I absolutely loved old Stronghold 1, I played also Stronghold Crusader which was also very good, but too easy. But then Stronghold 2... it had potential to be also as great as 1st one, but the game felt unfinished. Knights were totally overpowered, skirmish was unplayable because AI was too stupid, they had unfinished castles and their attacks were poor (as in Crusader, but at least their AI quite worked). I did not played any other stronghold after that :-(
Personally I'd love a new Stronghold that used the old res graphics of the original games. I hate to see games suffer in quality in the name of newer graphics Give us something that feels like classic stronghold just with new content, Y'know? they ruined a bunch of games trying to improve graphics. like Desperados or Aoe3. I feel like strategy works best with isometric 2d. Something like Ck3, is fancy and all but a map could look like a flat map and I would still enjoy it, old games focused on content. Even FIFA 2003, 2004 was bad, despite looking much better, only 2005 was better looking and playable. With sports is different I guess, on a big timescale it wouldn't matter but people who like gameplay would choose a roster update over an engine update. But Aoe2 was revived for that reason, it was much better than the next games. same goes for Stronghold. I never really got into it, because it looked so much worse, while trying to look better and nothing else.
There's a new indie game in development called Earth of Oryn. It's probably not going to be exactly like Stronghold, but looks promising as a successor.
I honestly really like the Castle Sim elements of Stronghold 2. Mash that with the charm of the original voice actors of Stronghold 1/Crusader and the healing units of Crusader 2 and my dream castle game is basically complete honestly.

After Crusader they could never really recapture the magic of this series. A shame, they're superb games, one of a kind, and still hold up amazingly to this day in terms of graphics (the 2D sprites aged like fine wine), music, sound and playability.
You know, the very first from 2001 stands as one of the best RTS games I've ever played. It boggles my mind to no end how did they not manage to recapture the spirit of the game in all of their following games. And the new one, set in Asia ? WHAT ARE THOSE GRAPHICS and that style ? WHAT IN THE VUCK

Ok firefly, this is what we want in Stronghold Warlords: -Please make it a more gritty realistic looking instead of this cartoonish mobile looking game, please use less colors or at least use darker shades of the same colors -Please make it 2D instead of 3D -The space button is RESERVED for the lowered walls look like in Stronghold Crusader for nostalgia's sake, make any other button enter the Warlords screen. -Please NO unit squads/grouping like in total war, please make each unit produced as an individual unit (like in all old school RTSs) -The warlords system is iffy, reminds a bit of the estates system from Stronghold 2, not 100% on board for that one, might be better to scrap it and not take risks. You already experimented with similar systems like this in other titles and it was a feature most people did not want. Please, listen to your fans. Look, you already have the winning formula, the most legendary and successful titles are Stronghold 1 and Stronghold Crusader, we want a game with those game mechanics just in a new setting with the same graphics/look/atmosphere/gameplay but just slightly improved (for example like that new mechanic you put in of being able to chose whether single units can destroy walls or not. Btw. Good job on that one! That was a good choice.)
The first is the best.. its not all about grafhics...the music was amazing and it got you a lot in the game. a lot of details that denote love from the creators in what they did. for example: depending on the country where you're from, you played the campaign map with the map of that country. Quality is in the small details

I don't get how Stronghold Legends isn't everyone's favourite stronghold. It looked the best and was personally the most fun. There's a cap on the number of troops you can produce but I'd use gargoyles and keep converting enemy archers and expand my army indefinitely. It was so fun.
For me the issue with that game is that the single-player is very lackluster. Online/with friends it's great, but in singleplayer there's very few AI to choose from (only 6 comprising the whole roster, which is even more insulting when you consider the fact that you encounter 2 other fully voiced AI amidst the skirmish trail mode, yet can't play against them in custom skirmishes) and the AI design/skill level is quite weak--also, in 4 player free for alls, the AI tends to team up against the player even if they aren't formally assigned to the same team, which is annoying.
Stronghol 1 cause of the story, soundtrack and atmosphere and cruzader for the it all ❤️, I dont know how many hours of my life were spent playing this... Warlords seens to be good!

