My late grandmother (of Irish descent), before she died, called me to her, shook my hand with her two hands, said goodbye and sent me away.I was 11 years old.I didn't feel she was leaving. It was night, I was in bed and I heard cries/screems.I ran to see if she was okay, but the sounds didn't come from her room.I went out on the balcony and it sounded even louder there.I was like in ecstasy.I did not know what to feel - no sadness, no fear, no peace or joy.I was just listening to those moans.The next day, family friends came to our house to help my father with the funeral.She was gone.I felt a huge emptiness in my heart, I remember it as a physical pain.She was gone, and the cries were over ... Had a relative with a Irish background commit suicide , and the house had a sound of a terrible squeal that turned out to be a bad heating pump motor. Still, it made me remember the story of the banshee cry.

I feel like the life of a banshee is very tragic, she's always mourning and crying and no one is there to comfort her because they all blame her instead of realizing that she just announces what was destined to happen either way.
I've heard them cry in my dreams since i was little. 4 months after a family member would die. Only once did I see seen one, i thought it came for me but 4 months later my husband's grandfather passed.

I’m a rocker at heart: Van Halen, AC/DC, Montrose, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin… but I will always have a spot in my heart and music library for The Irish Rovers going back to my childhood. I well remember seeing them live in Sydney, Nova Scotia as a kid and on CBC all the time. They’re a Christmas tradition on my playlist and they bring it just as hard as any of my beloved rock bands. Hats off to the Rovers. Always had it. Always will.

As I listen to the song and create imagery in my mind, I can't help choke up and end up on the cusp crying. It's always when I hear the screech in my head.
I swear I've heard them in the swamps here in Canada. Shriek after shriek, but only a few nights in a row at max, then nothing for some time. There is nothing in these parts that sound like that. I've lived in this swamp for over 30 years. Freaks me out everytime.
Thanks for this song and cheers from Finland. They found Burkitt's lymphoma in my bowels at spring (was 34 years at that time) and now I have recovered from the all treatments and cancer is thing of the past for me after 2 control checks. One of the songs that gave me strength and at darkest moments I still thought atleast banshee warned us if all would end here. I have listened your music many years and I'm glad there is many years in future too :) Keep up good work lads! Edit: One and half year later they found incurable pancreatic cancer from my mother... Maybe it's not fair but I still feel lucky that she is still alive and I can help her with knowledge from my lymphoma and we can enjoy things for her last months or years. But after all this I still feel that banshee is not evil spirit and I'm glad that we still have time together after we assimilated the diagnose few months ago :)

Growing up in northern British Columbia in the 60s and 70s, CBC was the only tele we had...and of course, that meant The Irish Rovers on Saturday night...I grew to LOVE "The Unicorn"...being a true Canadian built with Irish bits and pieces, the music called to me... Some decades hence, and this is far removed from the fanciful tale of those silly unicorns...but I gotta say, I do love love the 'new' Irish Rovers sound...this song is amazing, even as it evokes the terrors of the tales me Da and Gran told me of those mythical folk that haunt the Emerald Isle....

I was an essential worker during the worst of it here in the USA... It was haunting to be out and about when the whole country was (basically) shut down.

Some decades hence, and this is far removed from the fanciful tale of those silly unicorns...but I gotta say, I do love love the 'new' Irish Rovers sound...this song is amazing, even as it evokes the terrors of the tales me Da and Gran told me of those mythical folk that haunt the Emerald Isle....

I remember coming home form the store and as we were putting up stuff and as i was going inside i heard a women screeching it scared me i went to see were it came from i seen nothing a couple of days later i heard a family friend died the same night idk what i heard it could have been a owl it sounded more human-like i don't really believe in banchees but if thats what i heard thats pretty scary i have always heard stories because of my Irish ancestry and being told stories from my family
