Divide and conquer. Substitute x=10+z and y=10-z into the second equation: (10+z)(10-z)=44. Rearrange to z^2=100-44=56.
Thus, z=±2√14, x=10+z=10±2√14, and y=10-z=10∓2√14.
And I was told we would never use the quadratic formula IRL
