That's very strong as the line is double for over a full inch.
The only problem I see whit those loops.
Is when use mono shootingline they cut true the coating and wear on your braid so it sooner or later break.
I fish big rivers and use deep water Express from SA they has multi filament core and as long coating is fine no problem! As the coating start to been cut in to. They brake and pretty easy to be honest. As we fish deep around boulders and big rocks we snagged a lot so we use 50lbs mono shootingline. Different brands OPST Lazar line Guideline compline2
    SA flat shootingline.
The flats dont cut as quickly as the round ones do. This should been brought up I think. Just my input here. Good videos and good expansion for new people this is very handy for them.
    Thanks Peter !

Airflo lines are made out of Polyurethane (PUR) vs. PVC for the rest of the industry. They also usually put a sleeve over the loop as well. These two factors make Airflo shooting head loops much less prone to being cut by mono. Many of the heads sold by Guideline are made by Airflo for Guideline. Give these PUR heads a try.

Hi Peter I do fish those all 3D plus lines they hold pretty good....
As my shootingline is 50lbs or more and my leader is 25lbs that's fine no problem! But as you fish very deep in our pools who is 20-40ft deep and you cant wade those only fish from the bank and we cast 90° out feed line and step down before we start the swing. That is big boulders some are 10-15ft big and as line lay around and you snagged there comes the issue. Braided loops who is fully sealed with super glue hold up best but after a season there is need for a new line and loop as well. In Norway we fish as normal there is no problem what so ever! Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

@@bjornchristiansson2827 The Niagara River here in Ontario is like that (think Niagara Falls). Very deep, fast with lots of nasty, jagged boulders and I've lost full sinkers to those rocks. Sometimes it just means sacrificing a few lines to the river gods.

Oh yes so do we ! Sometimes we get up half the line.
We use Scientific anglers deep water Express 850gr and the new UST Express sink8 for those pools.

I just don't like the loops. I think part of the reason is fishing through mossy areas for bass which is mainly what I do. Muck seems too build up on that sections (loop to loop vs just tying a snell or nail knot. So, I got in the habit of cutting them off years ago. How often are people taking the leader off to warrant the loop?

I can understand the slime thing, but for many of us, constant leader changes are the norm. If I nail knotted the leader to my fly line, within a few weeks I'd be chopping it back into the taper as I kept tying on new leaders.
I constantly change my leaders to fit the fishing situation and the flies I'm using. I'll change my leader while on the river if I'm making a drastic switch in the type of fly I'm using. I've set my gear up to enable rapid leader builds while on the water.
Loops are a godsend for beginners as they're constantly trashing leaders when they start out. It's a good idea for beginners to buy combo kits, but many of these kits come with leaders nail knotted to the fly line. By the time I get them for lessons, their original leader is full of nicks and wind knots, plus most if not all of the tippet section is gone. I just turn the last few inches of the butt of their leader into a transition loop and then make a new leader for them so they can actually fish effectively.
Factory made loops on the ends of our lines solve so many problems.

Even with the heaviest 15+ foot two-hander, You can't put more than about 5 kg of pressure on the fish, with the rod in an 45 degrees angle, so You're probably right....

      @hooked4lifeca  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually much less than that if the rod is held at a right angle to the line. Less than 1 kg. usually. I've done a number of pull tests and it's surprising how little pressure a 15 footer applies to a fish. If we have a 12' 8 wt., a 13' 9 wt., a 14' 10 wt., and a 15' 11 wt. they all put the same amount of pressure on a fish. These tests were done with the rod held at a right angle to the line and the pull was measured on a digital scale. I was using Imperial at the time, not Metric and all rods pulled about 1.6 to 1.7 lbs. pressure.

Why not just buy braided loop connectors ?

Because I detest them. Too many failures, too many problems.
