- Glasnevin Cemetery is home to an estimated 1.5 million burials and holds the graves of some of the most significant figures in Irish history. These range from the legendary Irish novelist Brendan Behan, to Éamon de Valera, former president of Ireland. Perhaps the most visited gravesite is that of Michael Collins, the 20th Century revolutionary and politician who fought for Irish independence.

The cemetery is also home to O’Connell Tower, the largest round tower in Ireland, which contains the remains of the 19th-century Irish political leader Daniel O’Connell. He was known as ‘The Liberator,” and founded the Catholic Association. He was also known for championing Catholic liberation throughout the British empire.

I like the way you and Sue look into the crypt all while being very respectful. I've always been curious about what they look like inside.
Thanks kimo we appreciate the support 🙏

Great tour Grave! The details in the monuments amaze me! The histories fascinate me! The condition of those coffins are great for 100 years old. Congratulations on 12k subs👏🏻👍🏻💕
Thanks liz ❤️
I could listen to your voice all day, it’s bloody lovely ❤️
😊 thanks
Absolutely stunning cemetery. Incredibly well kept. I did not know they actually had towers where they watched over the deceased to protect from grave robbers. Very interesting history.
Had to watch replay tied up with work.
No problem Susan
I'm watching but not able to join the premiere this evening, this was truly fascinating to listen and watch, some incredible graves you've seen, all the memorabilia inside the graves are so heart-warming, this was really beautiful to watch, well done GV!!!

Great stone work
MERCI pour la Ballade😉🔬🍀🎬🙏
👍
🐹😉😂
Brilliant video to see . The war memorial with the name Abbott on it but said he served as Costello , I wonder if that was an attempt at a joke when he signed up ? Didn't expect to see all the football memorabilia in such an old vault. So many graves with rich history and stories to tell . You and Serenity Sue do them proud so they're not forgotten. Thank you so much xx
Thanks Caron ya that vault was like a bedroom with all the flags and jerseys
I wasn't being disrespectful but boys did fight under different names to stop the chances of them being found to be underage. Costello seems to be a good name to fight under ,it was half of the comedy duo Abbott and Costello so not a million miles away from his real name and everyone thought it was going to be a war that was over in a few months so spirits were high . Interesting to find it on a war memorial x
Enjoy this video and thank you so much for sharing all those beautiful monuments. Have a great day.
Thank you! You too!
What a little beauty Amber is RIP angel 😇 💔
The homeless, hungry and sick, without resources, in any country, is a truly saddening thing. What a lot of folks don't realize that there, but for the grace of God, goes ALL of us.
But, on a lighter note, at least the couple weren't pestered by noisy neighbors-I will go to my room now...
It's a big problem here and all over the world unfortunately 💔
I agree with you...people aren't being disrespectful to wherever they end up, it is the trash criminals that infiltrate govt positions and do damage to countries. I never thought I would be seeing what I'm seeing in America
Awesome! The ones with the helmets were great! Love this place❤️
Thank you 🤗
Great tour! Thanks for giving us a look into some of the vaults! That was a real treat!
Your very welcome William glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Loved it, and the history you shared.

Thanks for watching x
lovely to see a happy looking mausaleum/vault, great tour
Thanks Tom hope you are well
@@GraveVisitations im good thanks, hope all is well with you ?.
Love the cremation area and I love the old photos on them too! How wonderful the children put a wedding picture on the one!! The war memorial is wonderful; reminds me a wee bit of Arlington walls of names of the fallen… I actually cried when visiting the Vietnam memorial; was so very overwhelming to see. Also funny how they used to steal bodies to sell to science and now we donate them! Plan to donate my body to science. Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful video & a beautiful place of rest
The insides of the Vaults was so moving to see
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
Our pleasure!
Beautiful laying the housekeeper to rest with them .I don't think many would do thatx
Nice Gesture
loved this explore GV , I love the old black and white photos too and think they look like film stars , loved the peek in the crypts , I'm always amazed at the great condition of those old coffins ⚰ and i don't blame the poor old homeless couple sleeping in that vault , it's shelter for when it's cold and the dead can't harm you , this was a fantastic video ❤
Thanks Julia it was a beautiful location to film and full of history. I hope the couple got sorted out afterwards
@@GraveVisitations yes it's sad to see homeless people we have them here too 😢

