She genuinely deserves an Oscar for her performance. Being able to instill genuine fear in viewers an portray a vile character only for us to somehow have sympathy for her at times.

She has taken a vile character and given her many facets through her acting skills. I find myself having sympathy for Serena at times, hating her and and trying to garner understanding for her. She does a phenomenal job.
She has consistently accomplished to elicit tension for the audience in feeling so angry at her at the same time as building feelings of pity and sadness. She is simply one of the best actresses of all time.
From her portrayal of Miranda Lawson in the Mass Effect series to Serena Joy, you have hit the nail right in the head. Yvonne has proven to be the second coming of Rosamund Pike when it comes to portray cold, aloof female characters with utmost finesse. Such an amazing talent.
Agreed. I love her ability to tap into such a complex character. I have hated Serena, sympathized with her, then hated her again, the felt anxious about her, now at the end I'm hopeful that she and June become allies and help each other :)

Her acting combined with the script makes me feel sympathy at times and then disgusted for feeling sympathy. Only such nuanced and complex writing and performance could achieve this cocktail of emotional response to one character

Round applause for this actress. She did a phenomenal job. I hated her, felt pity for her and sometimes even liked her at times. She is a complex character and she absolutely nails it.
In the book there is a memorable part where Offred wonders if Serena is angry herself for creating a world like Gilead, where she can no longer speak, or write books as she so enjoys. I think this is carried over beautifully from the book in both writing and the talented actress playing Serena.
Which episode is it? Now I want to rewatch that scene.
You can tell Yvonne is a sweetheart in real life just by her facial expressions reacting to these scenes.

her serena joy was unbelievable. terrifying and unpredictable and layered but mostly terrifying. such a well written character and masterfully portrayed by yvonne. chilling.
She feels so different in real life. Like, she is a totally different person from Serena. So impressive!
Yvonne is one of the bestest actresses we have out there. I feel like she's too underrated and, even tho ik she does her job purely for passion and doesn't really care much about being praised for her performances, I definitely think she deserves more recognition and awards. I fell in love with her on Chuck and watched all her other projects since then. She never disappoints. Her acting is always on point and I can safely say Serena Joy is her best work so far. Just when I thought she couldn't get any better Yvonne landed this role and gave her so many layers and nuances. She's brilliant.
This woman is a brilliantly gifted performer. I LOATHED her character on Dexter, Hannah McKay, and I fkn LOATHE Serena Joy Waterford. That’s what I admire most. This emotionally intelligent, kind, warm actress can so skillfully craft her every scene to make me feel something….even when those feelings are overwhelmingly negative.
Serena is by far the best character in the show. Brilliant acted too.

It's funny because it sounded so outrageous, most would not think it's a spoiler.
I love how this show is so complicated and mirrors lots of lines, power dynamics and interactions. Serena's 'do you understand me' was really intense and scary! June then says the same thing to her season 4 ep7 and it is absolutely frightening; that time Serena is on the ground and Junes hair and outfit are similar to the wives outfits. Such an amazing show with the best character development. No one 100% good or bad and It is great that I get to hate, sympathise and love a character as they grow, go through experiences and make choices.
Yah, I feel like Aunt Lydia and Serena Joy especially have taken me on the biggest roller coaster rides in terms of how I feel about them. Commander Lawrence is up there too. All three of them are really intriguing to watch everytime they appear on screen.
I have just finished watching Season 5 Episode 7. I am now binging all things Yvonne. If she doesn't win every award possible after this season, then there is something seriously wrong with America!

I honestly better understand Serenas character than Junes. June is hard to read and unpredictable, Yvonne has really shown us who serena is so even when she does unexpected things I understand why she chose it.

Watching this after only reading the novel, not having seen the series. Its... interesting to see how much they've altered her demeanor, and even how much they've altered the story.
Serena might be the most complicated character on the show. Sometimes I want her dead and sometimes I love her, it's really complicated. Yvonne plays so well that it's no wonder people think she's Serena in real life.

👩💻Ahh ... could one compare Yvonne Strahovski's 'Serena' with Margaret Hamilton's 'Wicked Witch of the West' in the Wizard of Oz. Kids were scared of Hamilton for generations when they saw her on the street in real life. I will also add Elizabeth Moss reminds me of the great actress Maureen O'Hara. Their acting styles are identical by watching what they are thinking and feeling without saying anything.🙋♀️🥰🇺🇲🇬🇧

I'm seriously contemplating doing something about it. 🤔 But yes, honestly I've felt like Nick's personality was very lackluster from the beginning. As someone on the THT subreddit said, "it was a desperate fling in desperate times."

It’s crazy how she’s says she wants Serena and June to end up in Hawaii. I just watched 05x10 and it looks like they’re headed that way. I have a feeling it’s not gonna be a paradise because that look in June’s eyes! Oh mannnn. She’s definitely done a great job at making Serena feel like they’ve got this genuine connection (considering she helped deliver her baby, got her to the hospital), but I feel like they’re definitely gonna be at odds again and June’s gonna come out on top.

The interesting thing is that Serena gives me a hard time. I am normally quick and quite steady with judging but I am conflicted with her. She suffers so much and yet she is working for that system. I feel sorry, I hate her, I feel bad for her, I want her to go down. Changing every 15 minutes.
