4:13 This statement is not correct based on my past videos, it seems I misremembered the results, AMD has generally been warmer in the past and that continues here this generation too.
Please do make a review about XOTIC PC G370SNW-G (X370SNW-G) Gaming Laptop
Yes but ryzen and i cpu's measures different thermal levels, intel measures average thermal condition while amd meauseres highest thermal point in the chip. This two could be at same level of temperatures. SFBE.
It's probably how Ryzen Zen 4 performs this year. It's generally pretty toasty even in the desktop side. Good thing AMD can take the heat.
try encoding with av1 codec, not h264, amd will perform much better
Probably the only reason i cant make clear stand between two of them...
Note to other youtubers: this is how benchmarking should be done.
Yea best thing about Jarrod is that he has timesamps in all of his videos!

Not really. Most of the game test results show signs of gpu bound scenario
@@dreadlock17that really doesn't matter when it's a cpu test and they're using the same gpu
0:57 Jarrod: "This video wasn't cheap to make... Let's fix that!"
That's probably one of the best sponsor transitions I've heard in a long time! 😂
Yet despite being sponsored by gigabyte, it is Lenovo laptops that are featured😂😂
İ also like it and to support channel i watch sponsor add 2 times.
Yes your comment is probably the most entertaining comment I've read in a long time!
@@ruidias9628fyi, Mr Jarrod has said to me before, regardless who sponsored the video he'd rather make other laptops review so he won't be bound to make fake/forced review based on the sponsor so he could make it as fair as possible
@@killuazoldyck5468 yup that's Why I think Mr Jarrod is the man! Humble and objective, sponsor is a need but make it as it is.
Wasn't bashing by any means, just an observation. That says a lot about Lenovo laptops as well as they are a staple atm with these legion slim series
Insane testing. 16 minutes, but must've taken days to go through!
Absolutely incredible.
I was about comment the same when scroll down
Damn, insane testing.
It's wasted time though, there are no confidence levels or margins of error so it's just running tests and mindlessly repeating whatever result he got from the third-party testing suite.
@@luisdanielmesa third-party testing? He does tests himself. Where is your proof he gets them from third-party?
Thanks! It took more than a full week to work through, but we got there in the end!
Only when I was wondering which cpu to pick for better gaming, Jarrod's here with their performance at 1440p in 25 games. Thank you!
It was fantastic seeing the power scaling graph at 3:52 I wish more reviewers did this! Thank you!
Hi Jarrod! Love the comparisons and the effort put into the testing must have been enormous!
Though I have a suggestion, can you please try out the games on lower resolution and settings (or maybe the settings from video but with RT) as a way to test the CPU performance? In my experience, most of these scenarios might just be GPU bottlenecked and might not give the difference between CPUs.
For example, my Ryzen 7 5800H gets rekt while playing Spiderman with RT on, and the GPU goes underutilized, suggesting a weak CPU performance with RT. Similar thing happens with Cyberpunk on RT Medium settings, where I struggle to get a constant 60FPS with DLSS Quality on 1080p with RTX 3070 laptop, due to the CPU bottlenecking the GPU (~70% GPU util).
Good review, I really like it that you went outside the box with the variation. I remember the days, not so long ago (15 years or so) that AMD Radeon was the best video card for 3D modelling, days were more simple, we had more patience.
This means that whichever CPU we use, we won't be bottlenecked by power nor efficiency. I guess it's better to go AMD since Intel is usually priced higher 🧐. Same power, better price.
I ordered a new laptop and found that the Legion pro 5i was cheaper than the Legion 5 pro. HX vs HS processor too.
AMD is harder to find this year though. The exception being the Framework Laptop 16, but that's still not shipping yet.

I was waiting for this comparison. Thanks Jarod!
