The place is so special anyway but to find Michael the first interred is mind blowing . What are the chances you find him and the beautiful gate entrance even if you were looking. Then to look at the thousands of graves and realise they were all put there after Michael was it's so hard to get your head around . Brilliantly done, heart touching and thank you so much for taking us with you x
Thanks Caron, I don't think anyone could find him if they tried to, I have to say I feel blessed to have paid my respects to this dear child. I had such a warm feeling after I left knowing he is there and we found him.
I wonder how much a lot of these grave statues, tombs, headstones cost back then? They probably be really expensive now days! It’s a beautiful cemetery! So much history with the years of the people laid to rest there.
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Sue my great grandparents' grave in Deansgrange has a life-size statue of the Blessed Virgin standing on a triple plinth a bit like a wedding cake. There is a border round the plot. It's all made of white Italian marble. The stonemason told me last week that today it would cost between 60 to 70 thousand Euro. Doesn't that put some of those magnificent Glasnevin monuments in perspective?
Hi Sue, what an amazing cemetery, so beautiful! My favorite memorial is of the 2 children looking up at Ren James Fay, the children look real! I also watched Rod Stewart on TH-cam singing the song about Grace, never heard this song before, and it brought tears to my eyes, he did a great job! Very emotional 😢 Thanks Sue, great video!
Thanks so much Becky for listening to his song, listen to the Dubliners version, proper Irish group, that will give you shivers, I played Rods version because for a man whos not irish, I thought how wonderful he cares for the Irish war and what happened so much etc and of course his interview too, yes the Reverend was a guardian of an orphanage, hence the children at his feet x x
Rods version is amazing but the Dubliners just have that sadness to it, yes it makes me very sad hearing it, I'm not one for rebel songs but this is of love and loss

It sure is an amazing place, I always come away full of emotions, proud to be Irish after visiting the political graves, sad when reading those who passed too young and amazed by the magnificent monuments ❤️🇮🇪
What a beautiful cemetery. I especially loved the angel statues and how you found Michael and the first headstone. It reminds me a bit of Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah Georgia. @@SerenitySueGraveyards they always close the good ones . thanks to vandals :( the rumour is Glasnevin is haunted by a loyal dog that sadly starved to death as he wouldn't leave his owners grave
Sue, I one asked GV if he knew what Glasnevin was named after. I thought possibly a person, something like that. I started researching, this is what I found: Glasnevin takes its name from the original early Irish Glais Noeden. Glais usually means boundary stream, and Naíon can mean infants or fount. In this case it is believed the name came from a "Fount Stream" that ran through the monastic settlement here.
Wow.....never visited Glasnevin cemetery... hopefully some day.The sculptures are very beautiful, especially the ones of the 1800s & early 1900s.....there're unreal.
