With his new album “Darkest Before Dawn” hitting shelves across the country last Friday (Dec 18) we had the pleasure of having Pusha T into the Sway in the Morning studios to speak on his rise to the top, his new role as President of G.O.O.D. Music as well as a live break down his lyrics and a killer freestyle.
From starting Play Clothes almost 8 years ago to reigning on top of one of the greatest labels in the game currently, Pusha T stresses the importance of being a self-contained artist. With the power to sign new talent as he pleases we hear the qualities that Pusha looks for (take notes kids).
Filled with hits, “Darkest Before Dawn” features some incredible talent such as Diddy and Jill Scott. Pusha T speaks on these collaborations, the meaning behind “Crutches, Crosses, Caskets,” “M.F.T.R.,” and “Sunshine” all before he kills a live freestyle.

Pusha T is one of those rappers that no matter how much time you gave me to write a verse, I could never come up with verses more intricate, more double entendres with better rhyme schemes. He and Kendrick are one of the few currently active rappers that I could never replicate with all the time in the world. Others are probably still much better than me but on a level where, with enough time, I could probably come close.
People DO NOT UNDERSTAND this. I could write an Eminem verse in an hour. I could never write a Pusha verse. One aspect of Pusha that is unique is that he draws from a language almost all his own (for mainstream artists that is-a SPECIFIC diction from a region and a lifestyle). I write poetry, and my years of writing has shown me that editing and excising unnecessary words is the most difficult part of great poetry. Pusha is THE BEST in the game at this. He pares his verses down to elemental form. Only ONLY the needed words. Genius.
Pusha T is underrated af. His album is definitely one of the best projects dropped this year. #KingPush

PUSHA T is consistent! His live show, no dancers, just him, a mic, & Dj, going song 2 song! 🔥 I have listened to, It's Almost Dry 12 times, I listened to Kendrick once - don't get me wrong KL's project is a masterpiece! However Push, the Project is a tighter presentation, the sequencing is everything, I see pictures, it's like a movie, I've seen Enter The Dragon 15 times...Feel me! My next project will be tight - inspired by Everything Push - Kanye & Pharrell - they knocked out the park! Just my opinion 🎶

Pusha T, Fabolous, Lupe put out so much consistent content and are too often understated....
J-Cole is walking in that line, but found a great balance in the culture and in pop (Lupe did as well...Grammy winner).
Kendrick...I hear people and he has momentous moments but he isn't quite there yet for me...creative - yup, thoughtful - yup, Hip-Hop - yup, but missing that magic head nod command...One of the best Kendrick moments in fact was the track he did with Pusha 'Nostalgia' ...cold cold track.

Fabolous can't make a great album but he's got great songs. Cole got his first great album with FHD but his other two were okay, another dude who makes great songs. Pusha T knows how to make great albums though. Kendrick is pretty consistent though
Josh Josh Listen to Street Dreams and FNTS all tell me Fab can't make a great album. That myth is there cause his singles were female hits, if people actually stopped sleeping and listened to the damn project instead of assumptions. Also, Lasers was an attempt to draw in more fans and Atlantic were telling him what to do. Fab is if not, the most consistent of them all. Drops something every year. You can't really say Kendrick is consistent, unless you mean on a project, TPAB failed as he went for lyrics instead of a balance in lyrics and good production for more ears

If you didn't grow up during the greats or choose to research them you can understand the appeal of even just a good interview. Hip Hop is completely esoteric so while you can learn to do anything there are levels of mastering the art form. It's much more than rap and flow and beats and image. The greatest artists emote these visceral concepts that ignite your intellect and stimulate nostalgia. They also bring you directly back to the origin of the culture and message even when they're just speaking.
As Sway asked for a good MC, i would say Freddie Gibbs is one oft the best MCs nowadays.
He can spit sick, raps hard and kills on stage. He performs live acapella like 4 songs without breathing and sick flow and everybody in the crowd is shoked. Ive never seen such a good MC live

Anyone who think sway is biased on his opinion can sick a dik. He just states facts cuz pusha been consistent since day 1 n never fell off. Kept it real on the legal side of the music business without sacrificing the quality if his music. He stuck to his roots and ran the lane he chose to take. Either it's cause I'm twenty and not twelve or it's just that these guys don't appear to be anything more than the average human being. They don't have that feature that sets them apart anymore, sort of like superheroes. Social media gets some of the blame for that. It makes these artists seem normal. It's fucked up.
