Kayaking Bristol Avon New Cut at Night - Tour of Historic Bridges from Shirehampton to Netham Lock

Four of us kayak the spring tide from Shirehampton Sailing Club Slipway up the River Avon, under the Clifton Suspension Bridge to Bristol. We took the rarely navigated Bristol New Cut, passing under 20 famous Bristol Bridges as the sun sets and a full moon rises. The mission was to paddle over the Netham Weir which can only be achieved on the high spring tide. As it turned out, we reached the weir and were able to rest for a moment at Netham Lock before riding the ebb tide and current back though Bristol and on to Shirehampton. This film documents this trip with specific commentary on the fascinating bridges that pass over the River Avon New Cut. This 28km evening paddle in October 2022 made for a fantastic evening’s adventure, with the great fortune of perfect weather conditions and by chance the four of us being free to take a few hours out.
