Fantastic demo of an epic bit of kit !! The sky's the limit with what you could do with it. I'm not an angler but I somehow thought I'd see some Carp. Anyway rig it up to be a trawler and do away with the rods !! Down the pub and come back to some fish. Just a non fisherman's thought !!
This looks awesome! Exactly the sort of thing I need for my bait boat. The other day I thought I’d only just got the boat under a tree but I was meters under when I walked around and looked. Nowadays is it better to use go pro, fishspy etc? I know the range on fish spy is limited to 60 metres, on iphone. Range finders are supposed to get you 100 metres but there’s a lot of people saying they don’t work.
Thanks for getting back to me Dave. Can't express how impressive it is. I've managed to pick up a pre made hull for £35 as of this morning but it will need some modification and you have given me some great ideas. Would you mind if I came back to you for any more advice?
I was just looking for that answer through your videos how you mix reverse as I thought them pumps are somehow reversible. It appears that only 2 pumps are driving forward and even when I can't tell the speed by OSD, looks like there's enough speed for this beauty. I'll build one at some point and yours has some brilliant ideas for inspiration, I wouldn't have considered using pumps as a drivetrain:)
hi dave love this boat with all the tech espicaly the under water can could you do another just with the underwater cam only and standard front and rear light if so how much mate
Hi Jason, cheers mate! The boat is hand built from scratch so it took quite a while to build, as such, I don't make them to order or anything like that. Sorry mate.
no problems mate is a fantastic boat as your probley fed up of hearing lol i dont mind building one myself but i wunt know where to start i know id make it out of fiberglass but the runing gear and cams used to film the under water footage is the best ive ever seen as is a awesome idea, would you share your idea how you did it please
Cheers mate!! Yeah, you could do it with any boat. You'd need to cut a hole in the hull for the camera though. You'd need a camera, a video transmitter, a video receiver and something to view it on. I use a cheap 12v LCD TV.
Do you think it would be possible to make a simpler version of this, same pumps, cameras etc but basic shape/hull etc? Id love to make one but am not exactly wealthy! Just wondering if it could be done at a reasonable price?
Hi dave could you tell me which monitor/tv your using looks really bright and clear need one for my set up was gunna get a 7 inch fpv monitor but would like freeview too and a sd or usb slot to watch videos.thanks
Hi Dave I'm in the process of planing to make my own bait boat using pumps like yours..my question is how to you get the 4 pumps to mix when you got in to reverse?
Hi Richard, you have two pumps in each of the hulls (if you're making a catamaran) one facing forwards and one facing backwards (so 2 facing forwards and 2 facing backwards......if you're making a catamaran). You are then going to need a speed controller for each hull for forwards and reverse on the 2 pumps (so 2 speed controllers if you're making a catamaran). You could either have each speed controller assigned to 2 channels and use it 'tank drive' or mix the 2 channels to operate off one stick on the transmitter. You can do this with either an RC mixer in line between the two speed controllers and the receiver or use a custom mix programmed into your transmitter. I have a Spektrum DX6, which I programmed the mix into. Hope this helps!
les cooke Hi Les, it’s electrical noise. I’d try putting a low ESR capacitor on the power in (so across the positive and negative wires where the battery(s) connect to the boat) and then add an LC filter between the camera and the video transmitter. Have a look on eBay for an LC filter, there are loads on there, they’re really cheap and will help no end. Just make sure you get one that handles the current your camera draws. 1 amp should be ample.
@@lescooke1982. Hi Les, sorry for the delay, it's just a really old Chinese OSD, I don't even think it's branded. There are loads out there nowadays and a lot better than that one. Ones that are configurable so you can display whatever you like really. Have a look at getting an iNav control board, you can run your boat's ESC's from it, configure custom mixes, configure your OSD, set up GPS all using the iNav configurator. It's what i'm currently doing with my boat. Hopefully they'll release an iNav version soon where you plan missions using the GPS so you can keep taking your boat back to the same spot.
Hi Dave How did you mount your pumps in to your hull I'm using the seaflo 1100 ghp pumps but I'm a little bit stuck on how you seal the inlet part down into the hull if you get what I mean.
Firstly, I used Rule pumps but I think they're a similar model to the Seaflo pumps. Step 1) Get rid of the blue strainer / filter things. At the inlet end of the pump, there were 4 holes about 2.5mm in diameter. I tapped M3 threads into these so I could bolt the pump to something (obviously, these will be plastic threads so don't over tighten them, they're just used to either Loctite some screws to the pump). Step 2) I made some flanges out of 6mm Perspex and bolted these to the pump using the 4 tapped holes I'd made. I then siliconed round the flange and pump to ensure this was water tight. I used some silicone sheet I brought off eBay (1.5mm thickness) as a washer to ensure a water tight fit when bolting them to the hull. The pumps are fitted dry to my boat so if one goes wrong, I can just take it out and replace it. Alternatively, you can do what Angling Technics do and just do Step 1 above and bolt the pumps directly to the bottom of the boat (using the 4 tapped holes) and then just silicone round the bottom of the pumps and the hull to ensure a water tight fit. I made mine replaceable because I run them at a voltage which is not recommended and didn't know if they would be able to handle it but they seem to handle 16v quite nicely.
