I'm in Love with my new KALA KA-B which arrived yesterday! I own 2 other KALA's. Nice instruments. Those are all beautiful. Thanks for sharing! I like shopping with you.🦋
Thanks Alex, liked the sound of the baritone. Do like the headstock and Having started with a Kala it does look like they are stepping up. Have a great week.
Hello wonderful person! Thanks for the awesome explanation, this channel came up in my recommended and I don't think anyone else is doing the important work that you do.
I was looking on your site today for larger size Tenors. It was hard to find them together to compare. Can I suggest you have in the size drop down menu, large Tenor. Would be so much easier as they seem to have different names for the larger body.
Great video. I have the Kala ST Ziracote. Tension is higher and therefore it is not as comfortable to play in my estimation. What do you recommend for low G strings. Do i need baritone strings? Thanks for your help
Great video! Love hearing about new ukes. Despite their pedigree I feel like Kala were starting to get left behind in recent years. Great to see them releasing something new and different! That spruce/ziricote model stood out for me. So, the XL tenors have the wider nut width but I'm assuming they still have kala's typical chunky, rounded neck profile?
I did not feel that the depth or roundness of the neck was chunky on the XL's. proportionately, the neck is not the same as a standard Kala but I think that is quite subjective.
Great video!! What kind of strings could one use with the XL tenors? The same as on a regular tenor? Can you use low or high G string sets? Also, any suggestions about the best strings for the XL tenors? Thanks!!!
Normal Tenor or baritone strings are fine depending on the tuning. I would personally recommend a soft tension uke logic set for best results and tension.
Hi Alex, I enjoyed this video.🙂 Your description of the XL Tenors has left me a bit confused. You said the Kala XL tenors have 18" Scales. Kala lists them as 18.875" which is 18 7/8" or just under 19" not an 18" scale which Kala would actually make as a 17 7/8" scale as Kala nearly always shortens its ukulele scales by around 1/8" under normal scale lengths. Its Standard Tenors are actually 16 7/8" not 17". So which is correct? Are the XL Tenors just under 19" like Kala lists them or have they been changed to just under 18" without Kala updating the specs on the web site?🙂
Il correct the listings tomorrow... I don't actually use inches for anything other than this one measurement so I think I probably got 18 inches in my head and forgot to double check.
Alex, Hope you are doing well. Was considering purchasing the mahogany or the zircote. Prices here in the US are $400.00 for zircote and 350.00 Mahogany new. Is there a you you could recommend that maybe a little above the price point that would be superior to the zircote? It doesn’t need to be a Kala. Thanks for the great reviews!
Interesting to compare Kala Skyline series with Pono. The one big difference though, is that each Pono has a truss rod?? Other observable differences upon the first look???? (correct me if I am wrong) - The neck profile of Kala seems a bit thinner than Pono? - Kala offers a padded gig bag while Pono only offers a thin, basic bag?
Thanks for commenting. The necks are identical between the Pono and these Java made Kala's although some Pro Classics have a radiused fingerboard and the Kala Skyline (now named Metropolitan) series Tenors and Baritones have truss rods, it just wasn't something I felt the need to mention in the video as current Kala Baritones above the standard KA-B etc have a truss rod anyway. Secondly, the Pono pro classics usually come in a woodshell hard case, the bag the Kala's come with are of a similar quality and price.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore I was a little confused when I cannot find the name "Skyline" but "Metropolitan" in the Kala 2022 catalogue.... Metropolitan seems a bit of a mouthful though, just my personal opinion. But it's the product quality that matters.
I did order the ziricote/pruce two days ago... i would like to try high G with fluorocarbon strings, what kind of strings should i use Alex? I mean do i have to use some with the same tension ?
I liked the shape of the trembesi baritone. I wish they made an affordable tenor version xD Thanks for sharing :D PD. I have a question about super tenors... is it possible to use high G strings with them?
I guess I just have to say it. I really really do not like the new plain common look of this solid headstock on the KALA’s. I like everything else about them, but this just sort of turns me away from it. But I really really do like the slotted headstock.
They are absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
When I checked out the Kala showroom at GNUF I was SO tempted to buy their cedar-topped baritone, it was truly wonderful!

Wow, the spruce zircote sounds incredible.
I agree, whole vid was worth watching for that one
Nice sound from the XL.
I like this video very much 💕
The second, spruce top and ciricote body get my vote for sure. Thanks for a splendid review ❤

I like the Skyline!
I was going to say the Mahogany was my pick but then you played the Cedar, that one is a beaut 👌
I have both and can never decide which I like more lol they're both beautiful instruments
Love your vids, they are incredibly useful, and I was waiting to find a review of the new baritone!
Very nice, all of em lol... Nicely played too, thank you 👍

I've found the aquila reds low g to be my fav. I think they have less tension / better feel also..
Was planning on the Mahogany Super XL but the Spruce sounds great . . .
Same here. I tuned it DGBE and it's so nice...
Can’t wait for next years KT-PERY-R2D2-EP VI ROTJ models to be released
Kala I kid love you, always a fan of seeing some totally new models

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Thank you so much!! Happy Holidays!!
Good 🙏🙏
How does that Trembesi tenor compare to Kala's Contour Acacia tenor? I've seen the reviews, but how would you stack them up head to head?
The contours are a lot cheaper but much much better I won't be restocking the metropolitan series.
Do you know if the new Kala XL is the same thing or even a newer version of the Kala super tenors they sell here in the U.S.?
Same thing.
Not much of a Kala fan , but they look good 👍
What song are you playing on the XL at 840?
Hoping Kala will make a Baratone in their Elite series, must have spruce top
Anyone know how the Kala ST spruce top uke sounds with a high g string instead of the low g?
I tried it, but quickly changed back. The large body and spruce really long for a low G. Even better in DGBE IMHO.

Very nice ukulele but not one was a plug in 😢

I'd stick to something normal tension like Worth CT, Martin M620 or Uke Logic S-HG-P

Matt Warnes sure looks like Brad Pitt.
Waist like your Ex girlfriend 🤣🤣🤣! Really like the spruce Super Tenor!
Finally something different from Kala, their usual line-up feels pretty stale and outdated :)
