I've been having an absolute blast this week filming the reality TV show The Blox. What I've been learning most is seeing how similar becoming an entrepreneur and a six-figure software developer are.

So I've been having an absolute blast this week filming the reality TV show The Blox. It's a reality TV show competition for entrepreneurs. They're training us on all the most effective best practices on creating a startup as well as giving us all sorts of exposure and practice pitching.
What I've been learning most is seeing how similar becoming an entrepreneur and a six-figure software developer are.
We always face these challenges in life - we're not quite sure which way to go. What makes the difference between those of us who are successful and those who aren’t?
Here’s the secret they don’t tell you - successful people don't know which way to go either!
They're just more resilient in the face of failure. Because they know that if they fail, it’s not because there’s anything wrong with them or that they can’t do it - it’s because the real-world tactic they tried didn’t work for their situation.
And so they move onto the next one. And the next one & the next one, until they see success. Successful people tweak & pivot until they reach their goal by whatever means necessary.
Let me give you an example. When I first learned to code, I couldn’t get anything working. It was a total nightmare of confusion. Getting more Computer Science degrees didn’t seem to be helping.
But I REALLY wanted to learn to code. It bugged me to no end that I couldn’t seem to get it.
So I hunkered down and COMMITTED to learning to code for myself.
(Along the way I created a system to make it easier to learn to code to solve any problem, so you don’t have to suffer like I did.)
It wasn’t until I truly committed to my success that things started to click. That I learned ways to write code from scratch, and developed a method to debug anything. And that method relies on the scientific method as it’s backbone.
It’s interesting - both programming & entrepreneurship rely on the scientific method, and if you want to be among the most successful professionals, you’re going to want to hone this skill.
(If you are okay to be a mediocre six figure software developer and get cut in the next round of layoffs, then by all means you don't need to follow these guidelines.)
But for those of you that are interested in really taking your tech career to the next level, learning to apply the scientific method to your day-to-day life will be a total game changer.
