The Kamov, Ka-52 Alligator is an all-weather combat helicopter created by the Kamov Design Bureau.
The Ka-52 is an upgraded version of The Ka-50 helicopter also known as Black Shark.
It is intended to strike low-speed air targets as well as armored and unarmored ground targets.
Most helicopters' main rotors rotate in a clockwise direction, which produces a torque or counterforce in the opposite direction.
In order to counter this rotational torque on the body of the helicopter, which reduces helicopter stability.
The helicopters use a tail rotor that provides the opposing force to push against the torque of the main rotor.
Because helicopters depend so heavily on their tail rotors, any failure of the tail rotor could result in the aircraft losing control and entering an uncontrollable spiral lead.
The coaxial rotor was one of many creative ideas created to fully omit the tail rotor. Helicopters with coaxial rotors have two rotors positioned one on top of the other.
They are driven by coaxial shafts connected to the gearbox.
The two rotors rotate in opposite directions.
The lack of a tail rotor frees the helicopter from needing to transmit torque to it, greatly simplifying the boom design because the torque created by the rotors is not acting on the body.
This makes the Helicopter very maneuverable and suitable for Attack helicopters and carrier base landing.
Due to the aerodynamic symmetry of the helicopter, it can conduct new sorts of combat manueuvres which are the benefits of the coaxial rotor design is enhanced thrust of the main rotor blades and high turn rate.
Combat maneuvers such as flat turns in the direction of the target, sideways motions at high speeds are less seen in heavily armored combat aircraft. one
and deep glides with a high pitch angle of up to 30 degrees or 35 degrees known as vortices are one of the main reason for the advantage of the Co Axial rotors

Some comments talking trash of this helicopter when they don’t realize it was more of an infrastructure and training problem and not the helicopter itself.
It performs on par to the Apache and using Ukraine as a reference point of these helicopter’s effectiveness is not a fair comparison given that this is essentially the first real world application to modern warfare between fairly modern nations.
People seem to forget that that air superiority is established with jets and bombers well before US forces deploy them hence why Russia had a hard time dealing with ground based anti-air. They failed to establish air superiority hence why KA-52 are getting shot down more often.
My team have recovered wrecked apaches littered the throughout the Middle East in a span of 25 years, and to say AH-64D/E are better than these in practice is a misleading comparison.
Thanks for the educational grace you have bestowed upon us.
Let's keep learning together.
And we have never mentioned Ukraine or Russia in this content.
The goal is to learn.
Well..all this information on this video, and your comments sounds good and all about the Alligator helicopter, makes it sound like a real good attack helicopter. But I don’t think Russian military technology is on par with the U.S. and the war in Ukraine just proves it. This Alligator is really crocodile if you ask me. They just can’t seem to avoid getting shot down. And the avionics is crap, the pilots have to use the GPS on their phones to fly to their targets, because the on board radar is so unreliable. Plus they don’t have the same level of support system like the Apache does. Nice informative video tho. And good to know Rob Ster.
Doubt you've recovered wrecks of Apaches lmao
@@Loubie2005 yes, they fail like any Mechanical machine
Give Apache helicopter to poorly train Russian pilot and you get the same results. The machine is not at fault, it's the humans and this is why Skynet will win
This is the best helicopter in the world so far.
As pro-Ukrainian I think this is the best helicopter in terms of survivability. It has one weaker point compared to Western helicopters. However, I think Western avionics are supreme. Can see opponents sooner and missiles are pinpoint accurate. But a single manpad can take a apache down. Only defense is what it is equipped with, anti-air stuff.
Good enough to occasionally destroy incoming missiles. But not strong enough to dominate enemy territory.
@@jeffp2935rong. Russian ka-52s fires also from a distance and we seen how badass this helicopter did in the ukrianian your generals incompetent strategy of counteroffensive that ended in a biggest failure of modern military century. All you are saying is western helicopters have better electronics. Slightly yes but rest in maneuvers, maintenance, firepower, reconnaissance, survivability ka-52 is sure surpasses apache and it's best helicopter in the world
Agreed. The aircraft has proven itself in a real war against competent opponents and weapons ( as opposed to the Apache shooting at mountain dwellers with AK 47s )
@@alexnderrrthewoke4479 no wonder a lot of them got shot down.
@@user-ez2xp6qp3m so? All ka-52 pilots got saved. Plus they can still fly being hit. Also they updated ka-52s so it's even more difficult to shoot down. Why you barely hear any being shot down?

