Would really like to see a version with at least 4 PoE ports, that way I could have a couple access points and switches connected to it and not have to worry about running more power cables.
Is it possible to turn off the status LED for the local Network and WAN sockets? Does the stealth mode do so or is this option only for optional access points?
I had to buy on on emergency basis for a customer who crashed over weekend. I'm currently trying to figure out how to setup. I'm hoping it's easier than I expect Any quick tips would be appreciated lol
I don't understand why I could buy it. Seems to me it doesn't have an IPSEC or SSL VPN server. With little more money, I buy the C1000 series router with SD-WAN. Also based on a management dashboard. or ZYXEL USG FLEX 100 Security Firewall. Cisco Meraki what it is for compared to other CISCO products?
I just finished the whole video. I found the wifi engagement feature pretty interesting, especially since I live in a wifi congested area. I would like to see patterns with that feature.
@@NaterTater Yes, I can see it being used for bad purposes. I was thinking more of the line for security and wifi congestion. Security so if I see a certain cell phone appear near my home that wasn't mine, that would make me concern. Congestion for mapping which channels are heavy used so I can adjust my APs to avoid conflicts and improve throughput.
Is it possible to use this router as a primary modem? I mean, connect it directly to internet from fastweb without any other modem or device in the middle?
Looks good but my minimum feature set requires the router have dual wan and offer failover. At some point, I hope your reviews include one or two of those devices.
So who do i set my ip address on the unit. For example I have a comcast fiber box in my office. They told me i need to get a Gateway router/ firewall box to put in between the comcast fiber box and the switch. They gave me the ip address to use.
I didn't know Meraki was owned by Cisco. How does it compare with a Ubiquiti UDM Pro, both routers seem to be at the same price point. I confused Meraki with Mikrotik lol. I still like to know how this router stacks up against the UDM Pro though.
hello, can anyone help me how to connect the serial console cable to this Meraki-go 48 port switch, at the time I receive the switch on the device serial number or barcode is not available, somehow I need to find out the serial number of this switch to manage...
Does anyone know if this device is even a firewall? If you can't set policy and verify policy, or if there's a default policy that is set and you can't alter it, how do you verify policy and if it's in place? TAC is telling me that setting your own policy is not supported in this box. It is only supported in some Enterprise version. And they are implicitly, in effect telling me that, in terms of viewing and verifying the default policy, I have to take Cisco's word for it. So this is basically a firewall by committee or on Cisco's word. No amount of Google searches have shown me how to do this.
It’s a basic firewall (at a low price point) with most options hidden. Do not look for tweakable granular options. You could compare it to an ISP router/modem featurewise. If you need a firewall with more options (at the same price point) go look elsewhere (TP-link, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik). Meraki Go is excellent for those not wanting to mess around with settings a lot (the wireless APs are neat BTW).
Great video thanks for sharing. I am so confused though. This GX50 says up to 50 clients. but the AP's (WiFi 5) say they can handle 50 clients per AP. So, does this mean if I had two AP's I would still be limited to the 50 that the GX50 can handle? I think about this because in my home I have at least 6 TV's, Sonos speakers and all of our personal devices which will very quickly exceed 50. Unless I am thinking about the cient count all wrong? Some entry level mesh networks handle more than 75 and some over 100.
The overall GX50 "50 clients" is just a guideline for how to "size" the router based on its ability to manage traffic/throughput. I'd say thats for 50 heavy users (phone/tablet/computer/tv). Other devices like speakers, alexa, thermostats, locks, lights, etc are easy to handle so I would not be concerned with lots of those.
Now, see if this is security device it should not update it is software automatically directly from internet.Any Linux firewall will do much more than this junk.
Hey Nater, EXCELLENT job, as advertised 'Unboxing' and very good points, explanations, and 'how to'.
Thanks!
Really interesting, thanks for the detailed review
You're welcome!

Can you do a video on how to set up the mesh system? I can’t do POE with my Access Points :(

Does it support static routing? In case you got a layer 3 switch network behind this device
I would like To use the advance firewall how do we attach the license key
On the firewall/router vlan can you add dhcp option such as option 66 in the dhcp scope?

Been thinking about getting one of these to test out to Possibly start selling to SMB clients.
thats the target market
@@NaterTater not available in Canada yet :(
Pls I need you to recommend Miraki brand that can serve 1500student and weather proof and support PoE

Yes neat (and a little creepy!)

I think UDM Pro is the direct competitor so might be more of preference for layout and specific features (and any existing hardware) to decide.
Does it need static IP from ISP to use VPN ?
No

How does this thing not support site to site VPN lol.
This does not seem to support SD-WAN or anything like it. Entry-level piece of gear.
Well yeah… that’s pretty clear based off the pricing. If you want Meraki enterprise level features, go with the normal Meraki product line.
