hey man just wanted to say that the video quality is amazing and the information is also extremely good. From a pure video perspective, everything is entertaining to watch, and you've struck a great balance between going into detail about what you did while not overexplaining on things. From a content perspective, as someone who has been interested in game dev and learned a bit about it here and there for the past 5 years or so but never committed to actually learning enough to make my own game, you've given me a lot of inspiration that other game dev TH-camrs haven't. Your transparency about how much money you spent on it, as well as the steps that you took to make sure you stayed productive are the practical stuff I needed to hear. I've been recently considering trying once again to take the plunge into learning game dev, and I think you might've given me the push I need. So thanks a lot dude, and I hope your channel and game continue to grow and be successful. Easy sub and notis for me.
Just for little information... That Unity update version, not really necessary if your Unity not have bug's... But need update if your Unity to outdated...
Sautéed mushrooms, Swiss, and mayo. Amazing video! Absolutely love a lot of the points you've made, and I will deffinately be rewatching this to help me with my own projects! I never played the game you got the text idea from, but absolutely love it! Reminds me slightly of the keyword system Mabinogi has, which is a huge personal inspiration for me.
Ketchup Mayo! 😂 ahhh! this was such a fun video! Can’t believe it’s been a year already 😮 Dane you’ve done an amazing job, so proud of you! Can’t wait to see where Noia will be in one year from now 🎉
I’m not gonna lie when I first came across this video I was a bit pessimistic thinking “Oh no yet another indie developer with another dev log making their game that always ends up looking the same as everyone else” but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by your game, so props to you and I hope Noia does well
im also trying to make a kinda mmo. more like a shared world survival game. its pretty hard. but at least i dont have to mess with that hole story lines and quests. im devloging my game on my channel. love to know your opinion
Amazing, steady progress! As of late videos where programmers talk about their projects are just so fun and motivating for me when I work on my own projects. I'm currently creating my own Ebook library, and I've already gotten to the point where it's usable! I wish you good luck in your future endeavours!
BBQ Sauce. This is so inspiring! Finishing a single player game is already a mighty task. Props to you for handling everything that comes with game development and making it a reality. Constancy is really the key.
Mayonnaise For the aggro, one technique other MMOs use is giving players a stat for how favored are by enemies. DCUO for example; calls this "Domination" and tank specific items increase it greatly so the enemies will attack the tank more often what you've done is seriously impressive, even with the pressure of university breathing down their necks, I've seen a lot of people struggle to do a fraction of the work you've been doing. keep up the great work :)
This is awesome! Crazy that you are doing an mmo, frkn amazing that you have gotten this far. Looking forward to test it out or finally get to play it on release!
Just wanted to say this video is very inspiring! I've decided to leave my career in marketing and am going back to school for game design. I keep thinking I'm crazy and that it's impossible to make a video game alone, but this video shows that's not the case!
Same here. Had a good paying job but was miserable everyday. Only thing that brought me joy was creating games for others to play. Let's hope both our journeys go well
Mayo+ketchup! Very inspiring I've talked about making a game for years, but I've never taken the leap. Seeing one person take on all this has me seriously considering giving it a shot.
I absolutely love the almost paper Mario turning of the character! Also I'm a huge fan of enemies that do the telegraphing, it allows you to have some pretty nuts encounters lol. Looks great overall!
How am I just now seeing this and how does this video only have 50k views? This is an incredible video, love the content man and good luck with the game!
Just a curious fact, Noia in brazilian portuguese means "stoner" 🍁😂 Besides that, what a story, a truly inspiring journey. Congrats for the progress, as a developer too I can tell how difficult is to start a project and don't abandon after some harshes.
I started my path as a solo game developer and thanks to people like you, i see is possible to do something amaizing, and diferent with a lot of effort (and is a lot of that). You have to be proud, thanks for sharing this amazing journey, your game looks amaizing, and thanks for sharing videos like this. All the best!
Thanks buddy, great to see how u created a wonderful game. gives me much impression on what i will have to do in the following weeks, months and maybe a hole year.
BBQ sauce, It's awesome that you can set the time aside to make your dream game. I know how hard it can be to stay motivated and willing to spend time, effort and money in one of your projects. Keep up the good work. ❤
seasoned mayonnaise! man this is a really inspiring video. I think I learned way more with this one than all the “how to start developing games”. one key thing you taught me was the no zero day rule. I think I have seen it somewhere, but now it really made sense to me as to the things i’m going trough rn. thank you so much for sharing all this process!
