You know you're already a Singaporean at heart when you encountered something negative overseas and you thought "this would never happen in Singapore!"
The late Professor Ron Stevens (Leeds) once said that Singapore is very much Britain as it was in the 50s and 60s. When people had a sense of shame, dignity and work ethic. Having lived extensively in both countries, I can finally understand what he spoke about.
Privet! I have lived in Singapore for the past 16 years. married locally, got 2 kids. Love it here and I wouldnt trade it for anywhere else in the world :)
Ive heard about that man jumping on quay to save the dog story long time ago. So it was real and its him! Hahaha thats funny. This is a nice interview Max.
I guess wherever we are the family values and manners helps, if a country doesn't practice such values anymore it's hard to even ask for help in dire situation
I know i sounded bit blunt about this but American society is like society that full of spoiled kids that don't experiencing being educated with tough love enough because freedom overly spoiled them , imagine if America get a leader with Tiger parents with tough love approach , i'm sure its people might thinks its too strict or too authoritarian Singapore simply a successfull society from a humble fishing village to a prosperous glitzy because lead with a leader with tough love approach because they care to his people I'm Indonesian and i'm really disgusted with weakass Democrazy that makes politicians misuse their position in my country I would say when one society lack of order and corrupted one , its unwise to be given a democrazy because chances of risk to abusing power will getting greater Because Democrazy only reserved for stable and orderly society When i facing two choice about which a leader that i want , a leader that rules with iron fist but shows tough love because he deeply cares and the leader is clean , uncorrupt , strict , smart and visionary or the second type , the leader that doesn't way too strict , smart or visionary but corrupt and giving a guarantee of wide democrazy And i choose the leader with a tough love with qualitative dictatorship over the mediocre but the weak ass democrazy

Like your videos, but feel like your getting a very narrow view of the US interviewing native born white Americans who left for life in Asia. Over half of America is at least 3rd generation immigrants (grandparents, parents or they were foreign born), and Asians are the fastest growing minority in America. Interview this group and you’ll find a wildly differing view of life in Asia vs the US. Saying this as a first generation American living in Singapore last 2 years, who’s lived half his life in the US and other half all over (Asia, Europe, Africa)
Invest in land or real estate. Yes, people should do that over stocks or college funds. Furthermore your first property should not be your primary residence. In USA, wife left. Turned the house into a rehabilitation house. So I kept it and it generates money. In Korea, bought small appartment 60k. Rent that out to companies who place workers yearly. Then married a viet, built a house off money generated off first two properties in nha trang, Vietnam.
I am from India and I've lived and worked in both Singapore and the U.S. in term of safety, Singapore is much safer. In term of job opportunity and Goverment 's help for its citizens, U.S is much better. Even Plumbers can make $6000 a month . If you make under $2000 a month the government pay for your food ( food stamp) and healthcare cost. If you have any kind of disability the government pay for your house and food and healthcare plus $900 a month .if you are 65+ the goverment will pay for your house, food, healthcare and $900 a month.
And I wonder if these help from the government actually contribute to some who choose not to work ? In fact , I believe unemployment rate is high in the US and many would exaggerate their disability to receive help. It’s a drain on the economy.