You would love it 👍 super place
Just gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video
Thanks for the visit
I must visit here sometime it looks an amazing place. I was surprised to see so many cremations as I know most people are buried in Ireland. I didn't realise those rows of crypts had the headstones above. Take care.
You should! It's a beautiful peaceful cemetery
What a wonderful video. I so loved the military 🪖 portion. It was such a wonderful way to honor those that died. The stone that had the church carved in the side was spectacular. I am so sorry I missed everyone, but at least I was able to see this. Well done Cathal! It appears that you and Sue have given up the cats and have gone to the 🐿️🐿️🐿️ squirrels. LOL love you both... 🕊️
Lol thanks Sylvia ya the cats have disappeared 🤔😂
This is a beautiful place
Ireland's National Cemetery
Glasnevin and Deansgrange are on my itinerary for July this years. So excited to explore the ancestors graves . 🐨🥰 ☘️ 🇮🇪
Mount Jerome cemetery is beautiful also
Thank you very much GV, for a great walking tour. This cemetery is beautiful, and huge, and thankfully, well cared for.
I particularly liked the vaults, the family mausoleums. Those coffins ⚰️ look to be in good condition, considering their age. That one newer vault, with all that stuff in it, was definitely, cool. Perhaps, you can take it with you! Great video GV, thank you again.
Thanks Michael
@@GraveVisitations You are very much welcome!
What a lovely visit and beautiful cemetery. God watch over all those who fought for freedom and their sacrifices for fellow man. As for the homeless, a growing concern and sadness. I like to think the souls there welcomed them as our Lady and Savior would have, what a small gift to offer them. We know not their circumstance.❤
I really hope they found a place to stay. God bless Amy 🙏❤️
I enjoyed that.
👍
Where the homeless were sleeping , are there coffins beneath the tiled floor? Nice walk , GV. Thank you
Ya under that monument are the vaults I showed they are the monuments
Well kept too
Good layout
Now watching 👀
👍
James McCann (1840-1904) was a Dublin stock broker, a Nationalist M.P. at Westminster and a champion of rural reform in Ireland.
Copy and paste is handy 😁
Absolutely, I would not have had a clue otherwise
I totally agree about the graffiti 😔
Wow look at those headstones victorian and edwardian sculptures at they're best
Amazing cemetery and art
@@GraveVisitations definitely mate I respect the masons in those days how clever
fab place xx
It is a beautiful cemetery
What’s the beautiful music you have playing in the background ?
It's called Mantron
It's so very hard to get somethings fixed now... Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati Ohio has really beautiful buildings with churches on top they can't let them do tours anymore because they can't keep them from falling apart...they are so fragile...no one does that kind of stone work now
Yes it's difficult to get permission also I suppose
Have relatives buried there in Glasnevin ❤️❤️❤️❤️😔☘️☘️☘️😔
A beautiful cemetery may they rest in peace ❤️🙏
Where is Glasnevin GV? And is O'connol street in Dublin named after Daniel?
Glasnevin cemetery is in Dublin. The street was named after Daniel 🇮🇪
They certainly had some big and ornate monuments back then.
No expense spared
Families of ppl recently passed are starting to put the porcelain picture on their headstones x
They are a nice look
Just stop in to say hi the chat was not working on my end
Hi Regina youtube gremlins I bet
The woman is in a casket not a coffin
It's a man I think in casket
Cooool victorian gentleman
Lots of money spent
@Grave Visitations loads if that's what he wanted il tip my hat to him
I thought it was about a couple who selp with the dead that what it said
Yes it is in the video?
@@GraveVisitations The problem is that the title of this video makes it souund like the video is about the couple who slept with the dead. Click bait, since there was only a bite at the end with really not much of story to it. I'm from Canada, so I confess I skipped along until I found the tiny bit in the title.
Tree stumps 300 years old easy
Old as hell
I slept in a grab yard many many months untill something bwoke me it smelled as rot of flesh it wanted me to know it wer thear I started to pray it turned and went another direction bout two week later I woke to just the smell again like rot of flesh I prayed again it went away next daylight I gathered my stuff and left not to return tail from the grav yard true but strange still don't know what it wer but it was not of this world
I hope you got sorted OK and are in better conditions 👍
I now know that most grav yards have a protective spirit of the dead I think it was some kind of deamond I now have a home wife and many blessings
Not the best place to live
No but they were probably safe in cemetery cos its locked up at night
No excuse for graffiti.
It's not good is it
