  • Griffith'experiment - This lecture explains about the Griffith's experiment to prove the transfer of gene between bacteria known as the genetic transformation. Griffith carried out an experiment in mice using pneumococcus bacteria to check whether a non virulent strain converted into a virulent strain. Watch this video lecture to get the Griffith's experiment explained.

    Question Sir please answer ---
    s strain cause death to mice due to presence of capsule not in dna of bacteria
    But heat killed (s) don't have capsule then how it lead to death of mice .....

    • @jddominguez17
      @jddominguez17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The s strain DOES have the gene that encodes for that capsule, however, the r strain does not. As explained, the capsule is what gives the s strain the ability to kill. When this strain is heat-killed, it is no longer lethal, but the gene that encodes for the capsule is still present. When this heat-killed s strain bacteria is coupled with the non-lethal r strain, the gene is transferred from the s strain to the r strain through horizontal gene transfer which now gives it the ability to produce the capsules initially exclusive to the s strain, and is now lethal. I hope this helps!

    In the last case, if the s-type bacteria is sharing it's genome to r-type then the r-type bacteria will behave like a s-type, it is fine.
    But if the r-type bacteria is in contact with the immune system of the host, then how will it survive? How will it kill the host?
