that's so awesome as a game engine ! can't wait until you add support for colors and some conditions for interactions like have different actions based on conditions.
Seems like something to get into. I hope there will be more to this program in the future. I think I may try this out, and maybe even put the rom on my LDK to see how that works out.
The idea is great, I just watched a bunch of video tutorials but the sample project alone after being built into a rom is 1MB, that's a lot of space for a GB game.
Right now I am developing my own game of game boy with this program, the problem is the type of game I want to program, I hope to find a solution little by little.
It's stunning how GBStudio had changed in just one year. Apparently you can now do GBC games in it, not to mention that it now supports platformer and shmup gameplay.
How did I find ur videos just now! I had to try to learn C to make my own gb games! This makes my life alot easier! Thank you for the video! Just subscribed
can you crate a video where you explain how to do menu's and how to output text and numbers to a on screen ui (top right corner (Score: 100)). that would help a lot
This is really cool, but a little too limited in the kind of game you can make... Here's hoping it gets more development so that more kinds of games can be made, as well as adding a tilemap editor, support for larger maps, for the GBC (in case you want to make a colour game), for animated tiles, palette-swapping, and maybe this is asking too much but I'd also love to see some scanline interupts going on, if all of that is achieved I'll be *all over* this software!
This program looks quick, simple, and intuitive, and the video explained it really well. I just wonder how good it is at making a game like Tetris? It looks really well suited for RPGs and stuff, but what about other styles?
I really love this program. It's super easy and fun to play around with. Is there anyway I can use those animal crossing sprites or tilesets? I really like the style of it.
I just saw this on itch.io and i thought about searching for a tutorial and then there you are, in my recommendations.. Thanks Mort! keep up the amazing content!
Thank you great video and very informative would love to see you work out more games in this space shooters, contra type games Mario clones, mother clone 😎
Looks like a cool and easy to use program. Looks quite similar to, but even easier than RPG Maker, actually, assuming you understand the limitations (which can really be a blessing sometimes for having to keep stuff simple). Some of the limitations do seem quite strange though. Two frames of animation per sprite direction? The Pokémon games worked on the original Gameboy all the way up until Crystal, which was the first Gameboy Color exclusive Pokémon game...but I'm pretty sure the original Pokémon Red, Blue, (+Green in Japan), Yellow, Gold and Silver all had more than two frames of animation for each of their overworld character sprites.
With the capabilities of the GBA and the SNES, it could be possible if one spent a good few years messing around. Unfortunately, if such a program existed, it would be very difficult to get into with the amount of memory available compared to the Gameboy. A drag and drop engine for the GBA or the SNES would be very limited unless you dabble in some assembly scripting (which is very hard, and something most romhackers aren't experienced in), if you know GBA, SNES, or probably just any assembly, then you will probably have some more customizability. You could always try making some homebrew by coding a rom yourself, just grab a compiler (for the GBA or SNES), some homebrew tools, and some programming knowledge (dependinding on what language the system uses for games) and you're good to go

You can make bigger games the same way a ps1 does. By making 2 games, and using the save file to carry over data. Many things are possible with this in hand. Graphically speaking, yeah you couldnt fit much, but many games can still be demakes of newer games in 2d. With nothing cut out if you use multiple roms.

I've seen a video of a Doom port for the NES that had the same 3D effect but the cartridge had to have extra hardware that was more powerful than the NES itself.
