They're not there to become soldiers or cadets, they are there to learn discipline and to give more respect towards people, and most of the comments are people who think the U.K can't do a good enough job, where is their respect huh?. Besides, they could be a lot more strict off camera for all you know or perhaps most of the footage was filmed near the end, it did say by day 3 they were showing more respect. (Plus I personally think most people around my age should be in this anyways, it seems each new generation is less and less respectful than the previous one.)

As a teenager I joined the Army Cadet Force. I went on to serve in the Army with BAOR and in Northern Ireland. That was back in the 70's but the lessons learnt then are still relevant today
When that kid says 6 o clock in the morning i laughed so hard 😂im 18 and been wakin up at 5 in morning to go to work. I think these kids got off easy tbh. Especially since i heard the storys of my co workers who was in US army and some in marines to. But im sure these kids learned good life lessons. Everyone in my opinion should go through this stuff at least one time in their lives

I find it interesting how everyone is saying USMC is tougher ect. This is a one week program designed to give these 12 to 14 year olds a nudge in the right direction. Sure they could yell and beast the kids for a week and they wouldn't change once they got home. The infantry corporal explained it when he talked about fostering mutual respect. This program is not supposed to be tough, that isn't the point. Culturally it is different as well, New Zealanders (even the military) don't tend to yell as much as Americans because it is seen as a sign of insecurity (smallest dog barks the loudest). If you yelled the whole time at these kids they would just mentally shut off and do as they are told, when they get home and there is no more yelling their motivation to do what they have to do disappears.
Yelling in USMC isn't a display of toughness. It's psychological training for the craziness of the battlefield where people *are* yelling and screaming.
Kids need structure and discipline, not walls and bars, instead of sending them to Juvie immediately, they should be sent to a Boot Camp instead to learn the discipline, pride and respect of the military. locking them up won't solve anything, some might get scared straight but others won't and it's those others that we will lose unless we teach them self-value, unfortunately State budgets are not that great for schools so many might not bother with it. But then again I am not into politics, so I might be wrong. (but not about the discipline)

I am in a MCJROTC (Tx, USA) and I do this kind of work and training during pt days(physical training) and I went to two back to back USMC "little boot camps" (two one week courses). And I will agree that had I not joined MCJROTC then I would make worse grades and I would be overweight, not to mention I would have a low self esteem. But instead I'm confident, I'm in shape, and I'm doing something worthwhile
I saw a program where some teens refused to do anything and at the end the instructors gave up and sent them home. Having done my military service, its well known that it is possible to refuse and not break. I have seen it at the company commander just sent them home. Waste of time
So those kids only took 5 days to properly learn how to drill but it take new JROTC cadets a few months damn. and honestly that looks like fun id love to go there its like our JCLC but it looks to easy.

I did 26 years ago.I was in Juvenille Detention Home for 2 months when I was 12 years old.I joined Army JROTC in junior high through high school and became a Paratrooper after school.29 years later I never regreted it.I know people who went to school with me,now have felony convictions or still in prison.
Plus very professional and very discipline and would know how to turn a troubled Teen around before they head to Jail or Prison and we need more USMC DI's today at Bootcamps for troubled Teens!

those beds are shit, not done properly at all. if that was my drill sgt hed fuck up the bed and make you do it again... in 2.5 minutes, fail and you get the ''treatment''. and the treatment was a all day marching, runing up hill ( was stationed in our mountin regiment base peaks minimum of 800meters), push ups with full battle gear. i think i puked about 4 or 5 times the first time and ONLY time i fucked up anything xD
this doesn't seem to be giving them a real idea of what they are capable of. I went on a course called outward bound where they took me deep into the Superior national forest in Minnesota. It wouldn't seem that bad, but Minnesota is NOT a place that people were meant to see. It's a hellish environment of swarms of poisonous insects, many lakes in which you must canoe and then portage between, and all the while I definatley learned what I was capable of. :)
Punished with what? The DI yells "get your hands out of your pockets" and the kid might as well say "fuck you, I don't want to be here anyway." These tough love boot camps don't work, they never have and never will. When the kid is finished, he goes right back to the family/household/town where the problem started.
@ajaaniajaa They make it JUST hard enough to be somewhat of a challenge, but easy enough for the kids to think they can actually survive the real thing. So afterwards they go sign up for the Marine Corps., not knowing that what they recently when through was just a way, way watered down version of what they're really getting themselves into.
What can you teach unruly teens in 5 days? They will be back too there old self in a day or two. Give them e year and they might be able too change there life. After 11 month in the army i learned alot but a few years after only a few things are left. 5 days come on xD it's like a candy shop.
I think this documentary is relevant in 2023 given plans by the opposition National Party to introduce young offender military academies if elected into government. These academies will last a year and will be for young offenders who have committed at least two serious offenses like robberies, assault and ram raids.
This looks like a cake walk to me. At the military school that I went to as a kid, we were beaten, dragged down the hall by the hair, and body slammed on the floor on a regular basis. It was so bad, that kids were attempting suicide. I saw kids get teeth knocked out, broken bones, and chocked until they passed out. Do a google search on Lyman Ward Military Academy abuse. And what's worse is that none of it gets investigated. It all gets covered-up, and the staff never goes to jail.
It's funny to see these kids start off cocky and ridiculous then they quickly become obedient or cry! Pacific Quest is a wilderness therapy camp and they helped my troubled son. A boot camp for teens is a good answer to their horrible attitude.
@sharonsunshine1 make her go to devil pups in san diego camp pendleton! it shows dicepline, motivation and so much more they will come back a brand new person! it is a ten day camp, no cost. it is hard but it gets easier once you know what to do...