The place where you were born is the safest place in your mindset, it matters how you feel. In Singapore, is the system (Law) that forces people to behave. If you don’t like this place i.e. foods, properties, or living standards. Please leave asap as this beautiful place is overcrowded with ‘Unauthorised Personnel’ imo.
I agree, go and spend some time overseas. Maybe you will like the culture outside of Sg. For this man here, he prefers the safety of Sg and would rather stay here. Whereas, Singaporeans want freedom. So they would rather migrate to other countries for that taste.
I do hope you leash your dog now , first that is required by law , also respect the fact that some people are afraid of dogs Nevertheless they are wonderful companions
You should check migration patterns from out of Singapore amongst Singaporean middle class professionals to Australia, the US etc .and the reasons given. Btw, I'm Asian American with connections in M'sia and S'pore. Singlish is also Malaysian English. Its a mixture of colonial English in British Malaya which included Singapore, Chinese, Malay and Tamil which are infused with colloquialisms and accents. It seems very artificial or pretentious to ignore this. I love the US, M'sia and S'pore and there are many like me . The media distorts the reality of people to people relations, and the quality of life. Asians do well in the United States according to Pew Research in terms of income, education, and quality of life. The most outstanding would be the ethnic Indians from India who are the richest and are the most educated at several standard deviations above other Asians according to Pew Research and official US Census Bureau data. They are also very strong in family values. As an example they control about 6 trillion US dollars of the US economy being around 1% of the US population and most of the US startups and also as CEOs; they're not just in the tech space. They are also very salient in the top US business school like Harvard, Wharton and so on. It's a wide and diverse world out there and we don't get stuck with very narrow viewpoints because people have vested interest with their clients or customers. Singapore may be challenged to maintain its asset pricing structure meaning cost of human capital and real estate. If we just open our eyes and see which neighborhood it's in and what and whom its surrounded by. Many countries in Asia can migrate to automated or AI driven routine processes both in the services industry and manufacturing. Higher value added in these is Singapore's traditional edge but by no means is it secured. High end design competencies in chips and tech entrepreneurship are lacking even in Singapore and that may be developed further in the United States which has also open migration paths for skilled professionals from around the world as well as is found in Australia. Indo Americans control USD 6 trillion in corporate America. Not bad for just 1.2% of the US population and being first generation Americans. Financial servIces USPs in Singapore can br challenged by the rise of other countries in the region with shifts in supply chains. The testimonies we're hearing are a linear extrapolation of the good run years from the 1970s in Singapore. The world is shifting and the rug is being pulled out from under our feet. fortune.com/2022/12/16/indians-taking-over-corporate-america-tech-layoffs-visas-ceos-companies-success-nitin-bajaj/
Exactly, no matter what he says, the US is still an extremely attractive place for Asians. Even this year, tens of thousands of Chinese risked their lives trying to cross the border illegal into the US. This guy is a rich white American so he's already at the top and he's choosing to live in a safest country. But for millions of Asians, the dream is to migrate to the US and climb the social ladder.
Better check your adaption to constant open burning/joss stick/joss paper smoke in Singapore, cigarette smokes in food court, hawkers. Singapore is still super weak in managing these issues
I know it’s a widely American thing but pls pls do leash your dog, if you really do love it. Not just for its own safety but for others. Also, Singapore is a multi cultural country, we have Muslim friends around that are sensitive to dogs (religious reasons)
Singapore is a land with 0 natural resources, I remember hearing this as a child that our only resource is our people. Which is why LKY focused on education and leveraged our geographical advantage, transitioning us into a place for regional investment and safety was a key factor in giving businesses this confidence. As much as some western countries would call our laws "too strict" or their favourite buzzword "lack of human rights" their companies still invest here knowing that it's safer.
I agree - foreigners buying up real estate will also end up making it difficult for local people, just as has happened in Hawai'i, where the man being interview has not surprisingly also lived.
Yes, tks to our govt we hve strict laws. We punish criminals not the victims we banned guns since independence, above all we uphold the death penalty for heinous crimes and drug trafficking. Thank u PAP !
Perspective. We know it’s safe in Singapore…there are costs involved, freedom, cost of living, choices, lack of entertainment etc. It is the same in most countries - both good and bad and also different for everyone’s unique circumstances. This gentleman entered Singapore probably at society’s higher end, he has lived in the US for many years prior. Of course he appreciates what Singapore provides him that the US cannot and of course it’s a pleasure living here - he can afford it and his mind is tuned in to the differences. The average Singaporean, while appreciative, probably doesn’t feel it’s that rosy. And just like him, there are many like him, in the opposite direction, preferring the US’s space, freedoms, rights etc, and they would probably enjoy it there….with the focus on what Singapore doesn’t provide and because they can afford to get to the US.
I don't think Singapore has family values just look at the fertility rate it's going to be less then 1 this year. Sure it's safe and has low taxes. He is right about American foreign policy through.

People who “ scold the government “ do Not necessarily mean that they don’t love Sg or the government. Perhaps they believe certain things should not be done a certain way or that certain things can be better. Criticism does not always equate to hate. It could actually be the opposite.

Just left Singapore. I find people don’t seem to be happy, can be arrogant. Retired Seniors are very unhappy as they are running out of retirement savings and being forced back to work. It’s a modern place but so what, feels like the chickens are coming home to roost after LKK’s success, give me Malaysia any day.
Singapore is meant for the affluent people. It’s the most expensive place on earth and it’s just going to get more and more expensive as time goes by. Imagine paying $100,000 US dollars for a Toyota or Honda car and you can only own and drive it for 10 years. Nowhere in the world would you see many elderly folks in their 70s and 80s still having to clean toilets and clear tables just to scrap by. Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, there is no free healthcare, no unemployment insurance, no welfare and no free education. This is the reality of Singapore under the facade as one of the richest countries in the world. It’s a shame.
Well , if cars are cheap in Sg , it would probably take 3 hours to drive from Ang Mo Kio to Toa Payoh. Leave home 3 hours earlier for work daily due to traffic jam. Do we want that ? Is it even necessary to own a car in Sg ?
High-skilled and educated workers in Sinkapore are in demand and are paid a premium, whereas low-skilled workers have stagnating incomes. The wealth is unevenly distributed, i.e., the rich are but a minority. It sure sucks to be poor in Sinkapore.

"Rents now, although they're high, they're still not maybe where it should be for people to see proper rental yields". And this is exactly why I think investing in property in Singapore makes no sense especially with such high entry prices.
Rental yields are fine for those long time players who are already in the game. For those seeking immediate high yields or early flipping at high capital gains, then think about it.

