Springtime Picking Boats by the Side of the Road - Is This 24' Grady White Really Under $7K????

  • We are back in our home roads of the North Fork of Long Island and on the hunt again for used boats for sale. Let's see what we found on this cold blustery April day.
    As I mention at the end of this video, I would probably go with an allegedly running and driving 24' Grady White (with working electronics). Which would you pick and why?

    I took out my 29 year old Grady White Adventure today. Went out Clearwater Pass Florida and headed up the coast about 20 miles to Anclote key and back. The boat is powered with a 1994 200hp Saltwater Series Yamaha. The rig runs like new and practically looks new.

    I used to have an Offshore 24 with an outboard on a bracket. Great riding boat and topped out around 43mph with a 200hp.

    1984 Grady White for sure
    We had a 1973 Grady White 21' Chesapeake Cuddy Cabin from 1973 to 2016. The hull lasts many decades no issues. Tow with a 2005 Chevy Tahoe LS Vortec 5.3v8 with trailer towing package and 4x4

    Of all of those boats the Grady is best buy, by a long shot. I used to do I/O work on the side and once i learned how to maintain them, they are really cheap and easy boats to work on. I wouldn't want to get into an I/O if I didn't have that experience though. I would be more concerned about rotten wood than the engine, but if you had a good hull and suck 2k into making sure the engine was running right and had new cooling components, you would have a very solid 30+ mile offshore boat

      @@jiggingjerks Good Friend of mine listed his beat up 21 Carolina skiff with a blown yamaha 4 stroke last summer for 8k. he got HUNDREDS of calls from all over the east coast. I think he ended up getting 6k for it. But that would have been a 1k or 2k boat in 2019. Used boat market is nuts the last few years. But I think its going back to normal soon.

    We paid $700 for our 85’ 24 offshore pro but without a motor, a rotted floor and stringers! Lol. We’ve spent a little more than $6300 to rebuild her. If that floor and transom are solid and the motor runs that’s a great deal! Nice hardtop too!

    Thank you for teaching me about aging a boat with the serial number. My flagship is a 12' Sea Nymph. It´s powered by a 250lb horse´s ass outboard. I wondered the age of the boat. It´s one year younger than the engine.

  • @cheapme1850
    @cheapme1850 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Sea Ray is a good boat in the wrong location. Move it inland, especially the Lakes, and it would at least go for double the price IF it’s running, especially with the trailer. The stock seats are gone which is a negative and it definitely needs some TLC but nothing that can’t be fixed with a little work. The stern drive is probably an Alpha which are cheap - used ones go for about a grand - but they’re pretty easy to work on and generally indestructible in freshwater environments. On the other hand, the Grady would scare me because it doesn’t look like a Mercruiser so it’s probably either a Volvo or worse, an OMC, both of which are much harder to find parts and knowledgeable people to work on. Both are probably great ways to get started and will probably give you as much fun as the $60k boat.

    Great Audio. I had a Venture trailer for my last boat and just like the one in your video those plastic fenders were just a pain and always getting cracked/broken. Just like a boat trailers need TLC as well, just seemed like the Venture needed a lot more TLC. I also had the Solas 4 blade prop and it was the best prop I ever had. jmo As for a I/O in salt water. I would pass on that.

      @@jiggingjerks I bought my set (2xT / 1xR) in 2021 and was on a pretty tight budget at the time. I went with a company called Lensgo who, at the time, offered the best connection range, a charging case, and onboard recording to a micro sd card so if the receiver, or the wireless connection failed, I still had the audio and could just sync it up in post. I think if I were in the market today and had a little extra money I would go with the DJI set. That being said, Rode is the standard when it comes to streaming or vlogging equipment and sometimes I just feel like you pay a premium just because their name is printed on the item, not because the item deserves it. I'm not suggesting that there's anything wrong with their equipment, quite the contrary, but I just feel like many times there's a better value for your money out there. I own some Rode stuff because sometimes there's no denying that theirs is just the best option, but with wireless lav mics there were just too many quality choices available. Just my 2 cents...
