I have been camping out of the back of the truck since the 80’s. I camp when I go fishing. I have a topper with a bed rug inside my Tacoma with a six foot bed. Set up is simple, roll out the sleeping pad and bag and you are done. I live in Wyoming and sometimes a tent isn’t the best idea. The beautiful thing about living in the west is there is dispersed camping everywhere. I love camping next to a river, that is my happy place.

I used a truck tent for a while - light weight, somewhat hassle free setup and lots of room while camping. They are a good option especially if you plan on staying put for a few days, taking them down and back up gets old fast! I have since just migrated to a nice ground tent from Gazelle. See you around! Great video too btw.

Wool blankets are clutch here in Canada, I take two for camping, one under my sleeping bag, and one over to keep the warmth if needed.

I have a Ford Ranger and the exact same tent. I love it because it all fits neatly under my tonneau cover. I built a bed platform and a same wardrobe. I love that it is so quick to set up and take down. I was just in Southern Utah dodging thunderstorms. If I need to move, I drop the tent, fold the sides into the truckbed and pull the tonneau cover over it and take off. This way I can keep the bed platform and wardrobe in the truck all camping season. I'm ready to go at a moments notice. Love it.

I’m on my 3rd taco with a snug top and will never have a truck without a topper. I can pull over anywhere and crawl in the back to sleep. I’ve slept in raging PNW storms, blizzards no problem. And have a front to back prinsu rack for most of my gear. The dawgs love it.

The nice thing about camper shells is you can use the top with a rack to store even more equipment. Although for once in awhile the tents will do the trick. If it works for you that’s all that matters. Keep truckin Chloe! ❤

I have this exact tent, and its been great. I love the way you can set it up to be a super comfortable bedroom. We added the SUV tent to the equation as an annex as well. For comfort, it is 2nd to none. Its roomie, its relatively easy to set it all up, and it just looks cool too. Weve gotten a lot of compliments on our camp set-up. If youre gonna set up camp and stay in one spot for a few days, or if youre overlanding solo its not much of a hassle. But if youre overlanding with people that have RTTs, it can be anxiety inducing trying to break camp fast enough to not feel like youre the hold up. A couple tips on set-up to make it fit a little easier and give you a better fit. One, make sure the tailgate portion is on correctly before pulling the tent onto the bed. If you can, move the orange tie down straps about 2' to the side wall of the bed (close to that tie down you showed off), not at the tailgate. It helps with the overall positioning of the tent. The 2 black tie downs at the front work best if the one that goes back at an angle goes over top of the one that goes straight down. I dont know why it matrers, but it does. My tent is not an exact fit either, as it is made for a 6' tacoma bed and my Colorado long bed is 6'2". So i tend to settle for as close to a perfect set-up as i can get. That interior flap is not a 100% needed as long as the exterior one is put on right. We are likely switching to a RTT set-up for the faster set-up/takedown, but i will forever love this tent. And i highly recommend the suv/annex tent if you want a place to stand up to get changed, keep a toilet private or just have a space you can hang out in if the weather is crap.

I have this one as well.. the thing about it is that it's made for a fullsize pickup bed. That's why the sides sit way lower than they should. It does the thing though. I'll ditch it for an ikamper as soon as budget allows.

I went to Monache Meadow last weekend. Nice thing about overland is less setup at night. Have FJ we just sleep inside. For Monache, you can drive to the Troy campground after work then drive the trail to Monache in the morning and sleep at the top or even drive back down the same day. Fun trail ! Not too challenging and pretty. Btw, my favorite part of your setup is the bottle opener…overlanding should be cheap.

its a great truck bed tent, im 6ft. with a tacoma sr5. i sleep comfortably
TIP: the orange cable gets hooked on the inside to those D Rings you installed, thus allowing the flaps to go inside the bed when you tighten them.

Not to be a downer but a gazelle tent works so much faster max 10 minutes to set up that’s with taking your time. Much more practical for affordable over landing. Have enjoyed your videos shout out to San Diego, live in PNW now but looks like I’ve seen some mission trails shots in the background on one of your videos absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots west Fortuna and Pyles peek my favorite areas.

IMHO, that is the perfect setup for camping "once in a while"! If you traveling for multiple weeks or if this was your home, something different may be in order. Definitely would be cool to have a comparison video with your rig and a dedicated overlander.

Great video! Can’t wait to visit more national parks with my minimal setup. Just bought a
Fas-Top Traveller combo (tonneau cover and softopper) It is so easy and versatile for my daily driver. I can still use my truck to truck lol. I use the marbero power station and solar panel. I’m not able to go camping too much so did not need all the overland stuff I see on other Tacomas. I am working on a removable sleeping platform. I get made fun of sometimes because I have a sport 2WD but it gets me where I want. I love my truck. Keep up the great work!

I'm in the process with time to get billie bars and a rtt combo for a quick removal to keep the truck for truck things and easy/comfy camping trips. Low profile to help with wind resistance. Only reason I'm willing to spend the money is due to having back issues and a hip implant. If that wasn't the case a good ole ground tent would do. haha All being done on a first gen single cab 2.7 4x4 taco.

I ended up going tent on the ground.
if I ever gotta go drive I can without taking Anything apart.
I bought the famous 14k plus review 6 person sundome Coleman.
We used it it rained even though weather app showed no rain. Tent held up pretty dang A+ not a single drip inside the tent. I highly recommend it.
Other than the elk going on a hollering spree from 10pm -1am everything was fine. I legit was scared outa my mind .

I went to your link and it gave the 5ft bed model for almost $200, but then had a mid size option for like $89 and the dementia’s didn’t make any sense as it said 23 inches in length. I like the tent, just not sure what to order. If you can’t remember that’s totally ok. Any response would be appreciated very much.

I get so much dust here in Nevada.
Most (almost all) my gear that go into my bed are in hard cases.
Even with a bed cover, dust seems to just get in.