Stronghold, Warcraft 3, Age of Empires and Empire Earth have immensely strong similarities in gameplay style. There are to some extent small differences between them, however core gameplay remains similar meaning if a person enjoy playing one of these sorts of strategy games there's a strong possibility that they'll enjoy all of them. I haven't played every game in every series, i played most of Age of Empires series and Stronghold series but i'm assuming Warcraft and Empire Earth series remained the same or not? In Warcraft 3 and Age of Empires 1 the UI or HUD is big which is annoying because it takes up almost half the damn screen, however in Age of Empires Definitive Edition and Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition you are able to adjust the size of the UI which is brilliantly magnificent. Empire Earth and Stronghold which is first in the series has a small UI which is superb they definitely did it the proper way at it's commencement seeing those games are the first games in the franchise. In Empire Earth while a citizen is busy building a structure you slowly see the structure becoming larger and larger raising upwards until completion which is cool, in Age of empires and Warcraft 3 the foundation is laid the villagers built it, in Stronghold you simply place a building on the map there is no villager which construct buildings, that's why i say there's differences between all the aforementioned games, yet they are akin to each other. The first stronghold doesn't have skirmish mode but it was added in stronghold Crusader it's splendid. I enjoy all of these excellently superlative PC strategy video games.
Empire Earth lmao... I remember using "bam" cheat as a kid, pretending as time traveller/army from the future, and nuked their towns. And when they're in the bronze age i immediately created Zeus and the army of Pandora, pretending as a the punishment from Olympus lmao.

Quite liked stronghold but was always frustrated how small the maps were, I played some games where my archers were shooting at the enemy archers from each other's walls and towers, I'd like to see gigantic maps where you are able to expand and maneuver, also you couldn't zoom out very far to view your mighty fortress, all things that make me not want to revisit stronghold.
Stronghold 1 was my favorite but I also loved Stronghold 2's campaign and the free for all type of gameplay. Sadly ive never played Crusader and my PC with all my Stronghold games broke.. Update: about 6 months after posting this i got a laptop and the first thing i did was download stronghold 2 lol :D (edit posted 1 year after og comment)

I still play Stronghold: Deluxe on the old computer that I recently managed to fix. Crusader and crusader extreme were also played by me for years but unfortunately I lost both of them since they just straight up stopped working not long ago....... :(

Ok firefly, this is what we want in Stronghold Warlords:
-Please make it a more gritty realistic looking instead of this cartoonish mobile looking game, please use less colors or at least use darker shades of the same colors
-Please make it 2D instead of 3D
-The space button is RESERVED for the lowered walls look like in Stronghold Crusader for nostalgia's sake, make any other button enter the Warlords screen.
-Please NO unit squads/grouping like in total war, please make each unit produced as an individual unit (like in all old school RTSs)
-The warlords system is iffy, reminds a bit of the estates system from Stronghold 2, not 100% on board for that one, might be better to scrap it and not take risks. You already experimented with similar systems like this in other titles and it was a feature most people did not want.
Please, listen to your fans.
Look, you already have the winning formula, the most legendary and successful titles are Stronghold 1 and Stronghold Crusader, we want a game with those game mechanics just in a new setting with the same graphics/look/atmosphere/gameplay but just slightly improved (for example like that new mechanic you put in of being able to chose whether single units can destroy walls or not. Btw. Good job on that one! That was a good choice.)

The first is the best.. its not all about grafhics...the music was amazing and it got you a lot in the game. a lot of details that denote love from the creators in what they did. for example: depending on the country where you're from, you played the campaign map with the map of that country. Quality is in the small details

Stronghold legend was a nice concept but it didnt hold for long. Fun for a coupple of hours. Nothing one returned to.
Age of mythology atleast hade the same graphic as the other games.
Firefly should have impoved on its graphic that made their games iconic.