I'm bloody sick of damn idiots talking about how this should be the USMC or how they should see a USMC drill instructor and how laid back the program is. Are you even comprehending what the point of this program is? The whole damn idea is to get teens who are basically lost in their lives to see purpose, see respect and become good citizens. Putting them in a USMC enviroment isn't gonna do damn crap outside of breaking them down and not having anything to build them up on. Why do people seem to worship the USMC style of training as this godlike unfaltering holy grail, when in reality it would never work on people like this?!
What you need to remember is that people who join the USMC WANT to be there, the whole idea is to split up the dreamers the doers. With a program that has essiently conscripted teenagers you are not gonna get crap out of that they need authorative figures, lessons and disipline. Not USMC style bullshit... FFS call it a daycare or summer camp or you want at the end of the day these teenagers came out better thanks to it

You can say that again and Public Schools need this program too replace JROTC because JROTC is training Cadet's into joining the Military but Military Bootcamp for troubled Teens is reforming them into good people before they head down to Jail or Prison here and they need Bootcamps in every Public School today!

I did 26 years ago.I was in Juvenille Detention Home for 2 months when I was 12 years old.I joined Army JROTC in junior high through high school and became a Paratrooper after school.29 years later I never regreted it.I know people who went to school with me,now have felony convictions or still in prison.

This was basically just my home life... How the hell is this supposed to be "scary"? United States Marine Corps Drill Instructors... THOSE are scary! You think they actually might kill you, you think they might let you die, and you think they WANT you to die... I couldn't thank my DIs enough though, helped me become the man I am today.
By the way its a discipline program trying to get them to straighten up, not train them to become killers. Stop trying to one-up children, you "big bad marine".

To all of you clowns saying "Go meet a USMC DI" first of all i garuntee at least 70% of you have never served in any branch of any military. Second of all USMC DI's have an objective which is to train, indoctrinate and build marines to FIGHT. You people seem to be forgetting that this training establishment is for Children and teenagers who need a bit of stern guidance, not for adults who enlist to fight for and defend their country.
How much guidance can a teenager still in school recieve from 3 DI's simultaneously yelling at him/her? That is a tool Military training establishments use to prepare the recruit for the stresses of combat but would be ineffective to achieve the outcome of turning some kids life around who just needs a bit of direction.

those beds are shit, not done properly at all. if that was my drill sgt hed fuck up the bed and make you do it again... in 2.5 minutes, fail and you get the ''treatment''. and the treatment was a all day marching, runing up hill ( was stationed in our mountin regiment base peaks minimum of 800meters), push ups with full battle gear. i think i puked about 4 or 5 times the first time and ONLY time i fucked up anything xD
this doesn't seem to be giving them a real idea of what they are capable of. I went on a course called outward bound where they took me deep into the Superior national forest in Minnesota. It wouldn't seem that bad, but Minnesota is NOT a place that people were meant to see. It's a hellish environment of swarms of poisonous insects, many lakes in which you must canoe and then portage between, and all the while I definatley learned what I was capable of. :)

These tough love boot camps don't work, they never have and never will. When the kid is finished, he goes right back to the family/household/town where the problem started.
@ajaaniajaa They make it JUST hard enough to be somewhat of a challenge, but easy enough for the kids to think they can actually survive the real thing. So afterwards they go sign up for the Marine Corps., not knowing that what they recently when through was just a way, way watered down version of what they're really getting themselves into.
What can you teach unruly teens in 5 days? They will be back too there old self in a day or two. Give them e year and they might be able too change there life. After 11 month in the army i learned alot but a few years after only a few things are left. 5 days come on xD it's like a candy shop.
Wish these bad Students would face a USMC DI because these USMC DI's would reform them more better then any other Military System out there!
I think this documentary is relevant in 2023 given plans by the opposition National Party to introduce young offender military academies if elected into government. These academies will last a year and will be for young offenders who have committed at least two serious offenses like robberies, assault and ram raids.

This looks like a cake walk to me. At the military school that I went to as a kid, we were beaten, dragged down the hall by the hair, and body slammed on the floor on a regular basis. It was so bad, that kids were attempting suicide. I saw kids get teeth knocked out, broken bones, and chocked until they passed out. Do a google search on Lyman Ward Military Academy abuse. And what's worse is that none of it gets investigated. It all gets covered-up, and the staff never goes to jail.
It's funny to see these kids start off cocky and ridiculous then they quickly become obedient or cry! Pacific Quest is a wilderness therapy camp and they helped my troubled son. A boot camp for teens is a good answer to their horrible attitude.
@sharonsunshine1 make her go to devil pups in san diego camp pendleton! it shows dicepline, motivation and so much more they will come back a brand new person! it is a ten day camp, no cost. it is hard but it gets easier once you know what to do...
@jakeisagamer They don't ever show their "full disciplinary treatment" on these videos. Even US air force boot camp videos on here are toned down for the cameras. I know because I was in that basic training and It was nowhere near that easy lol
