That’s a nice one. I’ll have to look it up, and hope it works in ARD game system not just the one you are using. Im new to FoundryVTT and I’m curious how you make the light outside the cave and leak in some distance and stop. Looks like a nicely designed map
This is the video where we put the original light in: th-cam.com/video/4gNgi10S3f4/w-d-xo.html We turned off Global Lighting, and put a "daylight" light source outside, with the radius just bleeding into the cave entrance.
I'm thinking about getting Foundry VTT but I don't want to use tokens I have so many miniatures I just want to use them. How would the fog of war work?
We play face to face so is it easy to set it up so that it I control the lighting on my computer and then have it show up on another screen attached to my computer. Thanks in advance
That's an interesting question, and I don't know the answer... In Foundry, Fog of War seems to be only revealed by Token movement - remove them from the equation, and FoW is either on, or off. Reading your other comment too, the DM view is always visible, so no good for FoW stuff. You'd have to have a "player" logged in on the players view screen (so 2 screens, yes). But without a Token, I'm not sure that'll work. How about we try it? I'll play with that and upload a video today. I think I have a better solution (and a free one!)...
I once heard of special hardware, kinda token base/touchscreen mixture, which could provide such a function on a big flat TV. As I don‘t have the problem, I didn‘t dig deeper into it.
I had the same hesitation as you (I have a huge miniature collection) but I switched to tokens and I didn't look back. Minis are cool, but they also create extra clutter and work (at least for us). Just having tokens you can control makes it a lot easier. Note that we use the Imagehover mod, which shows a nice piece of character art when you select the token so you still get a feel of the character instead of just seeing a token. Our group uses a giant touchscreen. That will mean my players can control their own tokens through touchscreen and hopefully also their spell templates etc. We havent gotten it to work 100% but Im confident we will get there. Theres this video on TH-cam with someone controlling a touchscreen by just moving their miniature, so if you have touchscreen and still want to use minis that could also work.
Maybe to late, but u could use the simple fog addon and manually remove fog of war while your party is moving on. Alternatively u could use one token as an representative of the party's vision while still mainly using your minis.
Unfortunately, you can't change the emission degree of the light. So, you can't make a flashlight or other light source. I was really looking for something that allows control of the angle of the light. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. Thank you.
If you're using the D&D system, there's a few ways to do that - DAE mod can allow you to add effects/scripts to an item. Or clone one of Gambits' (GPS) Bullseye Lanterns and change to suit your needs - they work perfectly. Outside of D&D, not sure what's available, but I suspect there are solutions.
I like the torch and different vision modes, but I would like to have a easy way for a PC to switch mode. We play modern and Sci-fi games, and one of the gadgets they can use is night-vision goggles. I think it would be nice to be able to switch vision mode to activate those goggles in the same way as with the light add-on. The same is if you use spells, potions, or amulets which gives you dark vision or some other mode. Have any one done a module for that?
Which game system are you using? Because that will have a huge impact on your options. And I think you'd be looking for a Vision mod, rather than a lighting mod. For example, if I wanted to replicate Night Vision Goggles, I'd be creating an Item that when equipped provides the token with a custom Darkvision (but make it green-scale, rather than grey-scale).
@@clay_golem I use Twilight 2000, but we also play Delta Green. I have looked at vision mods but could not find any suitable so I cheat with the torch for now, because I don't know how to create an Item so I can provide vision.
Urgh. I know how to do it, but all the ways I know use mods that are D&D only. Vision is very much part of the game engine, and I don't know how T2000 does it.
The "Drop My Torch" module can be used to drop light sources from hand to ground. It works on its own or with the "Torch" module.
Oh nice. I've not encountered that one yet. Especially useful for placed lanterns etc. Thanks - I'll check it out.
Hi ClayGolem.
...watched every min with delight - thx a lot will install this right away.
Thanks for the run-down. Appreciate it!
