A lot of the problem with this debacle, and what led to Rockstar's original claims, is that the Hot Coffee mod, was actually *two* mods in one. See, the actual mini-game that Rockstar basically disabled, consisted of two fully clothed characters involved in a rhythm game. Shortly after this mini-game was unlocked (mod #1), someone else made a nude skin for the female characters, that would only appear during the mini-game (mod #2). So when Rockstar claimed that it was a mod - they weren't wrong, It's just that the moral guardians assumed that the nudity was part of the mini-game, because that would make *sense*. Of course, we'll ignore the whole concept of parents getting angry at Rockstar for putting such content into a game , that should only be played by people 17 or older, in the first place. But let's talk about how Rockstar had zero fucks to give with the next GTA game (GTA IV). 1. Just like in the previous 3D games, you can still pick up prostitutes - but this time around, you get the choice of what kind of service you want, and if you rotate the camera around, you'll see said "services" fully depicted on your character - albeit, both characters are fully clothed. So basically - the part Rockstar contributed to the Hot Coffee mod - with just less interactivity. 2. One of the DLCs for that game, shows full frontal *male* nudity during a cutscene. 3. The game's Statue of Liberty expy, bears a striking resemblance to a particular former Senator and Secretary of State.
Anyone who actually saw the horrendous models warping together in what is supposed to be intercourse would never accuse it of tarnishing anything but someone's sanity.

Then Superman comes back and beats everyone's ass despite having squashed the beef in BVS just to totally play it off when Lois Lucious Pussy Lane shows up to calm his tits. Then all is well without so much as an apology for beating up the other 4 random heroes.

I love these videos, I was born around alot of these events took place so I have not heard about most of them because I was quite young. And getting a nice little history lesson from yahtzee about it never fails to brighten my day.
People that complain about the content on a game being too much for young kids should automatically have their opinions be disregarded, why you may ask? its simple. Every game comes with an age rating that states who and who shouldn't be playing the game. San Andreas was created for the Mature gamer, 18 and above, if a child is found playing these types of games then its the parents fault for not paying attention and assume that all video games are for kids. These people need to take responsibility for their own kids.
This writing is unbelievable. Horses in a glue vat, dick pics between the pages of very hungry caterpillar. Imagery, metaphors, analysis, at breakneck pace. Quality content.
If it was only JL. It's been failure after failure. They don't know what the fans want, because honestly, neither do we. They don't know what they want to be, except a billion dollar dream machine like the MCU. So they just keep throwing movies at us, hoping something will stick and tilt the balance in their favour.
Out of five movies, they've had ONE that rose above the level of "adequate," and a couple that fell way short of that goal. Not to mention that Justice League was their worst-performing movie yet when it *should* have been an easy home run. Even if they somehow got the quality level going forward at Wonder Woman levels, they'd still have one hell of an uphill battle trying to regain an audience at this point. (Particularly considering that their next two movies are about characters that aren't big draws to begin with...)
The other movies had a host of other problems. But we do know for a fact JL was rushed out the door because the CEO in charge just wanted to get it out, get his bonus, and be done with it.
The problem is that parents complain about games teaching their kids poor sexual values but those same parent refuse to teach their kids sex-Ed themselves.
the real lesson is controversy dont have shit against the simple passage of time, now it's 2018 and San Andreas can compete with street fighter for most ports/re-releases

“We have to fight and make a fuss, before somebody thinks of blaming us~!”
Isn't it strange how people will be more offended towards sex in entertainment then violence? The two things we have hardwired to our instincts, but we are more worried about little Billy learning about the birds & the bees then how to kill a man five ways with a spoon. Still, if you can tell the difference from reality and fantasy, there is something more going on then just the type of games you're playing ...
"Fucking great"
Hah...
I think one need to look at more then shooting statistics from previous world wars, but you do have a point. We modern humans have this strange ability to look past out basic instincts. Not everyone is wired the same way though, and there are people out there still prone to being violent.
