  • Early spring blooms are so wonderful after a long winter! It's not hard to have early blooms in the garden- the trick is to plant the right cold-loving seedlings in the fall.
We use frost cloth (remay) as extra insurance, but here in Zone 7a the following cutting garden plants have overwintered well for us without any remay or protection:
    Bupleurum
    Larkspur
    Nigella
    Agrostemma
    Bachelors Buttons
    Poppies
    Bells of Ireland
    Dianthus
    Feverfew
    Chamomile
    Scabiosa
    Snapdragons
    Yarrow
    Delphinium
    Foxglove
    Ranunculus
    Anemone

I have a sunflower that a deer took a taste and it it's now branching!! I'm in Florida zone 8b with microclimates of 9,10!!
I started my sunflowers in January!! Last year I planted them in February and they were the best ones the entire year!!!
I hope to a set up like you in years to come!!! I plan classes as well!! I have a micro farm but you have to start somewhere???
I was a Nurse for over twenty years and I can't do that anymore at my age but growing flowers and vegetables are the up and coming business NOW!! TFS your experience!! I would love to see more!! I will look at your website as well!!

Thank you for the list of the overwintering flowers. I am little bit late.. we have snow on the ground but not in the hoophouses.
