Customizing Costume Containers - Part 1 of 4

  • I customize my containers for each Star Wars costume I build, so that they look more like something from that universe. This tutorial teaches a lot of tips and tricks I have discovered over the years, as well as some pitfalls to avoid, and some simple fixes for when paint issues arise. People have asked for a tutorial on these, and I put this together over a few months. It was an hour and 45 minutes long, so I broke it up into four parts. This video is part 1.
    Part 1: Introduction, example cases, choosing your case.
    Part 2: Paint preparation, laying out greeblies and decals, and how to more permanently mount them. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...
    Part 3: Priming, painting, troubleshooting, and weathering. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...
    Part 4: Adding electronics, simple switch installed in a battery night light, basic circuits. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...

    These cases look so freaking cool. I will definitely try to match my crate to my Boba Fett costume. I think it deserves it. Will be watching this with very big interest. No electronics for me though, I guess. Hopefully, I can come up with something which still looks good. Maybe a little silhoutte of Slave 1 onto that crate?

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  ปีที่แล้ว

      No electronics? What about a simple small slot window with the red symbols like on his chest?

    • @SandraOrtmann1976
      @SandraOrtmann1976 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OddViking That is there, of course. Plus the usual stuff in the helmet. Could not have passed without that. No, I mean for my crate. I cannot stow a lot of electronics on the weathered Boba Fett post-Sarlacc. No pouches, just a tiny space for a flat cheat pocket under the leg flaps.

    Thanks for all the great info. I love your color schemes. Do you remember what green spray you used on the small Husky box? And the beige and orange on the water barrel?

    Have you tried vinyl upholstery dye as a base coat? I love it. It comes in an aerosol spray can.

      I show it briefly at the 24:25 mark, it is a 35 gallon water barrel, that was white with a red top. I cut out the door, and then cut down the height by about 7" to shorten it. Then the door was trimmed and went back on, and was taller than the opening for a nice overlap.

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBigcheese001 It was from a farm supply place, I found it while on a trip. The kind of place they have hundreds of water containers for livestock.

      @OddViking I'll definitely be trying your ideas. I just thought I'd putch that as I've used it on modified Nerf for years and haven't had color chip through yet.

    Great video! Another tip when making Star Wars is stay away from 45 degree angles. Too many bevels/chamfers make it look like it's trying to be sci-fi or toyish as opposed to looking like it's a real thing. This isn't Halo.
