Sentosa is a foreigners’ enclave designed by government for good reasons. Those rich millionaires living their dream lifestyle in landed properties with boats docked behind it or luxury condos, enjoy the privacy without average singaporean getting green eyes with rage/jealousy.
I was once invited to such places for afternoon tea and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I thought I was out of Singapore!!
When I left in a taxi, I was a bit distressed by the feeling that I’m a 2nd- class citizens in my own country for no good reasons. As I chatted with the cab driver on my experience, he simply laughed that I should not be affected because I’m luckier than many other people all over the world.
Then I realised these foreigners in Sentosa are the elite of respective countries where they come home. Comparing myself to these Uber rich is kind of silly. I’m in my mid 50s, my 3-room flat in city-fringe area is fully paid, no mortgage or credit card/car loans to worry, my CPF & personal savings are sufficient for retirement in 3 years time. I count my blessing.
Their lifestyle is financed by the Company that hired them .
Yer agreed those are the top 0.1% of the world, not even Singapore. The founder of Facebook lives there. I’ve fallen into the comparison trap many times. I bring myself back by reminding myself how lucky I am.
Well said . I would like to add something . I worked many years in healthcare . When someone dies , there is not one thing they take with them. Not even the clothes on their back . With that said it must be great to have a luxurious life here on earth , without worrying about money . . One more thing : the greatest wealth you can have is your health . All the riches in the world mean nothing without it . ❤

I think he's after greatness, not happiness. To be at the level success where he is, his interest of accomplishment is much superior than of reaching simple happiness.

would be curious to know what the nationalities of these foreigners are that same to populate this small area in Singapore. My guess is the Russians? It is important that these foreigners aren't involved in the political system in Singapore otherwise it will be like America where the government and politicians are controlled by large corporations and the elites that serve themselves.

honestly somebody living in Sentosa cannot express any judgement about what living in Singapore is like. the 0.1% lives very well anywhere in the world.
SIN is just a place to spend their younger days.
I think the best indication that one is a "local" is when you intend to be buried there.
The bar to live, work, retire in Singapore is very high. Max won’t be interviewing any strugglers from Singapore, unless, of course, they are Singaporean.
And he probably doesn't know that just across the road from Robertson Quay, the Hdb flats at Jalan Kukoh is kind of like the ghetto in Singapore!
I would love to live personally in Singapore but unfortunately most people cannot afford to retire in Singapore. I was an expat for 2 years and loved it but had to return to Sydney and that’s expensive enough 🙏

Henry Ford started his first motor company at the age of 36. It failed. He started the company we know as the Ford Motor Company in 1903 at the age of 39.
Harlan Sanders had a whole series of businesses, some successful, some not, and started selling fried chicken at the age of 44, as a sideline to his petrol station business. He invented his deep-fried chicken made in a pressure cooker he had personally modified some time around 1940, when he was about 50, and made his first franchise deal when he was 52. This was just a franchise to sell chicken cooked to his method, not a restaurant. Expansion was rapid from 1955, when he was 65, and he sold the company when he was 73, albeit staying on as an employee with a responsibility for quality control and retaining ownership of the Canadian franchise.
I don't think 39 is that late to start a motor company. Ford had become an experienced car engineer, by then having personally designed and built several from scratch. Harlan Sanders was a late starter with the company that made his name, certainly, but he was a serial entrepreneur before then. I think he wound up starting his own businesses because he was too pig-headed to work for anyone else.
I don't dispute you can start a business later in life, I just don't think it's that unusual, because for many it's not until later in life that you get the confidence or experience to run one, or find yourself with no other option. Technology startups contradict that, of course.
Who provides 75% financing for random foreigners to buy say US properties? For 30 years fixed rates, no less? Something doesn't smell right.
You have Obviously never done it! Its called a First Mortgage over the Asset ... and in some cases 2nd Mortgage 🤑

Robertson Quay lol yeah that's very true. Overall singapore is multi culture but u also see pockets of different countries culture in places. The cross culture bit usually is driven by cross culture relationships (bfgf spouse etc) or by colleagues gathering after work.

Looked at Robertson Quay with Google maps and saw only about 25% Caucasian. But still a lot.
Singapore is the 1 country in the world Singapore govt is no1 n talented and knows how to take care of its citizens.
Singapore is a nice place to visit for a week but 6 million people crammed in a country( yes country) of just 280 sq miles gives me claustrophobia.
Not to mention heat ,humidity and exorbitant cost of average stuff.
And they do have an unconcious subtle hierarchy of races.Still colonial in mindset😊😊😊

No group of people has so many migrants as the Europeans. They have migrated in millions to all the places in the world.

@@boredscientist5756 Europeans have been migrating since 500 years. 250 million European origin migrants live in US. Add the migrants in Australia, Canada, Africa, Americas and you will find that more than 500 million European migrants exist.
Also, EU alone is not Europe. Europe has countries that are not part of EU. Add their population, then the total number of Europeans in Europe is around 700 million plus. While the migrant European population is 500 million plus.
And don't start with the lame logic that Canadians or Australians or etc. are not European origin migrants. Just by sticking an imaginary label, it doesn't change the fact that all of them migrated from Europe at some point of time.

The writer meant that Europeans are the biggest migrant group to other lands outside Europe from the past until today, not just at this exact point in time. The colonial past of many countries in Asia, Africa and all of the Americas is a testament to that.

Also, if you study the history of British occupation, we walked away a lot better than countries occupied by other colonies. Our leaders were also educated in UK, and built the country on UK legal and educational structure. I don't even want to think what would have happened to us if we were part of Malaysia.
It's super easy to hop on the "coloniser" train without understanding the context. Colonisation should be condemned, but back up your statement instead of a single word.
@@superlynnieSingapore was nothing but a transshipment hub when British ruled it. They brought "Coolies" from China and soldiers from India to manage it. They were doing noone a favor.
There was no Democracy, no human rights and no progress.
Singapore, as it is today, was built after independence from colonial rule. Its built on very strong work ethics within an asian culture ecosystem, which were created by the Singaporean leadership post independence. So colonial rule has no hand in it.
If Singapore was still under colonial rule, then your existence wouldn't have been much better than an animal. South Africa, under apartheid, is a great example of what colonial rule was really about.
Americans can be colonizer. White Americans to be specific. Though it is a term referred to colonial white americans. Agreed. it was changed and achieved its best state when it was released from the colonizing hands of the britihsh. It became a true, rich state under the prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, who really reshaped Singapore. The British were nothing more than selfish bastards that used Singapore to better and enrich the UK and the crown. It seems we have a colonizer fetishist among us. @@asmirann3636