They didn't say "murder", they said "violence". If you ever had to take care of a bunch of boys, you would know that none of them are murderous toward each other but they can be quite violent.
"Feminism started in america, our whorish-" - Stopped there, since I knew the comment was just going to get even dumber if I kept reading it.
America has problems with sex in media due to its heavy roots in Christian conservatism. It's a lot less prevalent now, considering we're post-Sexual Revolution, but it's still affected our attitudes toward sex as a society.
It's not the Sex or the Violence, it's called shitty parenting.
If you give little timmy GTA 12 and he's not old enough to understand right from wrong, that's on you, it's not on the Videogame/Book/Movie/Gun.
When I was younger and first played GTA, I refused to shoot at police, I just drove a damn taxi around and ran away from any gang members that shot at me, somebody somewhere taught me that random useless killing was wrong, go figure?!
I hope Yahtzee keeps doing these videos, they're a lot more interesting than his usual reviews. He's providing insight on the history of video games, which is important because we can't understand the trajectory of the future if we don't understand the past.
Also, I'd like to remind everyone that Jack Thompson was eventually disbarred (IE, banned from practicing law) for professional misconduct. He made false statements, intimidated witnesses, and was generally unethical in court proceedings. I'm not surprised that him, Hillary Clinton, and all the other demagogues that jumped on the "videogames are evil!!1" bandwagon are huge scumbags.
Amen.
"we can't understand the trajectory of the future" Wait, so video games are comets? I always knew they were out of this world.
Ba-Dum Tish.
>Hot Coffee won’t happen today.
Well…about that…
“Guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet... but your kids are gonna love it.” 😎🤣💯
"Meanwhile Europe only had an 18+ rating, which the game already had. So Europe didn't give a shit" :D Ah, the joys of living in a part of the world with a sensible movie and game rating system.
Can we transfer that to America, along with a lot of other needed changes?
@@ForrestFox626 write to your congressman about how terrible the NC17 rating is and that it should be removed. It might not make a difference, but it's something you can do.
Unfortunately that's where the sensibilities end.
Now question mass immigration on facebook and see how long it takes for you to be arrested xD
@@memewizard8372 um, never? I'm not aware of anyone having ever been arrested for arguing that migration levels are too high on FB.
Honestly, I wish that parents would stop shouting at game publishers for making games that their kids aren't supposed to play. They should focus on being parents instead.
GreyWolfLeaderTW Pfft the fuck they can't. What kind of parent isn't making sure their kid isn't being exposed to fucked up shit at their friends' houses? That's how a lotta kids get molested, by placing their faith in other adults. If you're not all up in your kids' business you're parenting wrong. If you're granting them access to electronics you don't trust them with, you're parenting wrong AND wasting money.
@@FerociousPaul Ooooooooh boy, you have no idea how wrong and naive you are. You can't forbid stuff to kids! The more stuff you try to forbid, the more they are going to want it, and they will get it one way or the other. And the older they get, they will evolve to adapt to your style of rule enforcing and start working together with other kids. They are like a mafia. I remember all the scheming, lying, smuggling, illicit key copying... Aah, good times. And I was a calm one, didn't do too much. The only kids I knew that didn't engage in breaking the rules on a regular basis had some slight mental illness and weren't interested in those things.
Kids aren't stupid, they can tell apart obvious danger, reasonable warning and baseless fear-mongering.
Okay, they are stupid and you must never even imply that "You are not old enough yet", because they will take this as a personal challenge, but still. Unless you plan on a 1984-style constant surveillance system complete with planned rebellions and their subsequent crushing, you aren't going to prevent your kids from doing anything just by force. Talk to them, they are humans with no experience wanting to acquire said experience.
@@FerociousPaul Sorry if I misread your comment, but the first answer was basically "parents can't control their kids 100% of the time", and your "Pfft the fuck they can't" and "If you're not all up in your kids' business you're parenting wrong" sounded like you implied that they should be controlling everything (i.e. forbidding stuff that will seem arbitrary to kids), and I just pointed out that you can't do that.