I just bought the new Legion Slim 5 14 and I think it was a good decision with it's Ryzen 7 7840HS. I've always had Intel but I personally find battery life and performance without charger quite important so I'm glad to see that this is confirmed in this video
I also chose Ryzen, on quiet mode the machine runs everything I want and that's where efficiency (more performance) at lower power draw matters to me. I love that my laptop is VERY quiet even while gaming, it's insane
how good is it for gaming with 4060? i was thinking Slim 14inch Slim 16inch with 4070 or Pro 7i with 4080 still cant Decide @@escapetherace1943
I am looking at getting the Ryzen 7 7840HS aswell, would you say its worth it over nvidia? Also much more affordable too!
@@mrquickogaming depends on if lower 1% drops matter in the games you intend to play. For me not really I mostly play casual stuff now so I don't need 200+fps stuff anymore. I don't wear headphones and literally can barely hear my laptop running even when gaming and I have a ryzen. It's on quiet mode though so I'm slashing performance for that quietness but the machine is so fast I'm getting max fps anyways in what I play.
I can't compare it to intel, I simply chose this 1 for power reasons. If it's not on quiet mode though it doesn't matter if its a ryzen or an intel, they are LOUD. laptops are loud. That's why I shelled out $ for a top of the end laptop so I could run it at less performance and still have everything smooth and quiet. I'm on a 2022 legion pro though the 2023 stuff isn't much different
me too i choose the 7840hs and i found its better than intel versions in the silence mode and battery life right now! that s perfect!
Great Video, with you I literally understand all technical specs better , thanks
your able to adjust wattages at 2:32, i have watched other videos of these laptops and haven't seen this section. it appears its a custom profile from looking at your video but no one else has custom as an option on either the slim 5, slim 5i, slim 7 and slim 7i only on the pro models. what did you do to do that and can you adjust those wattages on any other profile other then custom?
I would be interested to know if there was a difference in fan performance (noise) between these two? Based on temperature info, it seems like Intel should be quieter - or are they so close that there is no difference. Thanks for the review.
Hey jarrod I wanna buy the legion slim 7i with the 3.2k display but I doubt that running 1080 games on high resolution screen looks really bad is that really the case?
Hey jarrod, just a quick question, why when I use the cpu benchmark page to compare these two models, it shows a much greater difference in performance between the two models!?
is the iGPU in intel still have advantage in Pr or Davinci ? like smoother playback, faster encoding time?
the free version of davinci doesn't have dGPU acceleration?
Back to Back awesome content. Just amazing. So glad you checked on cheap options like HP victus and Dell g series, because they can have some awesome sales as well. This one is probably one of the best videos of the year.
Glad you liked it!
This comparison is phenomenal, I have so much appreciation for the time you spent on this
what a world we live in that this is the exception and not the rule. this should be the default for everyone.
I have really enjoyed watching your videos. Best way to get a quick grasp of what to expect from nowadays laptops.
Great effort and such details. You devoation to the matter is much appreciated.
So which one is cooler and quaiter at normal using such web browsing, microsoft office and yt, netflix watching? I'm looking for one which is more quaiet in standrd usage (at low power), gaming is lot of power and it's normal that it will be loud.
Hi Jarrod, please do a similar styled comparison between Intel i7 13700hx and AMD ryzen 7 7745hx both found in Lenovo Legion pro 5 and pro 5i 2023.
Thank you so much for this video, I was looking for something exactly like this in order to make a decision.
I have seen your video about Legion Slim 7 Ryzen™ 7 7840HS. We have the same laptop, so you probably noticed already by using it that the boot time is slow. My laptop takes a long time to start up every time it is turned on. I’ve checked the BIOS and it’s updated, and I’ve also checked the programs that are running at startup. Even when I disable them, it still takes my laptop a long time to start up. There is also an issue with Tobii Experience Driver 11. I have updated it several times, but the problem is that once the update is installed and I scan for other updates, the same version of the Tobii Experience Driver is reinstalled several times, and it keeps appearing in the list of updates like it wasn’t updated before. Please, do you think you can help?
