I loved the soundtrack in this game. It wasn't necessarily scary, but when themes like that played throughout the game, it made me feel genuinely uneasy and anxious. I love that over cheap jump scares.

You could feel the love for System Shock Arkane has oozing from every pore of this game. It's not outright scary, but it is very unsettling and eerie all the same, just like System Shock was. This is easily the best spiritual successor to System Shock I've ever played, I actually liked it even more than BioShock.

Mick Gordon's abilities are amazing. How he made a seamless transition from 2016 DOOM's absolutely brutal, djenty, techno metal soundtrack to 2017 Prey with this mellow, deep and harmonically beautiful soundtrack is something i can't exactly understand. Also, first time i launched this game, i stayed throughout the entire menu soundtrack without touching the screen, just to take it all in. Really sets the tone of the game!

After playing the game, just sitting at the main menu screen with this soundtrack makes me flashback the game play. Very ominous.

Arkane Studios are by far the most underrated developers ever (and also the best). That's my opinion at least.
edit: but I was disappointed by Prey: Mooncrash and have no interest in Redfall. Hoping that they can pick things back up.
When I beat this game I hit my bong then laid down and thought about this game...but the point is, this game was soooooo good
PerrySport True but every developer other than this one need to work heavily on their level design and not make you run in a straight line killing things for no reason.
The Dishonoured series and Prey are my favourite games of all time. Yes, story could use some work, particularly in Dishonored, but the gameplay and, most importantly, the world-building, design, style & atmosphere are so immersive & awe-inspiring. I could spend 100s or hours just looking at every building, background, object, art, character etc etc in the environment.
@@darcgibson5099 mate, I agree with you so much, I installed Dishonored 2 again just to walk around the locations enjoying the beauty of level design.
They are one of my favorite dev teams for creating interesting worlds. I just love getting lost in them, taking it all in.

There's something about using your thrusters to launch yourself to a far away from the station escape pod that failed that you don't get with other games.
Well, if you are interested, you could play the games that inspired this: System shock 2 and Bioshock.
Play Bioshock series or Alien Isolation. If you liked the stealth/level design/freedom/strategy side of it then you're looking for immersive sims (by far my favourite game design) like Dishonored or Deus Ex. I actually thought the same after beating Dishonored games do the 3rd time and checked this out because it's Arkane Studios as well.
@@najib9093 Hey, are you getting Cyberpunk 2077? I'm really excited for that game as it pretty much contains everything that I love about Arkane's games. Optional stealth, a bunch of choices, multiple routes and possibilities, and it's open world to top it off.

One of the best video games I ever played. To be honest, if certain circumstances hadn't transpired on Talos-1, I would have stayed for the foreseeable future. I almost didn't even want to complete the game just to see what else I could get into.
Me too. I'm sad I'm no longer in the world of Prey.
Luckily, this game has amazing replayability
@@unreal727 For sure. I just discovered a certain ending that I had completely missed on my first playthrough due to having dealt with a 'certain situation' by using extreme violence instead of resourcefulness and foresight.
I liked Prey, especially level design, art style etc. but I really disliked enemy design. Imo there was only one well made enemy and that of course was mimic. Rest were so lacking in their design.

All these comments have inspired me to replay and finish Prey. I stopped playing it as I lost interest in it. Few have mentioned it's similar to BioShock so I'm down.
@@HragFarraGaming Its a beautiful story, few games leave me with such a sense of terrible dread and hopelessness, and none do it like Prey. Ultimate apocalypse scenario in my book. No worse way of going than having your consciousness being devoured and forever enslaved in a state of infinite terror sealed within a neural network by a shadowy dark space living hive mind with a hatred for any other life. Pure Epicness. So underappreciated.
Surprisingly, despite being mute while we play as him, Morgan is a great character. We never hear him talk, only on the tapes, but there are other things that mention him which builds his character. And I absolutely love the voice actor for him! Incredible work from all sides, this is probably Arkane’s best game yet.
I can guess that the female Yu is the same, but different voice, but haven’t played as her, yet.
@@adaptorperish1322 I played as Female Morgan Yu. I loved her, I can say pretty much the same thing. Someone about January's voice with female Morgan yu felt way more personable and...Aware....Interestly enough
The Old Witch Soul Mhm, just started another run with Female Yu. Good voice, too, but clearly Male Yu’s was a model for her. His voice seems more natural and fluent. Amazing voice acting for all the characters, btw. This game is such a gem, I cannot recommend it enough anywhere possible! This is a huge step-up from Dishonored games (not that they were bad, but it’s almost incomparable.
Hoping very much for Prey 2. There is a lot in the story to be said, hopefully that will happen and the launch will be better that it was for Prey 1.

This will forever be the song that defined Prey for me. Just found out Microsoft is shutting down Arkane Austin. Thank you for an absolutely incredible game Arkane, you deserved so much better.