@@Aitelly one mistake made, Ka52 is not one of few helicopters who have ejection seat it's the only one. Only Ka52 2seater and Ka50 1 seater have ejection seat.

the Ka also has first ever heli pilot eject seats, with blow panels on the rotors and glass, which is pretty cool.
"cool" is not the right word. I would say - "vital". pilots have a chance to escape, unlike 100% of those sentenced in Apache

Ka-50
In modern warfare, helicopters are consumables, regardless of the country. The reason is the dominance of systems for hitting air targets over their protection system. In terms of avionics, the Ka-52 is the best combat helicopter in the world.
There is an optional active defence system for ka52 that can be installed as an external module. I know a few episodes when a single ka52 has been attacked with multiple manpads and most of missiles have been neutralised by this module. I guess it blinds it or something.
We call it just “the best attack helicopter in the world”😊
We are now finally seeing the best these KA-52's have to offer during Ukraine's offensive, they have been stalking whole NATO equipped columns undetected and without taking losses in months. There was even a video going around of a KA-52 STILL flying fine after its whole tail section was ripped off, truly showcasing the benefits of the coaxial blades
2022: Western tanks are a game changer. They are designed to resist Soviet weapons.
2023: Anyone else remember what an unexploded Leopard and Bradley look like?
I thought Russians have no weapons and only have scrap metals
The tail fell off exactly as the KA-52 dropped the external fuel tanks. Extreme vibration and poor maintenance. High Resolution video from Pilot following in formation
@@alexchristensen9712 no, read carefully what the author of the original video wrote
@@alexchristensen9712the tail was shot off by an anti aircraft missile. Informs your self before looking like an idiot.
Perfectly modeled.
According to official data. The latest upgrade (Ka-52M) has a new radar with a fixed AFAR on 640 receiving and transmitting modules that detects a bridge-type target at a range of up to 100 kilometers, a destroyer-class ship - 150 kilometers, and air targets - at a range of up to 50 kilometers. At the same time, the new radar weighs 10 kg less than the "Crossbow" - 120 kg instead of 130. The new radar also has the ability to detect helicopters in hover mode at a range of up to 20 kilometers.
Also, the authors did not mention LMUR, the footage of the first use of which in a combat situation was made public last year.
An interesting fact is that when working on infantry, the Ka-52 is often used as a flying MLRS (the helicopter lifts its nose up and releases unguided missiles along a ballistic trajectory).
They also have new anti-tank missiles with a 12-15km range.
In June 2023 one of Ka-52 "Alligator" was hit by Ukrainian MANPAD and the tail stabilizer was destroyed completely. Nevertheless the crew managed to bring it back home safely. Apache AH-64 with this kind of damage would have go down immediately.
Exactly!! I saw the footage!!! If that was the apache, it would have been destroyed from such a hit!
10 years ago, there were heated debates on the Internet between supporters of the Mi-28 and Ka-52 platforms. Supporters of the Mi-28 responded to this argument that the coaxial scheme has a danger of overlapping screws during intensive maneuvering.
@@user-nw7ii5yf2n как всегда реальный бой показал, что соосная система превосходит Ми28, хотя дорогая в производстве. Ми-28 дешевле, зато Ка-52 намного эффективнее уничтожает укро-нацистов

It's too low for high-explosive fragmentation: a tank's armor can't be penetrated, a pillbox can't be destroyed. Moreover that missile flies very slooowly: up to 230 m/s.

It's also worth noting that tandem bladed helicopters are somewhat quieter because the two rotors end up canceling out some of the noise generated by the other. So by the time you do hear the vehicle it's going to be quite a bit closer than you'd expect it to be.
This is not tandem; it's coaxial. An example of a tandem design is the CH-47 Chinook.

