Did we watch the same match?! 🙂 It always amazes me how different perceptions can be. For me, the big picture here was style of play: the first half was so different from what we have seen under DM. Listening to Lopotegi & coaches urging players to run, move into space -create options and to press was exciting for me. While the execution wasn't always perfect, and there were clangers (has Mavrapanos taken up meditation, cos he was on another planet) Lop and co were generally happy -supporting and egging on players. I felt the second half was more akin to what we have done - sit back and play sideways passes in defence. Primarily that tempo was established by Zouma -who can't run with pace, so has to stay back. Felt Earthy was refreshing - puts himself around, finds space and never stops probing. Lopotegi and the coaches were frequently shouting "Vamos" (Come on!) at the players in the second half, wanting more movement and pressing. Still, I liked what I saw, the result was unimportant for me. I am encouraged! 🙂
I couldn’t hear Lopetegui or his coaches as was listening to the watch along since it was the newbies first outing, which should explain why I’ve not referred to him but that’s why I was looking forward to his post match interviews etc
The second half sideways is what I expect a lot of next season as seen that a lot at Wolves, I don’t mind it as long as it’s a trap
Danny ings disappointed me since he signed but he looked like he had a new bit of life in him today along with a few others which i enjoyed
Not a bad match we bounced back showed grit and determination, slightly annoyed at some of our passes very sloppy? but I'm gonna chalk it off to preseason and new coach/style of play. It'll take Lopetegui time to implement how he wants the squad to play so we all gotta be patient, i did enjoy watching the youngsters playing that lifted my spirits and to see Ings and Aguerd make a impact on the game so hopefully they can kick on also? I thought it was an interesting, rather than exciting, game to watch. The extended waterbreak statue scene aside.
It was what I expected overall, takes time to develop a new understanding around the new styles of play. A draw was fair, they were decent and it was a test. Just what it was supposed to be.
I was happy enough at the end factoring in all the changes.
If it makes you feel any better geo I watched it on TH-cam and it wasn't until the second goal went in I noticed the scoreline, despite the commentator saying it was 1-0 😂😂

Squad modes of play, the identity change, has started -it's turning like an oil tanker. J-Lo style will take time to bed in.
That team has been training for a month and they are in the Champions League. But we were very rusty.
Earthy And Potts impressed ,as did Orford, but our new Brazilian looked a little lost, early days though

Earthy looked good - Zouma still literally cannot pass a ball without it bobbling, being short or just off - Aguerd looked good on the ball
I was at work, keeping tabs on the watch along. Haven’t seen the Ings chance but sounds like he was the right place at the right time, kept his head, sent the keeper the wrong way and hit the post from a rightish angle? The sort of shot Antonio shins into row z. Maybe a bit harsh on him after 45mins of the first preseason?

@@HammersChat he’s a hammer, he did very well at Southampton, however doesn’t mean he won’t do a good job at West Ham. The argument within the fan base about “Downes is Championship level”. Is Ludacris Bowen, Antonio, cress.. list goes on how well we are good at getting these players and making them premiership level. I remember fans saying Downes was excellent during his short spell under Moyes & done more than Soucek who is more established than Downes in the premiership. But now Downes is getting the wrong criticism from our fan base. (I am not saying people are not entitled to their opinions). But sometimes people talk nonsense. Another thing which is annoying is how Ings & Corent want to fight for their position BUT Downes has to be sold. We already had a RB in Johnson, it’s about how we handled the situation imo. Now gotta spend money on a championship player in KWP. Ben Johnson is a good player but got stick about being championship level, but we are interested in a championship level player in KWP. The logic/argument doesn’t really make that much sense to me. Downes is a West Ham fan & isn’t entitled to stay at West Ham but I would say he does have a right to fight for his place.
I might be a little sentimental, when it comes down to our Academy & West Ham fans who are players but end of the day imo again it feels like since the move, since Noble retired it feels like we are losing the family feel, it feels like we are losing our identity on the pitch especially 41 (Judas) leaving us. Dunno maybe I am wrong but just wanna feel like we are all “WEST HAM UNITED”. All the nonsense with Moyes in or out is all done now and hopefully under Jlo, we can shine and make a real good go of his time here.
But yeah all that nonsense about players been championship level or premiership level is nonsense to a certain extent, however, some players do deserve a chance to at least showcase what they are all about. Downes won me over during his 20/30 games. Bowen, Mikey & Cress all did fantastic things.

A large part of me is hoping (possibly assuming) Lopetegui has decided and is in agreement to shift Downes, as you say, for KWP to come in.

We sign a brazilian child for 25mill and sell the best player in the championship for 18 million, our squad is wafer thin and the players we are linked with (walker peters,duran etc) are miles off the required quality for a club which has a mission statement of "competing with the big boys" .
Throw in the concessions scandal,the outrageous game by game new pricing and I am just as disillusioned by west ham than i was under moyes
I thought the commentator was useless. With a load of unfamiliar players on the pitch I could have done with a lot more in-play identification. I'm not sure he knew who some of the West Ham players were.