In this game, we don't are the predator, we're a prey.
I don't know why, but the main title appearing without any transition is so satisfying. Ruiner has cuts like that too. Love it.
I know this game is a spiritual successor to System Shock 2 and Bioshock, and I loved those games but I think I love Prey even more. It's an improvement in nearly every way as far as I can tell, not downplaying the others,great products of their time, but this is a damn fine progression. Atmospheric, carefully crafted, numerous ways to play, challenges to be had with solutions to be found and never before have common fodder enemies been able to keep the game tense all the way to the end and dont even get me started on the awesome job Arkane did with building out Talos-1 as a game space. Simply great, a game I'll be happy to keep in my library.
Widget The studio of the Arkane studio was one of those who worked on System Shocks, both and on 2 OG Deus Ex games. He actually worked with Ken Levine (the creator of BioShock) on those games, too.
Love this brilliant OST and this stellar game. All of Mick Gordon's works are just golden, especially Prey (2017)'s soundtrack. The pain, sorrow, fear and pure doom and isolation aboard Talos 1 -- along with the hope for survival, redemption, and the act of saving lives -- are all thematically within this OST and that's why I love it so much and listen to it daily XD
And the game is just excellent. The worldbuilding, universe and lore of Prey (2017) are all very interesting, too. The Talos 1 space station seems like a tangible place and the dev team REALLY worked on the fact that human beings lived and worked and almost all tragically met their demises there, in-game. I love all the parts of the station, the Power Plant especially. It literally sustains all human life on board, like one little mishap from the engineers and that's it, everyone dies, constant repairs need to be made, etc, etc. The character voice acting is great, and I liked all the characters and their side missions. Of course, I liked how you got to save all of them in the end. Oh and the Typhon organisms are fascinating, and terrifying. One TranStar employee remarks in an email that the Mimics have a "weird affinity for TranStar coffee cups." It's proven unfortunately at the very beginning of the game that well...employees like their cups of deep, delicious fresh coffee. The Looking Glass feature is just so cool, and strangely almost tangible. Some of the weapons, like the GLOO Cannon and Recycler Charge, I find ingenius. I love how you can use the GLOO to scale walls and recycle damn near ANYTHING, including Typhon and human corpses. Imagine your cadaver being re-shaped into a badass weapon and ammo. Or something.
The attention to detail in this game is insane. There are so many solutions to solve a problem. And I love how you can craft Neuromods, makes the game alot easier...of course you CAN beat the game using none, but since I like being op in games and love turning myself into various objects, I use them in any preythru I do. Even if Neuromods are so horrific in nature.
And one last thing -- I really like how this track is called "Experiments in Confusion", as during the whole game you're a very confused result of an experiment. It also really reminds me of the track song 'Wings for Marie (Part 1)' by Tool. Idk, to me they sound...similar. Everything I said in this gushy comment is in my pov, and is very subjective, etc. Thank you for reading all of this, to Hrag Farra for uploading this vid, and obviously tysm Arkane for your interestingly meta game!
Damn.. all this talk about Prey.. I've got to get back into it. It didn't captivate me at first, but I'll give it another shot again.

Man, if this game had had another couple of months to get the main story objectives built up and polished a bit more, this may have become my favourite game of all time. It has SO much going for it, it's crazy.
This game is just tooooo underrated and hated upon for not being 'Prey 2' but it's a really good game, space, stealth, aliens, open world (kinda), tasks and what not

Guys I found my way to Prey as a big BioShock fan. I was in the loop for these type of games, and wanted something similar, but different. As I’m taking a break now to write this post, I’m playing Prey in pitch black at 3AM, and holy shit this is bonkers. So ominous, that hunted feeling. I say Damn.

Funny thing is that this theme fits a lot to the "Prey" book by Michael Crichton
The title screen music has something magic about it, inspiring dread, isolation and curiosity. The first half of the game had such amazing atmosphere! I wish they did not go all out with swarms of enemies turning the other half into a clumsy shooter (at least on the PS4).
How was the other half a clumsy shooter? You can still avoid the typhon in the second chapter

And now i finished the game, well? Its good game and very creative one. The strong point is the exploration you can go anywhere, explore everthing on talos. I love the fact you have options to enter any locked doors, on standarts survival horror, u must find key or something else to unlocked the doors, prey you have options. About typhon? Well they are menacing and smart. My final veridic guys buy this game is worth it a lot

True this opening theme is just pure sickness and opens the game, wich is sooo awesome. Reminds me a little bit of dead space series. Has anyone figured out what that quick subliminal-message-like, Fight-Club-esque image is that's flashed on the screen just before the video loops? Pausing it, I think I can see that laser Prey logo in front of one of those odd triangle-covered helmets with two arms holding it. Or something.

I absolutely LOVE this theme. It feels like a futuristic, revamped version of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells from The Exorcist; the same eerie & ominous tone. Seriously, Mick Gordon's work is like goddamn outstanding.

Bethesda lost part of its charm after firing Mick, and after the disaster that was Redfall I'm honestly scared for Arkane
I think they got it under control. No doubt they will fix redfall and make it as great as deathloop

Man I’m playing this game on pc it’s awesome seems like a kind of game that wouldn’t work on consoles, question for console players how does it play on ps4 and xbone?
Its pretty intuitive on ps4. Had some nasty performance issues on launch but now that its all patched up it plays quite nicely

In all honesty as a horror game it fails, but as a system shock esque game, I am more then pleased.
It was trying to be more of a System Shock-like game than a horror game to begin with.
The game was a bit of an acquired taste, but some of the soundtrack was just brilliant.... And, I got to say that Prey has a lot of potential, perhaps as a franchise.
It's not supposed to be a horror game, how in the world would they have come up with such a beautiful station otherwise lol !
