  • Asimina Triloba, the American Paw Paw fruit is one of my most coveted and "mystical" fruit that I have yet to taste until now! Regarded as North America's tropical fruit, I finally got invited by an awesome gentlemen that has grown this fruit tree since 1999 here in Amarillo, TX where I thought it was impossible due to our extreme four season weather. Watch with me as I knock off a bucket list of mine to finally taste a Paw Paw fruit and have Pete answered many of the questions that I have for him.

You two gentlemen should exchange fruits when harvest time. It will be fun to watch. ❤❤❤

The owner of the Paw Paw trees should try adding Ammonium-based fertilizers which will acidify soil. Scott’s lawn fertilizer are ammonia based nitrogen.

I've been trying grow Pawpaws in Lubbock for several years. Many failures. I finally have a small grafted Potomac and a Mango Pawpaw in their 3rd year and I too have noticed improvement from providing as much rainwater as I possibly can. This summer I have watered most mornings from rainwater tanks. They have basically been holding their own but look much better off for the next year. Wind, alkalinity and arid air are the enemies of Pawpaws here. The sun is also a little too intense. My 3 year old trees are very happy being under shade cloth.

How cool is it for you to have found this pawpaw guy!? They grow wild all throughout the Midwest, including here in Michigan. I tried twice to grow a group of three paw paw cultivars purchased from 2 different online nurseries. Both times they weren't far along enough to get established and survive our harsh winters, but we have orchards here so I could go buy some fruit to sample if I wanted. I totally gave up on growing them and I so I no longer am willing to go out of my way to try them, I'm still bitter about 6 trees dying I guess.

I hope you give it another shot at growing it! There's something about waiting patiently and having success picking that first fruit after many months and eventually years n years that is just so satisfying.

It never hurt to try! We get down to 0 or -2F once a year and they come back fine.

Hey Nat check this place out, they have one orange tree that will handle down to -28F , I have bought a few trees from them and they send out really nice looking trees that are ready to plant outside if the tree you ordered will handle the climate all year where you live, right now they only have citrus trees but he says in this video that they are going to have persimmon and pawpaws soon and more different fruit and I don't remember if he said nut trees too in the future, I thought this might interest you , I hope you guys are doing great..
