Good morning, Mr. McGie. Another fine video. Thanks for taking us along as you do your everyday homestead maintenance and figuring solutions for those little problems that might seem impossible to most of us. Great job! ❤
You built a great spring water system! Yes Lexel Is great stuff. It takes a long time to dry, but it works well on metal roofs!. You will get it fine tuned soon!
I like watching you figure all this out. If you continue to have a problem with that sealer you might try sealer that's used for concrete pools, it's usually blue. It will create a liner that is fexable and forms a liner it doesn't tend tor crack. Also peroxide will kill bacteria, is natural and just turns into oxygen.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I probably saw it and thought it was another location that you and your sons were visiting. 🤷🏽 Pretty awesome to have a pond on your the farm; especially if it’s stocked.
We have plenty in southern New Zealand if you want some you can have ours, it comes with free Antarctic wind storms that snap tree branches and mid spring wet snow dumps of three inches after two weeks of 80 degrees F weather 😂😅 seriously, I'll shovel it your way😂😅
Great video 👍 👋 😃 Well it's gotta be done every so often if you're spring water catching you gotta clean the thing from time to time 😂 Give me twenty minutes of elbow grease to clean a water tank over bleach any day of the week, i clean the neighbors animal water troughs that way every three weeks in summer ( they can't , too busy so i make time to inspect them and clean if required because animals and honeybee's need decent water)and continuously flush them with fresh water and if i think it's holding algae ill dump a load of salt into the water and let that do its thing with a scrub before flushing the salt water out with a heap of fresh water to really dilute the salt down so its not harmful to anything else and the neighbors don't even have a fishpond, thier overflow goes into grass but don't have racoons either in southern New Zealand😂.
I would place me a long handled scrub brush in the spring house. If like in south Alabama where I am, mold will build up occasionally, especially in warm weather.
I would suggest a wastegate valve instead of the screw/faucet valve for your drain. It would be much less likely to clog and you could still adjust the outflow to maintain your water level, or just a standpipe to adjust the level.
You should be able to take a water sample over to the college for testing. I still need to take one over myself to see if I found a spring or just a spot where the creek goes through bank a little.
I didn’t say that, but I do see why you think that……. I made a general statement that sounds like it. I haven’t taken the temperature at the spring since the time I did it in the summer……… I need to do that!
Could a drain fitting with lip help seal the drain? Only thing is you would have to chip the around the drain so drain fitting will fit flush with floor.
Glad to see an update! Do you have a check valve in the pipe down close by the pump somewhere, or does the pump itself serve as a check valve? It occured to me you would lose a lot of water every time you stop the pump if the entire system would drain back to the pump. Such a long pipeline must hold a tremendous amount of water even if it’s only a 1” line. 4 gallons per 100’ according to Google. (Edit: never mind, you answered my question about a check valve in the video, I commented before I finished watching.😵💫)
I am a fan...what made me uneasy about your system and problem was not the leaks and your overflows and sedimet tanks are not the answert to safety and disease prevention. Watching animals gather in the "pond" and all the things they "leave" behind etc. is not dirt/sand...tthe danger are parasites, microbes etc.thgat can make your family very sick. Sio...micro-filtering and/or dissinfection would be the only other answer.
Dang McGie!!! I didn’t know you had a pond!!! Love it!! Great work, as always!!
Thanks! I’m so glad it’s working out!
That is one impressive set up! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks, it took a little bit of elbow grease!

learn from you every time I watch.lov from south alabama.
Thanks so much! I’m beyond thrilled that you enjoy the channel!!
Enjoyed the repair video Micah! I am still amazed by the root cellar / spring house. It is beautiful!
Thanks, it’s my favorite part of the farm!
Another very interesting video Thank you McGee 😊😊😊😊
I appreciate it!
Job well done , got to hand it to ya Mr. McGie you're the man with a plan & know how to handle his business that's why I love your video's👍
Thank you! I don’t have time or energy to mess around!😂😂😂😂

Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely keep those in mind!
Good morning. All this time never knew you had a pond. Glad you got your leaks fixed. 👍🏽
It’s interesting how certain aspects of the farm don’t make it in many of the videos! I know I’ve shown it a couple times, but that was way back!😂

@duncand5148 Remember when I shot that otter? That was in my pond. They ate most of my fish😅
@duncand5148 otter video! th-cam.com/video/kZLDPoslX_Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9kxr7TayNu6Afw3u
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures No. I missed that one. Going back looking for it now. I’m sure you ate him. 😂😂😂
I hope you have your leaks fixed. I'm hoping for more rain for both of us! My spring needs to recharge before freezing temperatures.
I am sure we will get a good soaking before too long! It would be extremely unusual to have a dry November!

😂😂😂😂
maybe consider putting a screen over the top of your water tank (maybe an old screen door) to keep most debris and bugs out of it?
It was getting pumped in front the spring.
Peroxide is the best thing as it doesn’t stay in the water as residual material. Works the best for cleaning.
You’re so right! I use it for a lot of things!

Thanks brother!

Doh! I didn't see the overflow drain in the back of the basin.😬
Looks like a good setup.
That’s ok! I always welcome advice!
Hopefully that will take care of it and you won't have anymore problems.
Have a good day Brother!
I'm hoping so too! Thanks!
Great videos!
Thank you!
I like your little boat there in the window. Do you sail it every day or just on the weekends? God bless the McGie's.
Just on the weekends!😂😂😂
Thanks for the video son👍
You betcha!
My stepdad had a setup like that the word flowed into a little Pond he had on his land and the water was always cold
Awesome!!!
That'sealer might have peeled off because it shrank from the cold water
I actually kinda know the feeling!!!

Yes indeed! That’s a very important part of the pump!
Why would you ever use bleach or chlorine when you have hydrogen peroxide?
True!

So what are your thoughts about this new system? Plastic tanks are definitely not my first choice.