I don't get how Stronghold Legends isn't everyone's favourite stronghold. It looked the best and was personally the most fun. There's a cap on the number of troops you can produce but I'd use gargoyles and keep converting enemy archers and expand my army indefinitely. It was so fun.
stronghold 2001 and crusader are better
For me the issue with that game is that the single-player is very lackluster. Online/with friends it's great, but in singleplayer there's very few AI to choose from (only 6 comprising the whole roster, which is even more insulting when you consider the fact that you encounter 2 other fully voiced AI amidst the skirmish trail mode, yet can't play against them in custom skirmishes) and the AI design/skill level is quite weak--also, in 4 player free for alls, the AI tends to team up against the player even if they aren't formally assigned to the same team, which is annoying.
Stronghol 1 cause of the story, soundtrack and atmosphere and cruzader for the it all ❤️, I dont know how many hours of my life were spent playing this... Warlords seens to be good!

I like crusader more because the grassy area itself becomes a resource of sorts so it is way more competetive.

For me the game looks much better in 2D than in 3D.
My favourite is the original Stronghold. The ambience and music is great. When the Gregorian chant kicks in you know you're in trouble.

Stronghold, Warcraft 3, Age of Empires and Empire Earth have immensely strong similarities in gameplay style. There are to some extent small differences between them, however core gameplay remains similar meaning if a person enjoy playing one of these sorts of strategy games there's a strong possibility that they'll enjoy all of them. I haven't played every game in every series, i played most of Age of Empires series and Stronghold series but i'm assuming Warcraft and Empire Earth series remained the same or not? In Warcraft 3 and Age of Empires 1 the UI or HUD is big which is annoying because it takes up almost half the damn screen, however in Age of Empires Definitive Edition and Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition you are able to adjust the size of the UI which is brilliantly magnificent. Empire Earth and Stronghold which is first in the series has a small UI which is superb they definitely did it the proper way at it's commencement seeing those games are the first games in the franchise. In Empire Earth while a citizen is busy building a structure you slowly see the structure becoming larger and larger raising upwards until completion which is cool, in Age of empires and Warcraft 3 the foundation is laid the villagers built it, in Stronghold you simply place a building on the map there is no villager which construct buildings, that's why i say there's differences between all the aforementioned games, yet they are akin to each other. The first stronghold doesn't have skirmish mode but it was added in stronghold Crusader it's splendid. I enjoy all of these excellently superlative PC strategy video games.
Even rise of nations (RON) plays just like those and is ofcourse different in its own way. I wish we returned to a golden era of rts games.
Empire Earth lmao... I remember using "bam" cheat as a kid, pretending as time traveller/army from the future, and nuked their towns.
And when they're in the bronze age i immediately created Zeus and the army of Pandora, pretending as a the punishment from Olympus lmao.
I wish, Stronghold HD and Crusader HD will get an updated version my god, the best rts ever for me, but devs doesn't understand that they are the best strongholds
Quite liked stronghold but was always frustrated how small the maps were, I played some games where my archers were shooting at the enemy archers from each other's walls and towers, I'd like to see gigantic maps where you are able to expand and maneuver, also you couldn't zoom out very far to view your mighty fortress, all things that make me not want to revisit stronghold.
Stronghold 1 was my favorite but I also loved Stronghold 2's campaign and the free for all type of gameplay. Sadly ive never played Crusader and my PC with all my Stronghold games broke..
Update: about 6 months after posting this i got a laptop and the first thing i did was download stronghold 2 lol :D

stronghold crusader is best strategy game ever. because you can build fast, army train fast, fights fast, mechanics so easy to play,simple menu,you can use everything so simple. but other strategy games are so slow. in stronghold crusader, you can build your castle in 3-5 minute. and you ready to war. but other strategy games , you need upgrade everything for war. its means 30 minutes need to war. thats why stronghold crusader is best.

Crusader 2 has best co-op because you can have 2 players control 1 castle. (1 player does economy,the other does military) My personal opinion at least.
