You missed a cool detail at the start, something I only just now noticed watching this video. Nate stumbling over his words when he introduces himself to Chloe is hinting at their existing relationship. His friends call him Nate, including Chloe, she calls him Nate all the way through the games. He would be used to her calling him that, but quickly catches himself and introduces himself as "Nathan" to make it seem like they don't know eachother...might be reading too much into it, just feels like thats why he says "Nate..um Nathan Drake"
You can also notice he’s about to greet her like a friend so she cuts him off to greet him like a stranger, which he picks up on and tries to mirror.
For anyone reading this now, yeah Nate and Chloe knew each other beforehand. There's an official comic online that covers Nate's history with both Harry and Chloe.
It's an awesome read and you can find it online. Along with another comic showing us Nate and Eddy Raja's backstory
The ending conversation between Elena and Nate actually was adlibbed. There’s a TH-cam channel that had Nolan North and Troy Baker playing games together and talking about behind the scenes stuff and funny moments while filming and having guests on. The channel was called Retro Replay I think it’s called Couch Soup now or something like that. They played through Uncharted 1 & 2. Last of Us as well.
Yeah, Retro Replay kinda died with Troy leaving imo. They had Nolan on for some time longer but I think he's also just appearing in a couple of videos every once in a while now instead.
Nate stutters when he meets Chloe because they already have ‘history’😂 Flynn just doesn’t know that so they act that way
I love the Uncharted franchise.
I think my main hindsight criticism is that the train sequence drags on a bit too long but I do get why it does that.
I think it’s because that sequence is where the developers put the most effort in, so it kinda earns that length
I’ve got in writing by Amy Hennig in my academic literature that Uncharted 2 is a story about trust and betrayal. It’s not the most complicated thing, but remember that at the time, story games still weren’t all that (hell, in Uncharted 1, Amy, Neil and Josh don’t even get any credit for their writing) and to this day, games generally don’t put their actors in top billing the way movies do.
So for Naughty Dog, if you think about it, this is a big step up and at the time, this was pretty high standard for gaming. I mean really, it’s like with graphics, shit that comes first to the scene really leaves a mark. Remember that Toy Story (full cg), came out before Zelda Ocarina of Time, we’d already seen high quality computer generated imagery, but OoT’s polygon graphics blew everyone’s minds! This game took an established action protagonist and while the narrative isn’t what I’d call tightly structured, it’s chock full of actual character moments and it especially pushes its protagonist Nathan Drake to a kind of (at the time) unprecedented dark place where he just wants to give up. Every wrong turn gets to him and to have that sort intense up and down, highs and lows, it’s no small thing. You look back and go ”Yeah obviously Uncharted 4 has a way better story than this”, but let’s take it for what it was at the time. If we don’t, then imagine how many old things we’re gonna need to go back and denounce. Uncharted 2 is a solid action adventure that danced on the boundaries of what video game storytelling was at the time.

Maybe it was just me, but I really liked the moment during the ending cutscene where it faded from a gravely wounded Elena to Nate honoring a grave, a technique that would make you think Elena died, only for her to show up and we realized Nate is honoring Schafer, a man he barely knew. It was kind of a cheap death fake out, but I liked it nonetheless.
4:13 - I'm always amazed at how many people think this moment is, as they put it, "out of character for Drake, considering how many people he has killed in the past and how many he will kill in the future games".
The thing is, Nate doesn't want to use guns there because they're just innocent museum guards doing their job. They're not evil henchmen who work for the big villain of the story.
In all of the Uncharted games (including Golden Abyss, which is a prequel to U1) he's fighting pirates or mercenaries who are actively trying to kill him, so it's justifiable that he retaliates with lethal force.

Easily the best Uncharted game. Everything from setting, characters, puzzles and story is so intriguing. I took this game for granted when I first played it back in 2011, but after getting the plat on the entire franchise, I am so happy that this is my favorite franchise
About the Drake's Concious. Drake just doesn't like harming civs, he even tells Sam "easy on the civilians" in Uncharted 4.
I’m honestly disappointed by how little people really get Nate’s character and just resort him to just “hurr hurr, he kill people”
I looked it up and some of the ending really was adlibbed. Nolan North says that they had filmed the ending and Amy Hennig jumped in like "you want to jump in there and try something?" And they did. Such nice details
That monster reveal scared the shit out of me the first time I played it. Had to take a break and walk around. So well done.
The part where Nathyan and Tenzin go explore that cave, while neither can understand what the other is saying, making them relly on non-verbal means of comunication is easly my favorite part in the entire game, and on of the best in the whole Uncharted series.
I just started replaying this game on hard mode, so glad the series is still getting reviewed.