@Jarrod'sTech do you have any plans to review Msi Alpha 17 with Ryzen 9 7945HX
Hi Jarrod, I hope you see this. I have the 7840hs just got it returned one earlier and got another. However, my cinebench multi score with performance mode and max fan is around 16900-17133 never seen it go beyond that but here yours go beyon 17133. I was wondering if that is normal for my device.
The benchmark data is very insightful and the data presentation and summary is very well done!!
It's a fantastic video for sure. But I wonder, how to setting the max power limit to 50w? What app you use ?
Nice comparison. The compilation benchmark that is what I need
I have question for fast video editing should I look at the ram or processor. For example should I go with ryzen 5 16 gb ram or Intel I7 8 gb ram?
thanks for all tests
When you factor in that the Intel Raptor Lake is manufactured on Intel 7 formerly '10nm Enhanced SuperFin' (DUV) and the AMD Ryzen 7040 is manufactured on TSMC 4nm FinFet (EUV), the comparison is very interesting. Unfortunately Raptor Lake is the last monolithic architecture from Intel. It would have been great to test a monolithic design from Intel based on Intel 4 and compare it with a monolithic design from AMD based on TSMC 4N.
Thank you for the comprehensive review.
Impressive work 🔥..This might be the best way to do a comparison.. keep up the hard work...
Can I ask if the BIOS is AMI or InsydeH2O or Phoenix because I think I’ve bricked mine and couldn’t access it anymore
So it is possible to get this good efficiency also with Intel. That means the next Intel4 should be very good, there are many improvements on this front, besides the much better node. Things should get very interesting after december (actually a bit later, to also get products with those CPUs).
such a great video, congrats man!!! really appreciate the effort
YES, this is comparison I was waiting for! :)
Hey Jarrod can we have a mid year laptop awards? And recommend the best mid tier stuff, currently have a huge sale in my country, but I'm very confused which one to get
Can anyone give suggestions, i'm looking for new laptop. Which one should i take between this 2 chipset. Mostly used for GIS like autoCAD, rockscience slide 2, arcgis manifold and petrel. My old i5 8th gen seems couldn't handle those apps anymore, been using it for 6 years now.
I never tried amd, so i'm curious about its performance running gis program.
Hey Jarrod, hope you can help me with a decision. I am from Australia and looking to buy a gaming laptop for school and gaming. I have a budget of aud 1300-1500. I am confused between Asus Tuf F15 (i5+2050), Lenovo Ideapad gaming (i5+3050) and the Gigabyte G5 MF (i5+4050).
I bought the 2023 Legion Slim 7 (AMD 7840HS, 4060) for 1500 CAD all-in. It’s basically permanently in “quiet” mode for me because both CPU and GPU perform so well at lower wattages. I’m definitely not a hard core gamer but I play AoE 4 on high settings at 1600p and it’s buttery smooth with imperceptible fan noise. For someone like me it’s perfect. I really appreciate the noise/temps/battery-to-performance ratio but I understand everyone has different needs.
I got the same laptop as well! Great machine, great build quality. It gets a bit warmer than I'd like on the keyboard deck but nothing major (and it's to be expected since it's all metal)
@@suschilegge1683 I haven’t personally felt mine getting warm since I’m always in quiet mode. Though you’re right, it’s expected for a metal thin and light to get warm under gaming loads. Maybe a game in the future will actually entice me to get out of quiet mode. For now though, I can’t get over it. I’ve never gamed on a laptop before that doesn’t sound or feel like it’s trying super hard. It makes me feel like I’ve truly upgraded to a better machine, not just improved raw performance.
Lenovo is the best in the game@@Filthy_Casual101
Currently amd def is the way to go, bought a laptop with 12700h and it is really bad, 12700h scores the same score at 75 watts as amd 7840hs at 40 watts, currenty intel is horribble
2:42 Information that I was waiting for, thank you very much even though I expected as low as 10W like previous comparison.
@JarrodsTech, how have you tested the 7840HS for 50 W and 85 W if the wattage limit in most laptops I've been checking is just 45 W?
