Contagion of Madness is an actual card, "Activate only when an opponent's monster declares a direct attack. Inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's ATK at the same time you take Battle Damage.".
Basically the reason they both lost in in the actual show Alistar and Kaiba were both under 1000 LP, so when the rule screwing doom virus dragon attacked Alistar activated the card causing both of them to take almost 1000 LP damage, at the same time.

Fun fact: Some of these weird card effects are only in the anime, so don't be surprised if if they aren't in the real card game, that is if you play the card game because I do and I have been a fan since I saw my first episode and got my first structure deck. My brothers and I would have four way battle royale duels all the time.

Lol this season sucked so much, the original season I mean not the abriged. These villains were so lame with their extremely stupid backstories too. It was such a bummer when you found out who pegesis really was. This season was still better than anything in the new star wars series though, not just the kylo ren reveal. At least this season had a few cool moments.
