Rookie Off-Roading... On a £14k Ducati Desert X | FEATURE

  • The Ducati Desert X has been celebrated since its launch for its great looks and even greater ability to ride off-road. Ducati claims that 80% of its development was done off-road, and yet only 10% of customers purchasing the bike will take it into anything more than a muddy car park.
Ducati also celebrates the ease and simplicity of off-roading thanks to the Desert X's comprehensive design and engineering.
For this review, John Marcar decided he wanted to have a go at off-road riding... for the first time (ever). A stupid idea? Perhaps.

Actually ,out of the dozens of Desert X videos, this is one of the best. This is how most of us newbies would be riding as first time off roaders on the Desert X

Awesome stuff! Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback too. We hope it's inspired a few riders to have a go at off-roading too.

I agree. I have lots of dirtbike seat time and street bike seat time. I don't have street bike on dirt seat time.

It doesn't use the engine from the Panigale V2. It uses the 950 engine, actually its the 937cc Desmodromic 11° Testastretta engine from the Hypermotard, the 950 Supersports and the Monster...

Yes, well spotted! This is a mistake on our part. Thanks for watching!

The Desert X doesn't have the engine of the Panigale V2, obviously - it uses the L-twin unit of the Monster.

Well spotted - this is our mistake. It's the 11 degree as seen in the Multistrada V2

I've just ridden my Aprilia across Australia and back and now have a thing for Italian bikes and videos like this randomly popping up on my TH-cam feed point me in the direction of the Desert X

It's got to be worth a test ride at the very least, right?? ...right?? ;)

I’ve watched a lot of Dx videos and have one arriving soon. This is one of the best vids for us mere mortals.

Great video and entertaining. Mate, less than 10% will ride the bike off-road, that's disappointing, Starbucks and The English Rose Café and Tea Shop must be busy. I knocked out a tricky 56k's on mine through the mountains this morning. LOVE this bike, I downsized from an R1250 GS and have no regrets. Stepping out the rear in corners and wheelies coming out onto the straits, she can make mere mortals look like superhero's with the electronics and power control. However, Get rid of the STR's and go with OZ tractionator GPS's in off-road orientation.

Amazing (and slightly depressing) isn't it? It's at risk of being the Defender of the bike world. So glad to see you're enjoying yours! - John

Brilliant video! Really well ridden, and I hope you’ve got the off road bug! Can heartily recommend the Dave Thorpe Honda school in Exmoor.

Thanks Paul, rest assured the price was correct at the time of production. As we're sure you can appreciate, prices can change and fluctuate constantly as per dealership demand and the manufacturers RRP.

Lose the rubbers off the foot pegs, change the useless pirelli str tyres for more offroad tyres, stiffen up the suspension to suit your weight as its way to soft for offroad riding , fit crash bars ,turn off the abs and traction control and you good to go, 99 percent of ducati owners own ducatis as a accessorie to look nice in the garage and talk the talk at local bike meets and Starbucks, the 1 percent who use them on proper offroad trails have other bikes that go offroad all the time and don't go to Starbucks or bike meets 😂😂

But why turn off the traction control ? To sound like a pro ? Even rally riders use it to not destroy their tires too quickly - and moreover in DX you have so many levels of it - for example level 1 or 2 give so many space to slide

    • @Rust_valley_adventures
      @Rust_valley_adventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@dareksikorski4587 if you don't know the answer, then you fall in to the category of you have no experience of riding offroad 🤣🤣 rally racers using traction control , go use traction control on a sand dune or on a muddy or gravel hill , you find out why traction control should be turned off 🤣

@@driven.videos 😂 so you walk as far as you ride on a trail you’ve never ridden ….? For christ sake don’t ever ride in Wales you’re be knackered in 10 minutes with that theory 🤦‍♀️

i believe the advice is to walk realy gnarly sections or river crossings first to "test the waters" 😂 nobody ever walks the entire trail^^