Smart guy, hope malaysia will have more people like him.
While at Indonesia is pretty dangerous at some places, but seems like USA is worsening. Scary place.
Thank you for this interview, Mr. Max 🙏🏽🙇🏻♀️

Privet! I have lived in Singapore for the past 16 years. married locally, got 2 kids. Love it here and I wouldnt trade it for anywhere else in the world :)
I can understand why he lives in Singapore. Hawaii is a small village compared to Singapore but has similar culture and safety.
Ive heard about that man jumping on quay to save the dog story long time ago. So it was real and its him! Hahaha thats funny. This is a nice interview Max.
Haha nice one
Would be a dream to live there. Can the world have more city states like this?
I guess wherever we are the family values and manners helps, if a country doesn't practice such values anymore it's hard to even ask for help in dire situation
I know i sounded bit blunt about this but
American society is like society that full of spoiled kids that don't experiencing being educated with tough love enough because freedom overly spoiled them , imagine if America get a leader with Tiger parents with tough love approach , i'm sure its people might thinks its too strict or too authoritarian
Singapore simply a successfull society from a humble fishing village to a prosperous glitzy because lead with a leader with tough love approach because they care to his people
I'm Indonesian and i'm really disgusted with weakass Democrazy that makes politicians misuse their position in my country
I would say when one society lack of order and corrupted one , its unwise to be given a democrazy because chances of risk to abusing power will getting greater
Because Democrazy only reserved for stable and orderly society
When i facing two choice about which a leader that i want , a leader that rules with iron fist but shows tough love because he deeply cares and the leader is clean , uncorrupt , strict , smart and visionary or the second type , the leader that doesn't way too strict , smart or visionary but corrupt and giving a guarantee of wide democrazy
And i choose the leader with a tough love with qualitative dictatorship over the mediocre but the weak ass democrazy
My wife is from SG....but i have a hard time connecting with Singaporeans when i am there. They are polite but very closed and protective. I feel very safe in Singspore tho...
Ya unfortunately that’s the way we are, even to each other sometimes 😅 It takes a bit more effort for us to warm up haha 😂

As an Indonesian, I value safety the most when vacationing abroad. This is why I have strong reservation going to countries like France, Italy and lately the US. Closer cities like Tokyo, Hongkong, Singapore, Sydney , Melbourne, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are vastly safer with superior offering.
I see no need to exercise much safety caution there unlike homeless / drug-addicts / bandits - infested European and American cities.😁

I have heard about the "If you want to be a 10, hang out with 10s" line. But if you're not a 10 yet why would the 10s want to hang out with you?
Because 99% of people don’t even think who to spend time with. So if you make an effort you can surround yourself with people smarter then you.
@@MaxChernovI personally doubt it is true that there is no value in 10s hanging out with 3s and 5s. Just like I doubt there is no value in 5s hanging out with 3s and 1s. Otherwise 10s will only try to hang out with 15s. That's why mentors exist. To even out the equation you bring something to the table.
You can keep on believing it, no problem.
don't just surround yourself with 10s and then be a freeloader, show value that will make them want to keep you around.

It's known as milking the system. Muslims are notorious for this. Shameful way to live. Go back to India!
We are in trouble with all these welfare programs, freebies does not help!
And I wonder if these help from the government actually contribute to some who choose not to work ?
In fact , I believe unemployment rate is high in the US and many would exaggerate their disability to receive help. It’s a drain on the economy.
@@yangtzeling7468 , Exactly and new sickness call mental health, once upon a time it is call the struggle to better yourself for everyday living but now it is call mental health.

Which puts USA about half way down the list of all countries ranked for gun violence per capita. So what's your point?
If you live in america you feel boring, dizzy, headache and uncomfortable and unhealthy but if you go to asia countries like Singapore , thailand and malaysia you feel happy , healthy, eating health food nutrition and feel happy comfortable life not only that the people asia are polite and have good character they respect each other.
Singapore has family values and social friendliness? That’s a good one.
Why? You feeling lonely in singapore?
GOOD DECISION .... SMART MOVE .....
I agree, go and spend some time overseas. Maybe you will like the culture outside of Sg. For this man here, he prefers the safety of Sg and would rather stay here.
Whereas, Singaporeans want freedom. So they would rather migrate to other countries for that taste.
I do hope you leash your dog now , first that is required by law , also respect the fact that some people are afraid of dogs
Nevertheless they are wonderful companions

Ang MOH get respect from Singaporeans, especially the SPGs.
I don't think it makes any sense for foreigners to buy a property in Singapore.
I agree - foreigners buying up real estate will also end up making it difficult for local people, just as has happened in Hawai'i, where the man being interview has not surprisingly also lived.
I agree. They should all rent.

Singapore 🇸🇬 👏👏👏👏
Singapore has limited land and so investing in real estate at any time will bring increase in the future that is my opinion.
I don't think Singapore has family values just look at the fertility rate it's going to be less then 1 this year. Sure it's safe and has low taxes. He is right about American foreign policy through.
It abt cost of raising children.nothing to do with family values.japan and korea also the same.
