Hi! Thanks a lot! 😊 I've just made a rectangular slab with clay. Roll out the clay and cut a rectangular shape.

How long would a person take to make this idol if trying first time ? I want to try making this year. Also, can I use Crayola air dry clay? Any special instructions for using that clay?
Hello! 😊 I guess for a first-timer, it'll take around 4-5 hours in total. You can use air dry clay, but it won't be soluble in water so it could be difficult to do the finishing touches. But still, you are going to keep the idol even after visarjan then go for it. Usually shadu clay is used as it's eco-friendly and dissolves in water after visarjan.
Crayola air dry clay is also a type of earth clay.. it dissolves in water.. I tried Ganesha idol using crayola air dry clay.. it works same as normal clay .. I made a video on it.. please do watch..

Hey I had a question... I want to make idol but it's will take too long time to get amazon delivery of sadhu mati at my place,. And as ganesh chaturthi is very near, so instead can I use normal mitti.
You will get shadu maati in any stationery shop
Hi! Yes you can get it in an art store or you can use normal mitti but make sure you sift it well so that the stones and impurities gone. And let it rest for some time before you start making the idol.

Very nicely made video. Thank you. I want to know, how many days before Ganpati I should make the murti so that it dries fully? Also do we need to keep some stick or support before fixing head?
Hi! You can make the idol in a day or two and then let it dry for 3-4 days before painting so consider making it at least a week in advance. If your idol is slightly big in size then it's better to insert a toothpick to support the head. For small idol like this one (7"-8" height) it's not required.
@@shrutikolhatkar5 I just finished making my Ganesha. It has turned out nice, thanks to your video. Only thing, it is not having a smooth finish like yours. How to get it? I tried smoothing with little water but it is not as smooth as yours. Will the idol develop cracks when it dries up?
@@kalaravi9420 great to know that your idol turned out nice😃. You can use a thick brush and some water and continuously keep going over the surfaces you want to smoothen. You have to apply a little pressure. If the idol is starting to slightly dry then make a paste with some clay and water and apply a thin layer. But don't do this if completely dried or it'll crack and fall off. Also don't keep it in direct sunlight. Sudden heat will develop cracks. Otherwise normally it shouldn't crack.

Hey thanks 😊 you can try with maida and turmeric. That's an instant clay.
Please tell how to make a dough of clay. What have you mixed with clay and in what proportion? This video is amazing.
Hi! Thanks for watching! 😊 I've mixed clay powder with water. Keep some powder aside and add it later if your dough is sticky. Knead the dough well to make it soft and easy to use.

Instead of shadu mitti we can use paper mache also?
Hi Shravani! Yes you can definitely use paper mache as well. Only for detailing like jewelry etc, you can add some baby powder and glue to the paper mache to make a smoother dough.

Hello Aditi, ideally yes! Or you should at least rest the dough for 4-5 hours before starting and ensure you wrap it properly to prevent it from drying. (Using a plastic sheet or damp cloth)