Wow, this is awesome! When I saw the title, I honestly had low expectations. Every new game dev says they want to make an MMO, but almost no one actually succeeds. This is super impressive!
Great video! Super awesome to hear about your journey and your shortcomings and achievements! Look forward to hearing from you more! And pickles are pretty awesome..
Got a lot of respect for you to manage this amount of dedication! I made a really simple 2D platformer over the span of 12 months and found the motivation/energy really came in peaks and troughs so good on your for staying on track. Did you do all this whilst working a 9-5?
I starting drawing assets for a game idea i had 3 years ago and after getting busy at work stopped working on it entirely, but recently I’ve been really trying to get back into it. Your video is very well made and inspiring, thank you for sharing your experience ❤
Garlic actually. Underrated. As I'm working on my first game and youtube is showing me all this related content I have to say it really does help. As a dev you created a good game and many experiences for people and as a content creator with all the editing and time spent that comes with it, you created inspiration and knowledge about the real experience of a game dev. Thank you.
Very cool to watch how did you start your journey and also way you described every single step/aspect of your game dev journey was enjoyable to watch and listen. I wish you all the best and, I hope that Noia will be successful product in near future.
Pickles. Hey dude, I Wana say how amazing it is to see someone tackle this on their own. I know it wasn't easy. Keep up the great work, we are all rooting for you!
This looks awesome! I'm curious tho, why the decision to self-host, as opposed to say renting a VPS? Especially in Alpha/Beta phases, wouldn't a VPS be cheaper?
Dude! This was the coolest, and most helpful video I have seen. I am just starting my hobby in indie development and this was tremendous to watch. Gave a great info on what sort of commitment and a timeline should go into a “good” game.
Ive just decided to take the journey into game dev and this video fills me with elation, especially your excitement about your 400 players in April. Biweekly updates would keep me on track and accountable, I might just follow your workflow. To Noia!
Very informative. You have convinced me to start with a framework to get my project running instead of building from scratch. As I have no idea what I'm doing codewise.
Pickle, nom nom! Game looks great, love the systems you implemented, very advanced! Must have taken a long time to get this far, I hope the launch is going to be a fruitful one!

Those portable AC units emit massive heat from the plastic piping that goes to the window, I found insulating it (bubble wrap in my case) lowered the heat emmision from that outlet pipe and improved it's efficiency.
First time I heard of this game and this video was a nice way to ketchup on how far you've come! This mustard been hard to do but I relish to see where you are at year two!
Cheese is the best condiment, This video was great! You've got a solid mindset! Love the Server setup, if it works it works! Looking forward to the full release!
I'm very happy to see a game dev log that acknowledges using pre-made content. The goal as a developer is to create a fun game, there is nothing wrong at all using assets, yet some people act as if a game that uses assets is a cheat. I've been buying Humble Bundle assets and plan on using some in what I develop, but the people casting a stigma on that type of work has stopped me from even taking the first steps, it's great to see someone who isn't afraid and is developing his own project, with his own flair, but doesn't mind using tools to help out. (which is what assets are, tools. imagine a carpenter who refused to buy a screwdriver from home depot because it's not his own creation?)
Spicy mayo! I just got started in learning how to code because i want to make a game so bad, this really helped light the fire for me. I cant wait to get my projects moving
Cheddar cheese. Very impressive and inspiring works !!! I wish you all the best for this incredible adventure !!! 😃 Can't wait to see future developments ! :)
Well done for actually getting an MMO out there! Amazing to achieve that. With that said, MMO is all about getting a community then keeping a community then making the community even happier ! For a small scale MMO that should inform the design as much as possible and who knows maybe... "that's when the big bucks start comin' in!" (to quote Coming To America)! Good Luck.
Hey man, stumbled upon your video by chance (am not even gaming myself). I gotta say I really enjoyed it! It's amazing what you created, and I wish you lots of success. 🤜🤛
All about mustard, I love your passion. I might have to check your project out later. I'm going through cs50 right now, but I've been messing around with code and computers all my life. I'm hoping to start a project of my own in the next year or two! I'd also like to make sort of an mmo but wow what a huge thing to tackle by yourself!
Usually people doesnt finish mmo games BUT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A CHANCE