There is no point in comparing the KA-52 with the AH-64. There is no reliable data on on-board electronics, optics and radar. In fact, these are just platforms for launching ATGMs. Russian ATGMs fly faster and farther. The American ones, I believe, have better guidance. But the KA-52 has more systems that allowed the pilot and the weapons operator to survive.

There is a loss of thrust on the lower blades caused by the turbulent air from the top blades. This is a really cool helicopter.
@@Vlad_Shv No. The lower blade is not taking in clean air. That makes it less efficient. Blades or wings that take in dirty air are less efficient every single time. That's what rotor wash is. It's dirty air.
At a certain speed depending on the aircraft the torque is countered not just by the tail rotor but the airflow over the tail itself just like an airplane, at low speeds it is certainly needed but at speed you can lose tail rotor control as long as it is feathered and still fly straight and also land, this is why many civilian helicopters have the rotor completely inside the tail itself...fyi

The Russian attack helicopters piloted by Ivan in Ushankas destroyed several hundred of Western tanks and armoured vehicles, including the Leopards.
"Several hundred western tanks" - blabla! There are not even such amounts operating in Ukraine right now. You tell the same nonsense as the Soviet propaganda leaflets during the 1943 Battle of Kursk that told Germans to give up because "hundreds of Tiger and Panther tanks have already been destroyed" with the number of tanks stated being higher than the total amount of them having been built at the time.
but the counteroffensive is really stopped and Western equipment really suffered in large quantities😅
@@einundsiebenziger5488 Really? There were 50+ Tigers and about 250+ Panthers at Kursk! Not to mention Sturmpanzer and Ferdinand, Elefant etc. My Stepfather was at Kursk driving a SDKfz. Panzergrenadier. He saw the rows of Panthers... Also 5 Bradleys destroyed in a picture from the front and Ukrainazis say they only lost 2 of them - Tells you where the lies are made. MISTER SOFA EXPERT!

I saw the automatic anti rocket protection system in action when Wagner shot a missle at a KA52 and just a fraction of a second before the rocket could hit the helicopter deployed a bunch of flares and divertet the missile into the void. What a scene. Probably you can find it somehwere online.
Amazing info on this beast. One of the best i have seen re any military aircraft. Great Job!
the 9k121 whirlwind missile has a range of 10-12 km and not 8 km. Also, penetration behind dynamic protection is 1200-1300 mm and without dynamic protection 1300-1400 mm, depending on the type of missile, there are several options, including high-explosive fragmentation warhead and thermobaric. Early missile samples had penetration of 1000 -1200mm then they were improved bringing the penetration to 1300-1400. In addition, the rocket is supersonic and flies quickly, given the 12km launch range, the flight time is about 12 seconds
in the same way, the ATTACK missile has more than 800 mm penetration, in addition, there was an upgrade and increased penetration even more, and the launch range also seems to have been raised to 10 km
the Vitebsk defense system is incredibly cool. fully automatic. detects missile launches at a helicopter, warning pilots by voice and even indicates the type of air defense used against the vehicle. it also automatically fires heat traps. moreover, it is even capable of burning a thermal imaging matrix on a rocket. There is also electronic warfare that interferes in the radio wave spectrum, which also affects the air defense of missiles operating on radio wave guidance on a target, and moreover, the electronic warfare system is capable of jamming radars due to which the enemy sees more than one on his radar ka-52 and a dozen targets. That is, it creates false targets, due to which air defense systems with radars can shoot at non-existent targets. incredibly effective. So much so that the commanders forbid Ukrainian soldiers to shoot from MANPADS at the Ka-52, since the protection system is capable of repelling several missiles fired at the same time (as far as I heard 18 missiles were reflected at once during the tests) in general, try to shoot down a Ka-52 helicopter from one or even several MANPADS -52 is almost impossible and you will only give out your position, so the Ukrainians almost stopped shooting at the Ka-52. because of this protection system, the ka-52 was often used to escort other helicopters such as mi-8 mi-17 mi-24, that is, a group of helicopters flies and the ka-52 covers Vitebsk nearby with a system.