Uncharted is definetly my favorite franchise. I love the carachters, and the feeling of it. Its like the feeling of watching a Pirates movie. Fun all the way. I like 4 the most becouse of sam and becouse it actually had a story
With me owning the PS4 trilogy and the other 2 games as well, I love the banter as well as the story. When they play off each other it brings a smile and a good laugh. Also the human parts as well as the sad parts just make the series a great one to play.
It's between the 2nd and the 4th for my favorites. My favorite scene from the second is the very end when Nate tells Elena clowns are more scary than her dying haha
Nothing brings me quite as much joy as when I get a notification from this channel. I know no matter what kind of day I'm having I'm in for a great video and it's guaranteed to make it better keep it up love your analysis. There almost always something you call attention to thar I may have missed that makes me want to go back and appreciate these games more on another playthrough.

Big thing with these games was that they were movies we could play. I mean it's like what Amy points out in TBBT about Raiders and Indy's relevance. There's not a lot of real narrative point or serious conflict to these. It's just about an exciting and entertaining show.
It has been over a decade since I played this game. I still remember that "There's a guy above you" line and it still cracks me up.
Edit: And the pool line, that as well. On the hotel roof, if you jump in the pool Nate wants to play Marco Polo.

I am happy to let this series go as it is. I don't need more because it was such a satisfying ending and knowing that I can just replay them and enjoy it all again is more than enough.
Yo, found your channel recently, and idk if you take game suggestions, but if your looking for a older game that’s a bit different from the other ones you have on here, then I highly suggest you check out Cave Story (3D or +, either is fine). It’s been a favorite game of mine since I was a kid, but it’s more or less a lesser known game.
Sales pitch for it: you play as a robot who lost his memory’s and is stuck on a floating island inhabited by the mimiga race, who are basically sentient and speaking rabbit creatures. The gameplay itself is a 2D Metroidvania with more focus on the story and platforming. You collect weapons and items across the island to help you escape, or do whatever other ending you want to do.
I have beaten the game before, but only the normal good ending. There is a true ending, but I could never get past the final boss of that one (if you want to go for it, play through the game through the normal good ending first as betting the true end is something easier to do with a walkthrough.). The main character, Quote, has also appeared along with another character I won’t mention due to story stuff in some fighting games somewhat recently, but outside of that Cave Story is mostly left behind.
Regardless on wether you make a video on it or not (I noticed you like to put more AAA FPS/TPS games on here, so it might not fit) I still highly suggest you play it on your own time. The music is good, the art is great (remake art or not, though not a fan of 3D) and the game itself is a blast, in more ways then one. Cave Story+ is on steam, and has the original 2D art and the remastered 2D art both available, and Cave Story 3D is somewhere, the Wii I think? Maybe somewhere else I don’t know but that also exists (you might be able to tell but I’m not much of a fan of the 3D remake).

This game holds a special place in my heart because Playstation blog held a contest back in 2009, and I had the luck to won it with another guy and be invited for a press conference with Arne Meyer (then Creative Director, today vice president) and Justin Richmond (Game Designer) a few weeks prior the release in an Hotel in Italy, I even had the chance to play the first levels and get live comments from them about some details of the game.
I remember it very well because I asked them if Uncharted 3 was already in developement (more than "In developement" I asked them if they alredy had ideas about a sequel or wanted to focus on something new) and they laughed at me because they couldn't say it loud, but they turned around the answer telling me that, after they played a lot with snow in U2, they wanted to take their time and play with sand instead, which ended being the element of choice of the next game.
My absolute favourite game ever, its just so well done, I thank you for doing it justice by properly reviewing its greatness

Uncharted is one of my all time fave series and one of the main reasons I bought a PS3 when I had been Xbox for a while. I went to a Sony store when U2 came out and they had the full game up for play and I sat and played the middle train mission and then some (almost to the end) and was blown away. I think as a standalone game it may not match up as much but as a step into the character of Drake and the crew it does much more for the bigger picture
Someone's probably already said it, but Nolan North has stated in his "Uncharted 2 Definitive Playthrough" That the ending scene with Nate and Elena is adlibbed. It was meant to be one of those "Cinematic camera pans up with music in the background moments" or at the very least, not that much dialogue.
But iirc, both of them got in the booth for some ADR and decided to go at it lol.
So hey, your headcanon is actually right, it's 100% just good chemistry from the VA's bouncing off of each other. (Now I'm not trying to promote something in your comments, but I'll just say if you want to see Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 played by the actors/actresses who starred in it, watch Retro Replay's Definitive Versions. 1 and 2 have Troy Baker as a cohost of the playthrough, but by 3, he left RR for creative differences. They did film a TLOU1 playthrough before he left however. Gives a lot of insight into the creative process of the games.)
funny thing about the mention of Lazaravic as a sleep paralysis demon, during the early version of the scene in the hotel room where Chloe climbs ontop of Nate, Chloe was replaced with Lazaravic as a gag. Also seriously if you want some fun Uncharted 1-3 BTS stories and such you should checkout the playthrough series Nolan North did on his youtube channel (with Troy Baker and guests like Amy Hennig, Emily Rose, Claudia Black and Graham McTavish and Richard McGonagle.)

Just the detail in this series was amazing. At some point in the series Nate would actually walk different when injured or touch the wall to maintain balance when exhausted for example. Not sure if it was in Among thives tho.
