I think that whoever (or whatever) narrated the script, selected the footage and did the on-screen numbers needs to do some checking! This video is a MESS! A de Havilland Buffalo doesn't take off in 50 feet, it takes 1200 feet to REACH 50 feet of altitude! While we're on the numbers, the last time I looked, 25,000 feet is not 276 metres for instance. And when illustrating an aircraft type, don't switch to completely different aircraft in the clips!
@@lagodifuoco313 Yes but it is still factually incorrect in many places. These weren't modifications, these aircraft are all FACTORY-BUILT TO BE STOL aircarft, , "excluding any modified ones", as it says at the start. Anyone who knows about this subject knows that. And sticking with the Buffalo, 41,000 lbs is not 1875kg, its over 18,000KG.
Am I concerned by the distance between my house and the airport? NO. I am concerned by the cost! I keep hearing about affordability but affordability is relative. If you are rich, then they are affordable. If you are poor like me, then buying an airplane is a pipe dream!
i had to go check that too , can clear a 50 ft tree after 1210 ft ,with a stall speed of 85 mph the acceleration to get into the air would be other worldly , lots of JTOl would do it ....
Not mentioned are the wind conditions have to be exactly right for this kind of performance. There has to be some wind to allow such low ground speeds but more importantly there can be no gusts for these very low wing loaded planes that are very sensitive to changes in wind in this configuration.
The presenter talks about power to weight ratio and "low drag" for STOL performance, but it's clear, even to me, that drag is not much of an issue at 25-35 knots?
Wow, I didn't know these planes existed. It's kinda amazing to see them go from a standing start to airborne in what seems like a couple of seconds in some instances. I'm guessing it must help a lot if they are facing into the wind?

Slepcev Storch STOL is a 3/4 replica of Fiesler Storch, Nazi German observation aircraft. It is probably used for historical re-enactments of war events. I doubt Serbian love Nazis.
It’s patterned after the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, 2,900 of which were produced in Germany prior to and during World War II. Used for observation, courier, and medevac purposes.
Please do better research! The Buffalo is an amazing aircraft but the takeoff and landing numbers you report are absurd! Common sense should have told you that. A a 40 thousand lbs airplane cannot land or takeoff in 50ft. Do better homework or quit .
3:28 No fixed wing aircraft that's capable of taking human passengers is capable of taking off in 50ft, dummies. The stat is "Take-off distance to 50 ft (15 m): 2,750 ft (838 m)." This means it can reach an altitude of 50ft in 2,750 ft of horizontal travel. Please get an editor.
Why not build a jetliner size stol capable of carrying 50 people? Think of the airport staff and maintenance costs you'd save. Not to mention takeoff fuel. Disliked this video for its careless attitude to accuracy of reporting.

Nah, it's an air show would have to be my guess. The planes at those often release some colourful/smoke-like substance for theatrical purposes

STOL is not all that is needed, you need to carry a load into short runways too.
I miss the Chinook
Any other Cleetus fans here and also see him in the vid ? I probably would have never seen this without being a fan of his.

Surprised you didn't mention the Sherpa Turbine !

Yes. The wind might lift the plane but you would simply float in place. An engine is required to move you forward.
