    Here's the deal with these guys. The " hylocereus" or dragon fruit cactus used for the stock will not last more than a couple of years in any condition. You have a tropical cactus with a desert cactus grafted on top. Two totally different cactus with different requirements. So they don't last more than a couple of years at best. When I bought mine I took it home and degrafted it and regrafted to a robust stock ( stenocereus prunosus) and it has been growing for many years now. Even has bloomed!! The gymnocalycium top is a large cluster of heads now and going strong!!! If you want these to last , survive and grow , regrafting to a robust "desert cactus" stock is the only answer! Use any type of cereus type cactus, stenocereus, trichocereus, and enjoy the plant for many years to come!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks , have a great week ahead!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌹🌴🌷🌿🌸🌻🍀🌺

    I have forced air heating so sometimes if I'm worried about the soil not drying fast enough I set the pot on the vent and let the air dry out the soil.

    I've had this happen like the one on the right bc there wasn't a good connection with the vascular ring in the center of the cacti. Even tho it looks like it is on the outside.

    I have the exact plant , and mine now looks like the one in the brown pot with the shrivelled up top , like you I wondered what was wrong , then I noticed after a little while that a new shoot as appeared at the side and is now quite a size, so it makes me wonder if that is how a new shoot appears as it’s doing well, the only thing is the is roots are appearing in the new cactus and I’m not quite sure what to do with it do you ??

    Thanks for the info. I got a set of six moon cacti recently. It's too bad they can't be propagated, I knock the little babies off all the time. I found the type of cactus used for the base of the graft but it was really pricey. I have read that you can only expect the moon cactus to live for a year or two anyway so I will think of them as an annual rather than a perennial.

    • @Succulentsandsunshine
      @Succulentsandsunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can graft those babies onto another cactus (or even onto that same stem). It's a bit tricky, but can be done 😊

    I've been considering getting a Moon Cactus but I haven't felt 100% confident that I could do right by one. I did recently come across Purple Moon Cactus & have been wondering about their care. I've seen some that were not grafted and were said to be able to create the chlorophyll on their own. I thought I might be able to handle one of them but then again I've also come across Purple Moon Cactus that were grafted and were said to be like other Moon Cactus. Very confusing!

    Hi..Loved the video! I have one of these cuties in yellow I've noticed instead of being a bright deep yellow it's looking pale and kinda washed out?
    Any ideas on what's going on with this?
    Thanks

    • @Succulentsandsunshine
      @Succulentsandsunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually it's because it's not getting enough nutrients. Sometimes that can be remedied with fertilizer, but sometimes it's just because it's a grafted plant and they don't always live happily ever after together.

    Can high levels of humidity cause succulents to take in excess moisture? 3 months of almost non stop rain, temperatures on the low side, + almost no sun. (It's making me wilt!) I'm new to succulents and have no idea how to help my beautiful babies.

    • @laattardo
      @laattardo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are they inside? If so, it's probably lighting issues. Make sure not to water them too much if it's been humid and dark out.

    • @Succulentsandsunshine
      @Succulentsandsunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Humidity will definitely affect how often you water succulents. When humidity is high I recommend not watering as frequently.

    I have a red & prink one name mickey & minnie. My problem is their soil do I change, if so how? It collects mold, also I don't know why. I do soak up the soil and let it dry. When noticing it dry, after two to three days I soak them again, yes their indoors always :-). Any as advice .

      You can cut back the branch so that your "Moon Cactus" will focus its growth on the scion.

    I just bought one of these. It has little beige spots on it. Could it be scale or is it normal?

    • @Succulentsandsunshine
      @Succulentsandsunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It could be normal. Sometimes they'll get spots from inconsistent watering.
      But look up scale and see if it matches anything you see. Scale is much easier to treat if you catch it early.

    • @Succulentsandsunshine

      The problem is they don't have chlorophyll so they can't absorb sunlight on their own and rely on their rootstock for nutrients 😕

    • @jess6119
