- Discover the captivating biography of renowned photographer Danny Lyon. From his groundbreaking documentation of the Civil Rights Movement and his role in pioneering the New Journalsim Movement, to his intimate portrayals of motorcycle subcultures, Lyon's work has left an indelible mark on the world of photography.
In this video I discuss "The Bikeriders" (soon to be adapted into a film starring Austin Butler and Tom Hardy), Lyon's work during the civil rights movement, and his documentation of the East Texas Prison system in "Conversations With he Dead"

The photograhper Danny Lyon is the same league as Robert Capa, Philip Jones Griffiths, and James Nachtwey, better is not possible!
I bow my hat to the work of Mr. Danny Lyon, his pictures enriched not only my life, but the life of many friends, an endless enjoyment...
Thank you, Danny Lyon, and the best wishes from Germany! Micha
Thank you for sharing ❤ Beautifully expressed.
Bill Ray also did a pretty good job capturing the outlaw biker image back in the 1960s. I've always liked his "Blackboard Cafe" nighttime photo and some Berdoo Hells Angels on a run with one guy waving. Irving Penn also took a few photos of California Hells Angels for Look magazine in early 1968. Thanks, Danny Lyon and Bill Ray.
Great job, really enjoyed this, apparently the forthcoming film of the same name was inspired by Lyon's book. Mike Brodie's, 'A period of Juvenile Prosperity' might be a cool one to tackle next since you asked for suggestions? An incredible piece of work in my opinion and the guy behind it has quite an interesting story.
Great job, i'm a big fan of Lyon's work. JT
Your best work yet. Being older than you, I have experienced Lyon’s work in first time releases in monographs and various magazines back in the day, consequently I thought I knew a lot about Danny. It appears l only knew the half of it. Kudos.
When I was young I saw his photos in a( life) magazine and I can remember the biker photos I'm 65. Then I was 15.
Well spoken and presented
Gonzos name was Hunter S Thomson not Tompkins. Thanks for this video. I'm diving in after seeing The Bikeriders.
I see only a thumbs-down button with 7 registered; I don't know what happened to the thumbs-up one.
I respect Lyon's courage and his photographic talent; I am not certain all his work has equal validity, but that gets into all sorts of issues of art and social commentary that represent difficult ideas, perhaps more today than at anytime in the past half-century. As one dedicated to a new renaissance, my views are not as "open" as some others'.
Well done, Joshua! How about Walter Ioss , Jr?
I'm such a fan now of Lyons. Thank you for this!
Thank YOU for watching! Glad i could help introduce his work to others
Very cool video!
Nicely done! I'd love to hear/watch your takes on Helen Levitt and Louis Faurer.
Great stuff 🙌 subscribed !!
happy to have you on board!
Lovely video
Thank you so much! It was fun to make and Danny Lyon is great!
The graphic is missing the ‘t’ in spotlight.
Wow thanks so much. Can’t believe I missed that. I’ll fix it right away.
He has the same birthday as me. March 16. Ha!
Happy belated birthday!
You lost me at Hunter S. “TOMPKINS”
I lost myself there too, don't worry
there are 10-20 other great American photographers who deserve this praise ... This fellow gave us some cool stuff ... His political "talk" is a big turn off ..