Nice boat dave am in the process of making a boat for my self I also am using 4 pumps but not to sure on speed controllers Any info would be a real help
Thanks Charlotte! I use these ESCs: www.aliexpress.com/item/-/1977745433.html They're rated to 14v but I'm currently using 4s lipos (16v) and they work fine. I ran the boat at full throttle for 10 mins and they got a bit warm so I added a couple of cooling fans to the heat sinks and uprated the capacitors to 25v to handle the 16v from the lipos. Would definitely recommend these.
Hi Dave, Amazing Job mate! Would you mind recommending a receiver and transmitter for the video please. Would Boscam RC832 Reveiver, and Boscam TS5830 Transmitter suffice?
Sh tacko hi mate, thanks very much. Yeah, those would both be good. I found this on eBay, £40 for both Tx and Rx Look at this on eBay Boscam TS5830 FPV 5.8GHz 32CH 1000mW AV Transmitter +RC805 Receiver TX RX RC FPV
Try eBay mate. I found the cheapest guy on there and then sent him a message asking how much he'd do 4 for. You should end up getting them even cheaper if you ask for 4. There are other cheaper (Chinese) 1100 gph pumps on eBay (£12.50 each I think) but wasn't sure of the quality.
Hi Dave, tremendous boat! (I agree with someone else you should build and sell a few of these for sure!!). I'm seriousy lacking in knowledge with regard to FPV kit but have built a single forward pointing camera FPV rig for a couple of AT boats. It's a massive help, I use a cheap boscam 5.8ghz 200mw tx and rx but I do have interest in adding a 2nd bottom facing cam and being able to switch between them. I have no idea what hardware I would need or indeed how I would switch between them. Also, have you played with night vision capabilities as my set up works well even in low light but in the dead of night even with bright torches strapped on (which probs scatters the fish everywhere lol) it's a struggle. Any further info you can provide would be great :-) Rob
Dave thats really well put together, I am trying to retro fit something like that onto my boat, could I contact you for some advice? It will probably save me lots of time getting stuff wrong that you got right! Pete
Boat seems to work great. Music was annoying to me, but I'm a professional musician who loves to fish. No worries. Really nice boat built and particularly like the excellent camera quality and the 360 movement I've not seen with any other boat. This was all years ago, but have you ever sold the boat as shown, or even just your camera rig for other brand boats to bait boat users in the USA? I seem to be the only one here using bait boats and I'm sick of spending my money in China. Wrote back if anyone would want to work with me for selling in the USA, thanks and cheers!
Thanks Les! I'd say it cost about the same price as brand new microcat. But I built it myself and used what I consider to be the best parts. I'm sure it could built for a lot less, just depends on what parts you want to use.
Hi Dave. Did you make the hull from scratch or is it a pre made hull that you've adapted. Either way it's amazing! I'm about to embark on my own build over the winter so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve
Hi Steve, thanks for your comments and yeah, it was built from scratch. I mainly used 2mm Perspex (brought from Homebase/B&Q). I cut this into shapes for the hull, super glued them together and then sealed it from the inside with fibre glass. Then sanded it down to get a good finish and gave the hull to my mate who works at an accident repair centre. He got it painted and then the paint got baked in an oven. If you are going to build one like this, my only suggestion would be to cut the Perspex as accurately as you can, it saves sanding time. Haven't really got any plans or anything I can give you unfortunately.
Hello mate, It's a Curry's own brand, 12v 14" Freeview LED TV. Unfortunately, they've discontinued this now but have a look on a website called Kogan. They do some good ones, they're cheap and have USBs for playing films on. Also, get a good Freeview aerial, I paid £35 for mine off eBay, I get 90 channels down the lake!!
Richard de Bas Thanks Richard, much appreciated!! I used a 12v COB LED from eBay.....but, I don't use it, i'd say you wouldn't even need one. What happens is that, when the light's on, if there is any silt or muck in the water, the light reflects off this and makes the water look murkier than it actually is. On a good sunny day, and the water's not too murky then 9ft would be the maximum where I could make out the bottom well enough to find clear spots.
Hi Graham, thanks! It cost about the same price as a Microcat does. Works exactly the same as a Microcat too, uses the same pumps etc, except it has the two cameras. I could do replicas, but the hull is scratch built so took about a year to put together. If I could get the hulls made, vacuum formed perhaps, then I would build them and sell them.
f1pitpass Hi mate, cheers! It's just the firmware that comes already installed on the on screen display. If you wanted to have a customisable on screen display, take a look at the micro minimosd. It's dirt cheap, easy to customise and loads of help/tutorials on here or the Internet. Take a look.