Anyway, sure, you can't just leave the kids alone and not teach them anything. That will end up badly. It's just that nobody will learn anything from a teacher they don't like or trust. Bad teaching is worse than no teaching.
@@FerociousPaul Wait... Holy shit, you are the same guy from the only other comment I replied to in this video!
The coincidences are too many, we're destined to be together, man...
@@Heulerado Best friends for life?
Yes cause Tv, dvd's, Pc's and consoles are our digital robotic babysitter and I can't be bother to think whether or not the things I buy to my child will affect him or not. I will now go ahead and complain to these big companies instead of blaming myself for my shortcomings as a parents.
Its the world we live in, honestly the biggest problem comes from the fact that these days most couples have to have both members working to survive. So TV and games become the next best babysitter.
its creating a really fucked up society
FiresideBoomer Kinda like Japan. But it still doesn't excuse the fact that they're being irresponsible of what they give to their children. It doesn't hurt to have a quick look if the game is adequate for their child or not. Plus we have phone to keep in thouch.
If this parents are having too much trouble then they might as well only buying Nintendo console products.
Ryocan Jetstream Lover There's a better chance of me becoming Raptor Jesus than there is a human realizing their faults.
Udayveer Bhadauria Probably because there's a lot more people that are comfortable being assholes than good people. Best way to live is just doing what you love and everything else white noise.
"Basically the same reason there's still a DC Cinematic Universe"
Oof. That's fucking brutal, Yahtz. I mean, it's fucking true and the corporate cockrings should have taken the poor malformed monstrosity that was BvS and shotgunned it behind the tool shed years before it ever had the chance to disgrace movie screens worldwide and/or my living room television, but still.
James LaValle As far as I'm concerned the DCEU had its metaphorical behind the shed execution with the release of BvS and ever since then they've just been putting on a morbid puppet show with the corpse.
hey i liked BvS
James LaValle it’s not brutal; it’s nothing but the truth. They know most of the DC films have been shit, as does the audience. Yet they blow hundreds of millions on them. Why? Because top managers make hella $$$ off it.
safer doolie
Would you mind telling us other things you liked so we can safely avoid them?
Then Superman comes back and beats everyone's ass despite having squashed the beef in BVS just to totally play it off when Lois Lucious Pussy Lane shows up to calm his tits. Then all is well without so much as an apology for beating up the other 4 random heroes.
Fantastic content, man.
In an age where ppl tend to have long, drawn-out videos your don't-take-a-breath style is so refreshing.
Cheers.
let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee
Music to my ears... Actually... It kind of is music anyways...
Fuck it you get the point.
Lol, and I thought the last time we'd ever hear that was from the E.T. review.
The Anti Cancer He did it for the fifth generation of consoles too.
Give up on the memes, your e-celeb senpai is not going to notice you
I smile and laugh with glee everytime i hear that
The last line, about the DC cinematic universe.
So true it hurts.
The trick is to go in expecting garbage. Lower those expectation right down. Then they just seem like 6/10 movies
Game Design by Gigity McD
Or you can stop giving shitty movies your money and pay to see a good movie??
Of course, it's so simple. The only variable in this equation is whether I see shitty movies or good movies. There's nothing else that could possibly affect the situation. Why didn't I see it before? haha
Game Design by Gigity McD
Keep giving shit movies your money and they'll never change. What are you on about?
"If the history of moral panic has taught us anything, it's that complying with the moral panic is the least effective way to end it."
AMEN, Yahtz. If only the world would remember that in these times.
These retrospective videos are my personal favourites.
I love these videos, I was born around alot of these events took place so I have not heard about most of them because I was quite young. And getting a nice little history lesson from yahtzee about it never fails to brighten my day.
