Next up on our Colorado City Walks road trip, we take you around as we explore Greeley Colorado. I was really impressed with Greeley. I hadn't been here before but I'd seen it on the map and assumed it was primarily a cattle ranching and processing city but it's a proper big city. I loved the historic downtown including the big courthouse and wound my way down and around just outside of downtown. It was a beautiful fun day to be out walking and filming a virtual walking tour.

Nice video, I really enjoyed watching it. I stayed in greeley from september 1982 until april 1986. When i was there, the population was only around 60,000. Wow, now it is 110,000. I frequented James A Michener library a lot, almost on a daily basis since my degree program at UNC required me to use a lot of materials at the library, including microfiche and microfilm. I spent a lot of time around the vicinity of 8th Avenue and 16th Street, hence your video has brought back sweet memories of the surrounding area in that part of greeley. I m in my early 60s now, 40+ years have gone by. Thank you for making this video available for us to see

As an international student from Malaysia, my experience at UNC was an eye opener, because at 18 when I first enrolled at UNC, it was such at a v young age. The faculty was top notch with many lecturers having PhD or DBA. And Greeley offers a unique living experience. I went on to do my masters at a university in San Diego and I tell U honestly, I enjoyed living in Greeley more than the latter.

Nice to see Greeley on a calm, late Winter day. It's still great! I spent the whole month of June 2019 in a Summer course at Aims Community College and I could see a very vibrant city despite the schools were out and NCU were pretty empty. It was Stampede season, the city was pulsing I could see Colorado at its best. It would be great to watch other walks there during summertime showing the Friday Fest, the Art's Picnic on Sunday and the Centennial Park. Those were great experiences to me, a real foreign tourist!

Thank you for this video. Greeley is my Home town. I moved away a couple of years ago and have not been able to make it back.
The feed lots are far east of town and stink when the weather is hot and after it rains February was a great time for a walk without any feed lot smell.
Greeley is in Weld county witch is the largest County by land area in Colorado. That is one reason the Weld county court house is so big and extra.
The model railroad museum you walked by is one of the largest model railroads in the world.☺ thank you for a relaxing walk it was lovely.

Right next to that bean elevator is the greatest restaurant for breakfast! It’s called The Ranch!
Ug I wish I could edit, The Ranch is in a brick building that used to be a gas station/ garage. It’s near ( west) of the elevator. Of course with covid idk if it’s still open

Thanks for showing me another new place. You talk about light often, I assume as a filmmaker it's something you've really grown to appreciate. I will say that your narration fills a need for conversation I do not get while working in an office with only myself. My coworkers all work from home and my job has a fair amount of downtime, so I watch you between tasks, and get to hear conversation about things like art, books, nature, etc...topics I would hope to be talking about it if I weren't alone in an office for 8 hours. So, my sincere thanks for that. Hope you are well.
All is well here in MT. Yes, light is so important in visual arts and it can be so different between latitudes, seasons, and times of day, among other variables. It's a unique thing and can evoke memories similar to smell for me. So glad you enjoy these and the narration. In turn, I really enjoy your comments as well. Thanks so much. -H
@@CityWalks Thanks for that little dissertation on light. I looked back at some of my ubiquitous nature photos and realized I was making more use of light than I was aware of. You mentioned latitude, so me being an information junkie, looked up the latitude of Livingston and Burlington. I was surprised to find that Livingston at about 45.6 degrees is slightly north of Burlington at about 44.4 degrees. I assumed Burlington was further north since we are less than 40 miles from the Canada border, but it appears the US slopes north as you head west.

My Mother grew up near Greeley, (she’s in her 80’s now)back in the day, like many American towns, the downtown was the heart of the city. To the East of 8th Ave ( Aka Business Hwy 85) is the train depot. I think it’s now the Chamber of Commerce now) & in summer it hosts a big farmers market.
In my Mom’s day the downtown was packed & busy, the place to be.
The packing plant is North of downtown . Obviously the plant isn’t rendering , or you’d smell it.
The Greeley museum is the old Greeley Tribune newspaper headquarters . Just a little local trivia

Michener wrote "Centennial" and "Alaska" and others. "Centennial" was set in Weldona, CO. When I taught there, the fake store fronts were still up but have since fallen down. A lot of my students had grandparents who were in the film.

The feed lot is no longer north of town. Because of everyone complaining of the smell, Monfort feed lots split. One is east of Greeley east of Kersey, and the other is west of La Salle south of Greeley. So hardly any smell.
