the leg surgery is actually more harmful than using hormones. If you take hormone blockers before 18, and change your mind to remain cisgender, you can just stop taking the blockers and your body returns to normal after a few months. Even if you do take extrogen for years, for example, and decide to detransition, you can take testosterone to revert the process and it will do it in just like 6 months or so. transitioning hormonally is not a big fuzz at all. Surgeries like mastectomies or to mimic a vulva are another discussion.

I kinda feel Pyro in how his childhood went, I always wanted to play with my sister's Barbie dolls and also watched the Barbie movies because I genuinely found them fun, alongside other female traits I showed - even my mom expected me to be a girl at birth but I turned out a boy and skip ahead many years later here I am, couldn't be further from wanting to be a girl, because I just don't identify with those things anymore. But because my mom is very supportive but not pushy, I also believe I had a verygood development into understanding myself and still accepting others, if they *do* identify as something else than what they physically are.

My main argument in terms of being pro transition even for minors is that the majority of research indicates that it leads to a lessening of suicidal ideation, resulting in less suicide attempts, considering trans individuals are more at risk of being driven to kill themselves I think it's irresponsible to deny them potentially life saving medical care. For me, I'm against the idea of people transitioning without thorough mental health evaluation. I believe they should see a mental health professional or psychiatrist first rather than immediately opting for physical changes. It might just be an impulsive thought or insecurity. Like me 75-80% of my online purchases are impulsive decisions made when I'm in the bathroom but luckily they are not life changing. Maybe they just need some help from professionals who can provide a different perspective, because regret can come later.

I do not know what country you are in, but in most of europe, every trans person goes to a psychologist first before beginning treatment. Psychiatrists are often if not always included in trans healthcare. So I do agree with you, everyone should definitely think about it before undergoing a transition- such as only socially transitioning (stuff like getting a new haircut, changing your name/pronouns and getting new clothes) to see if they actually enjoy it and feel good being seen as the opposite gender. But comparing dysphoria- something that can genuinely lead to suicide- to impulse purchases is not a very good comparison. Though I am sure you have no ill intent! Banning or restricting trans healthcare would be ignorant, as only less than 1% of trans people actually regret performing a surgery, with only about 1-8% of people de-transitioning. Not to mention that "de-transition" as a word also proves in and of itself that it is possible to go back to your original gender, even if some parts of your body aren't the same.

Honestly, I can see Charlie halfway through the "debate" stop caring. That's happened to me before in irl gotcha-moments when I could see them grasping at straws and trying to turn my words against me, so I stopped caring in that moment.
I used to get into arguments with people a lot because I was in high school when same-sex marriage was legalized here, and I was(am) a huge ally. I remember at one point I was arguing with someone, and I felt myself detach because I thought the situation was so stupid.

I think the real maturity that should be focused on is not physical maturity but mental and emotional maturity. I look back at when I was 13/14 and sure i was physically mature but i was nowhere near mentally mature enough to be an adult. I kinda feel Pyro in how his childhood went, I always wanted to play with my sister's Barbie dolls and also watched the Barbie movies because I genuinely found them fun, alongside other female traits I showed - even my mom expected me to be a girl at birth but I turned out a boy and skip ahead many years later here I am, couldn't be further from wanting to be a girl, because I just don't identify with those things anymore. But because my mom is very supportive but not pushy, I also believe I had a verygood development into understanding myself and still accepting others, if they *do* identify as something else than what they physically are.

My main argument in terms of being pro transition even for minors is that the majority of research indicates that it leads to a lessening of suicidal ideation, resulting in less suicide attempts, considering trans individuals are more at risk of being driven to kill themselves I think it's irresponsible to deny them potentially life saving medical care. Yes, there should be discussions with the parents and healthcare professionals, but a lot of trans people I've heard from knew they were trans well before entering adulthood, I don't believe in enforcing misery on people and that's what blocking transitioning does
What you’re suggesting is completely changing a child’s hormones appearance all for the chance it might make them feel less sad. I will not and will never advocate for experimental therapy to be used on children. Any doctor who would conduct said surgery’s or hormone treatments on children should be removed of their license.

For me, I'm against the idea of people transitioning without thorough mental health evaluation.
I believe they should see a mental health professional or psychiatrist first rather than immediately opting for physical changes. It might just be an impulsive thought or insecurity. Like me 75-80% of my online purchases are impulsive decisions made when I'm in the bathroom but luckily they are not life changing.
Maybe they just need some help from professionals who can provide a different perspective, because regret can come later.
Wish more people would have this viewpoint. In the UK this is how gender dysmorphia is treated. Puberty blockers are also not given due to insufficient evidence pertaining to their efficacy. In fact, physical changes usually aren't permitted until the age of 16.

The group acknowledged potential risks but said it is unethical and harmful to withhold early treatment.
I do not know what country you are in, but in most of europe, every trans person goes to a psychologist first before beginning treatment. Psychiatrists are often if not always included in trans healthcare. So I do agree with you, everyone should definitely think about it before undergoing a transition- such as only socially transitioning (stuff like getting a new haircut, changing your name/pronouns and getting new clothes) to see if they actually enjoy it and feel good being seen as the opposite gender. But comparing dysphoria- something that can genuinely lead to suicide- to impulse purchases is not a very good comparison. Though I am sure you have no ill intent!
Banning or restricting trans healthcare would be ignorant, as only less than 1% of trans people actually regret performing a surgery, with only about 1-8% of people de-transitioning. Not to mention that "de-transition" as a word also proves in and of itself that it is possible to go back to your original gender, even if some parts of your body aren't the same.

Because de-transitioning is not a good solution if they've already undergone surgery. As Pyro said, this is life changing.