"Going to get *real fucking peaceful* on these motherfuckers"
That's the first genuine laugh I've had in a long time, thanks Yahtzee
People that complain about the content on a game being too much for young kids should automatically have their opinions be disregarded, why you may ask? its simple. Every game comes with an age rating that states who and who shouldn't be playing the game. San Andreas was created for the Mature gamer, 18 and above, if a child is found playing these types of games then its the parents fault for not paying attention and assume that all video games are for kids. These people need to take responsibility for their own kids.
Do the jingle... DO THE JINGLE...

This writing is unbelievable. Horses in a glue vat, dick pics between the pages of very hungry caterpillar. Imagery, metaphors, analysis, at breakneck pace. Quality content.
God dang it! That "let's all laugh" is SO catchy, it's my ringtone.
I'm down with more content like this in the future. This was pretty neat.
thanks! if you wanna see more of my work just look up my name on twitter or tumblr (partly nsfw tho)
That shot fired at the end, classic Yahtzee.
SHOTS FIRED AT THE DCEU!!!!
It's true though. JL was rushed out the door by some shit stain CEO so he could get his big fat bonus check for it releasing on time.
(Particularly considering that their next two movies are about characters that aren't big draws to begin with...)
it's not much of a shot if they've already been sticking the gun in their mouth since Dawn of Justice lol
The other movies had a host of other problems. But we do know for a fact JL was rushed out the door because the CEO in charge just wanted to get it out, get his bonus, and be done with it.
1:17 "And in the spirit of grinding *waggle eyebrows*" brilliant. Just. Brilliant.
You had me absolutely dying when you said the peace holic's we're going to get really peaceful on them
The problem is that parents complain about games teaching their kids poor sexual values but those same parent refuse to teach their kids sex-Ed themselves.
and probably also lobby to remove sex ed from schooling.
2:46 hahaha Yahtzee I never thought you’d bring the hungry caterpillar into this
The jingle brings a smile to my face every time
Don't drop it in your lap, that's all i can say.
I love this little miniseries you’re doing. It’s like laughing at mental rejects in video game publisher form
"That meddling fool Flash Gorden!"
"Weld my evil clacker shut"
I have a terrible cold and a really sore throat, I really shouldn't be laughing so hard at that.
ooooooo A jab at Trump and Hillary and both at the same time, you never cease to impress me.
Nanny state and closing joke split my sides. Great craic
4:32 aged like a fine wine
Too true
This was about the time in 2007 when Wil Wheaton delivered a keynote speech telling Jack Thompson to reverse air pressure on his family jewels.
the real lesson is controversy dont have shit against the simple passage of time, now it's 2018 and San Andreas can compete with street fighter for most ports/re-releases
marsil602 I think you mean Skyrim.
Neither of them have got nothing on Resident Evil 4
Minecraft, too.
4:17 .... Holy crap I'm rolling on the ground right now!!! So glad I looked this channel up!!!!
That DCEU jab at the end.
The opening of the video is a perfect example of how TH-cam leadership views the word suicide right now because according them even saying the words might summon a dragon from the depths of hell or something like that
I dunno if anybody noticed, but Yahtzee's last point on why simple issues drag on applies to a LOT more than just games/moral panics.
Jack Thompson...
That is a name i have not heard in a long time...
shaoronmd didnt think id find a person in relation to games id hate more but recent years has proven that thought wrong
They were given the boot years ago.
I had to google to check if he was still alive.
"Cheesy whatsits in an ill fitting suit" ... XD
Cannot express how excited I was to hear another audiobook was available. Immediate purchase
"I think it's fair to say that hot coffee wouldn't happen today." - Welp...three years later, and it quite literally happened again. First Bayonetta in Smash and now this. It's like Yahtzee has this weird future-vision that sometimes only conforms to the opposite of what he says.
Love this series, honestly some this ZPs top work are these little history lessons.