As he shows, in Lenovo Vantage for the Legion laptops, you can set the TDP Limit of the processor.
Thank you for such a comprehensive comparison. This was very insightful.
This is what we need. I hope other reviewers are taking note.
Amazing review. Kudos to the reviewer, this was way above the industry standard.
Amazing comparison video. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I wanted EXACTLY this video and it's released now!
should i get legion slim 5 with 7640hs or updrage it to 7840hs? ( around 60 usd more converted ) with 4060
Wow i have not seen the review like this (with power), awesome plz keep doing it
I happen to have a Ryzen 7840hs. However, the processor seems to be working on a low power basis or something as I only manage to g t up to 12500 score in cinebebch which is pretty low and I don't really know what to do
Great effort to test so many games! Though I'm not sure testing in 1440p is the best choice when testing CPUs, even more so when paired with an 4060. Even with 1080p high settings I would assume we run into a GPU bottleneck frequently. So 720p low (for an actual cpu speed comparison) and 1080p high (for a realistic gaming scenario) would be better imo.
I may have been outdated, but I want know about the quick sync thing. Is it still an advantage for intel?
Very well done! I will keep the link to end some arguments!
very informative! hops, that you do same review for new gen processors, i totally misunderstand what is going on here
Cool, as always! Thanks
hey Jarrod. you could look at doing that laptop deals aggregator for the UK too ;)
Hey bro i want buy laptop hp victus 16 , so for multitasking better i7 13700hx or amd ryzen 7 7840hs both is RTX 4060
Nice video, I’ve been trying to decide between laptops for more than a week and your channel has been very helpful, you’ve earned a subscriber!
I know it might be a silly question, but taking into account it would be my first gaming laptop and I don’t have much experience with them… I am thinking of getting the slim with the AMD 7840HS/4060, but…. The i913900HX/4070 is only 300€ more expensive (I don’t mind paying that difference to be honest), would it be worth it? Does a more powerful cpu/gpu translate in more temperature in the end?, or the opposite? (Again, not experienced in gaming laptops😅, but I do know I don’t want an uncomfortably hot laptop or a jet engine sound all the time…)
what did you pick? the amd is 200 euro's cheaper then the i9 in my country
Really good test. Thanks!
had to buy the i7 version since it was the only one with a sale unlike the ryzen ones (in my country at least) but I guess its not that big of a gap when it comes to actually using it right? in numbers it forsure is a gap but would it be noticable irl?
Simply the best comparisons and benchmarks in all TH-cam! Thanks Jarrod!
I got the legion slim 7 with 7840hs,32gb ram and 4060 , 3,2k screen , it cost 320 euro less than the intel version , I'm loving it too much and after seeing your video I'm happy that i didn't spend that 320 euro for the Intel version , if both had had the same price or Intel was a little less expensive I would have gone with the Intel, but 320 euros was a lot and AMD does everything I wanted to do, it is an excellent computer, fast and very silent, I have never heard its fans working except when I was doing benchmarks. On R23 single core in performance mode I got 1767 and multicore 17483. I would say excellent.
Awesome,I am thinking between Slim 7 and Pro 5…😊
@@nrogo go with the slim 7 , it is a fantastic computer, silent, fast, really excellent build quality, above all the 3.2k 165 hertz screen is just amazing, 32 GB of RAM which is enough for all the tasks you want and a 99,9 Wh battery.
@@nrogo with slim 7 you will certainly have better battery life, because both the processor consumes less and the battery is larger, but if you go for the 7945hx I don't know, at that point the computer becomes much more powerful but in any case you will lose on battery life a lot, then it all depends on how much you pay for it, I paid 1400 euros for the slim 7, for a pro 5 with the same RAM and SSD with the 7945hx I have to pay 2234 which I will never do, and then I will never have the chance to have 3.2 screen, so for me the slim 7 was the best choice.
This is what I was looking for. Thx
