The true difference I can find on ss teles is that the classic vibes are after the vintage original image and sound should you let the price drops a few things in favor of them!! So I will buy a cv 50's white blonde tele which I really like in order to put it side buy side to my 2011 MIM ss tele and see !!

    • @rivulus
      @rivulus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, same for the strat. The standard is the cheapest squier with decent pickups and standard dimensions. In the case of the strat it even has a steel sustain block and modern two point tremolo. Small point about the tuners: they have the fender style with the two locator pins but the spacing is different so you need to drill or enlarge the locator holes when upgrading to fender tuners. Which is a shame since you can get great deals on fender branded locking tuners.

    Best of both worlds. As a lefty, I got the 50’s Classic Vibe for the AlNiCo 3 bridge pickup. Then I replaced the stock pots with reverse audio minis, added two holes and two 1meg pots to the control plate with chrome knobs; then wired them to a Novak Wide Range Humbucker in the neck. The only problem is that I have to used a special padded strap due to a severe back injury that occurred after I got it.

I picked up an Affinity Telecaster to see if I like that style of guitar, which I actually do enjoy now. Mine has the Butterscotch Blonde finish. It's been sitting still for a few months because I've been practicing on my acoustic. Anyway, I picked it up two nights ago, plugged it in, and played. It was still in tune and ready to go. My more expensive guitars all needed to be tuned. Not this one. Now I'm thinking I just might want a U.S. made Telecaster. I love them.

Changed the pick ups with vintage broadcaster pickup set from seymour Duncan(had to remove some finsh from the bridge cavity. Took 5 minutes with 60 grit sand paper.)replaced the pots and 3 way switch with a Emerson prewired 250 pot set and chaged the bridge and drilled holes to made it a thru body and last i sheilded the cavities. I bought a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Telecaster with a double bound 3 tone sunburst body with a 9.25 radius rosewood fret board c shaped maple neck. I got it for $350.00 in 2020. It was a couple of years old when I bought it, but it was in pristine condition. No finish dents or scratches and the frets weren't worn at all. I wondered if was going to be a heavy guitar when I first played it at the store, but it wasn't compared to my Les Paul Junior. It plays great and sounds like a Tele should.

Locking tuners, v mod pickups, a fat 50s strat middle pickup, f branded bigsby, 5 way switch, tone saver, .05mfd oil over paper tone cap, 250k low friction pots, extra heavy knurled chrome dome knobs, all of the chrome hardware has been relic'd, and the nashville tele white pearloid pickguard, with earnie ball strap locks. Fun fact I accidentally drilled through the body during a bridge pillar install and decided to cover the hole with a chrome metal fender logo and it just happens to be the best guard ever against belt buckles, and looks super custom to boot. Kept the squier body. But replaced the backplate with a Corona california plate. Will get a custom body made soon. And she rides with D'Addario XT strings in the .010's. Classic vibe anything are all amazing. I have a 50s, 60s bound body (early one have rosewood instead of Indian l.) And a 60s thinline. I'm still not done as my next guitar will be a 70s deluxe. I wasn't but Squier turned me into a tele guy.

    Could you please possibly do a video explaining the difference between filtertron style pickups and humbucker size filtertron style pickups? Like your video on the difference between p90s and humbucker size p90s. Because I've been looking into buying something like a les Paul or SG copy and putting humbucker size filtertrons in them to get a sort of cheap method of getting Pete Townshends amazing tone on Who's Next, when he used that big orange gretsch. Nothing beats that tone for power chords. An alternative I was considering was getting that Harley Benton tele loaded with filtertron style pickups in the actual correct size and replacing them with high quality filtertrons from seymour duncan or the Creamery or something. But I was thinking the combo of a mahogany guitar with the bright filtertrons would be better than the bright sounding wood on the tele, the big hollowbody gretsch works well with the filtertrons by being a combo of mellow wood and the hollowness of it with the bright pickups, like the combo of mahogany and filtertrons would be

    The newest 2021 Affinity recently released has the wider 42mm nut width instead of the previous 40mm one

  • @paulievee8830
    @paulievee8830 ปีที่แล้ว

    And now that has changed. The affinity that you speak of had a neck with no skunk stripe very very thin and sleek and with the 40 mm knot. I have a guess medium to large hands and wasn't really able to play chords on it and didn't really hold much stock in it I figured I'd play with it for a while and then get something different but I noticed when I jammed with friends I would just let them play rhythm and when I came in with my lead having this super slim 40 mm nut I was able to play leads I never thought I had in me! Great guitar from practicing scales. The frets were all tapered at the ends, not rolled but the way an affinity does their frets I don't ever see mentioned. They're not rolled they're not files they just kind of slope down to nothing they never protrude past the edge. Why this point is never brought up I will never know. Well I thought I would get myself a classic vibe 50 series so I would at least own the real thing and when I was ready to play and had learned everything I needed to learn I would have the guitar already. Well I did bring it for a setup and in order to get the string height action that I want the strings would actually have to be hitting the pickups. I would love to show you some photos if I have them but it turned into a real nightmare if a guitar and it still plays and sound excellent

    From Leo: Bought an Affinity Telecaster as a back up when I knew my Fender Tele was going to be down for a while for fret replacement. I was surprised how good it actually is, and like the 6 saddle bridge. I add 4way switching to all my telecasters. Other than that mod, it is stock. I do not feel it is inferior to the Fender. Same with a Classic Vibe Strat, I like it as much as the Fender. We live in an amazing time. As long as you stay away from the very cheapest guitars, almost nothing on the market is unplayable crap.

    • @barbmelle3136
      @barbmelle3136 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Steve From Leo: I am sure that you are right. Who is to say that one alloy sounds better than another? However, an instrument is not regulated by a chemists analysis nor by a spec sheet. I have been buying and selling since my 1st Gibson in 1971. Brand names and spec sheets mean nothing to me. What I judge an instrument by is 1) is it enjoyable to play? 2) can I get my sound out of it? 3) It does not hurt if it is pleasing to my eye either. If it does not meet that criteria, who cares what some spec sheet says? Different is not the same as wrong.

    I have two of the Bullet Tele's Dylan and two of the Contemporary Tele's:
    Bullet Tele's
    FSR Sparkly Red Tele
    FSR Lake Placid Blue Tele
    Contemporary Tele's
    Metallic Red HH (bought new)
    Metallic Black HH (bought used, less than a year old in immaculate condition and less than half the new price)
    As you say the FSR Bullet Tele's are a great modding platform, I've done a lot to the Sparkly Red Tele, and just minor mods on the LPB Tele, and swapped the tuners for locking tuners on both Contemporary Tele's, and the saddles for high mass stainless steel on both as well.
    However, not sure about what pickups will be best for them, as you say they're not the greatest and are pretty much 'meh' till the gain is cranked way up high. So what pickups would you recommend for the Contemporary's Dylan?

      Hey Dylan, great video! There's an Affinity that is string-through, though. The ones that came in the starter pack with the little amp are marked as Affinity guitars with 22 frets and the string-through body. The regular Affinity is a top loader. Maybe that's where the confusion is for Fender? Idk

    I had a luthier friend of mine mod a strat style body to have humbucker bridge, tele bridge (middle position), and tele neck all wired to be independent (I can use only one or all simultaneously) I love the sound of each pickup by themselves, and the neck/ humbucker, or neck middle together, the bridge/ middle is kind of out of phase and obviously the same issue arises when all three are on at once. Is there a way to allow all of these pickups to work together in every position?