Well you were right. Hot Coffee happened again and pulled within hours
"We must blame them and cause a fuss before somebody thinks of blaming UUUUUUUS!"
Oh lord, can't wait till he gets to the gamer gate episode
That'll probably trigger half his fans, I don't get the feeling he sympathizes with those petulant crybaby gits.
gg was hilarious. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Aaaah my favorite jingle. It's my favorite ringtone now
3:06 Australia actually has 2 ratings above M, which are MA(15+) and R(18+).
Not in 2005. If it had MA/R content at all, the Australian government simply wouldn't allow it to be released.
R(18+) wasn't introduced until 2012, MA was around at the time, but because it was basically porn, the Australian classification team didn't allow it.
To put it lightly, Australia is basically a censorship hell-hole
Three years after being uploaded, it still is important
Knowing that Yahtzee will one day review *HuniePop*
it fills me with determination!
How long will you be doing this?
Well, he mainly focuses on narrative design, and Huniepop has as much narrative design as any other dating sim, on the basis that it's basically a Pornhub ad. Ex. *Hot milfs in your area want to date you for no reason whatsoever. ON WITH THE GAME!*
Paradox Acres I haven’t been on this channel for a while. It warms my heart to see you’re still here. Cheers mate
Huniepop was unironically a great game, porn aside the art, voice acting and mini game were gold.
Too good, actually. It made me feel awkward and alone.
I headbang to your intro every, single, time
I'm sure this subject won't lead to any arguments or incivility from the comment section.
I've already been told that I support the death of children by AR-15's for defending my rights.
The internet never changes, hahah.
Not really everone seems to agree that the hot coffee controversy was incredably stupid
I paused the video to search the demands (not knowing he would actually show them in the background anyway), and I have not laughed that hard in a while. Thank you Yahtzee.
I like how the "moral guardian" looks like Mary Whitehouse. She was just the worst enemy for the entire entertainment industry.
As a Doctor Who fan: fuck Mary Whitehouse (and Michael Grade!)
Your videos make me feel better.
*Thanks* *For* *The* *Content* !
LMAO who''s here after Rockstars complete fail attempt to re-release the Definitive Editions in 2021???
Me and I didn't even buy it.
I AM 🤣👏🏻👏🏻
Takes me back, aaah the innocent days....
This seems to have evolved into the new old controversy of "parents leaving kids loose on TH-cam because they can't be bothered"
For a second I thought you would talk about that “other” hot coffee controversy
This video became relevant again
coffee ad right before the video. gotta love the timing...
And us Europeans shall continue to not give a single fuck.
I was waiting the next one of these was coming out.
Thanks for bringing up the problems with moral outrage on things like this.
However, I would like to point out that Australia now DOES have an R18+ rating for video games and Grand Theft Auto V was one of the first games to receive it.
It just never made sense to me.. Even as a 14 year old, I wondered why this was an issue in a game revolving around early 90s California gang culture
That was a brilliant history lesson. How far we have come since then...
Controversy ? More like cafafle
More like covfefe
Anyone else rewatching this after learning the “remaster” contained Hot Coffee?
I dropped everything to watch this
"Stop. Just generally stop." Greatest mock sign ever.
I’d say we’re going to get an episode with ‘GTA: Definitive Edition’ on the way am I right?
I go to mod websites and downloaded crap like that all the time "accidentally." I was totally a victim of the publisher.
you know bully was my first enjoyable sandbox game
i'm guessing they had to get real peaceful on them
Holy hell 3 years went by fast I remember when this came out
Watching these videos without audio is the weirdest shit ever
I love it when he does these kinds of videos.
Rockstar being the cheeky devils they are, got back at Hilary and paid homage to the mod in their next game.
If you look at the "statue of happiness", the GTA version of "the statue of liberty" the face resembles that of a certain Hilary Clinton, holding a steaming hot coffee
The last part about the DCU made me go "DAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!!!" I didn't see that coming at all. lol
WHAT YEAR IS IT?!
