Very important reminders. Thanks Sonia! This is something we sometimes overlook especially when we go back to our home country and stay with our relatives, thinking that they're our relatives anyway. But even then, it's still essential that we show respect to them and always communicate. Don't forget to show some gratitude
i guess im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
Great video, Sonia! I spent the whole week as a guest at the home of a friend in South Africa and I kept asking myself what should I do to be a good guest. I'm relieved to have followed most of your tips. I'm definitely sharing this video.
I agree so much about gifting consumables. I do this for almost all gifts unless I have some very reliable information about the person that tells me they would want something else. It feels so presumptuous to hand someone an object and expect them to incorporate it into their life without knowing if they need or want it. I know that the person will be grateful but I don't want my gift to evoke feelings of clutter-stress or guilt (if they get rid of it.) I've never met anyone that was pissed off to receive wine or chocolate, though :)
no yes, I agree. I try to take note of wines, coffee or spirits in the house and get their favourite thing. I'm Dutch so cheese often works too. The only non-consumable thing would be a book, based in what I've seen in their home.
I do all of the mentioned things and I also make sure to send a thank you postcard when I get home or from my next location saying how much I enjoyed staying over. People really like receiving a card it seems, I always get very enthusiastic responses back by email.
This is your best video ever ;) I've been watching your videos obsessively lately and even though I love them all, this one was funny and yet, super useful !
Hi Sonia, are you supposed to tip at an all-inclusive resort where tips are supposedly built into the cost? If so, what is the appropriate amount so you are not being obnoxious while also not being taken advantage of? Thank you for your videos they're very helpful to me planning my very first solo travel adventure!
I'm visiting my friend in Paris for Christmas and New Year's, and I'm so nervous about goofing it up! Especially since her parents don't speak English. Thanks for the tips!
+Kate D, Regard on your friend's parents who do not speak English, try your best to speak couple words or phrases in French. They will like you because you tried. I used this many times when I am in foreign soils.
So how does this work exactly? Do you ask a random person if you can stay with them or are there specific homes that you can go to and if so how do you find them?
When borrow vehicle, fill up the tank when return. If use house phone for a long distance call, put $5, $10 or $20(depend on the amount the usage) in an envelope with a note.
When Cousins came to visit they wanted things done there way hogging all the hot water by taking long showers despite there's other people in the house didn't want me to use the dishwasher to clean the dishes they think they're lame and a waste of time. I should tell me rules of the house no long showers, one shower a day,we use the dishwasher to clean the dishes among other things they complain how we run are house. Do you have any advice what should do and should I invite them back to my house if they can't follow the rules?
I wish I had this video playing when we had house guests last year! We have not had good luck with house guests. Very rude and disrespectful to our home and personally to my husband and I.
I always think leaving a thank you card is always a nice little touch.
I've been a bad guest but no more, thanks for your advice I will be good from now on : )
Bless you for this! This should be made into a Public Service Announcement and shown on tv's world wide!!
All these pieces of advice are common sense, but it is nice to have put them together! Thank you!
Very important reminders. Thanks Sonia!

Those are all good tips, but what if people don't know how to do those things? Some people are completely clueless.
