Now we live in Oregon Cascade mountains, so we only have to deal with half inch long Carpenter ants when the temps get above 85. Woo Hoo.

Liz is just too adorable and convincing here. Even Matt's bug aversion just melts away. She also got me going. Can you imagine the shock and horror at the end!
Here are some of our recipes:
For any bugs except spiders, we are merciless: When you enter the house, you die.
Now ants are a special case. We've had hundreds of ants marching disciplined through the kitchen, coming from a tiny hole near the outgoing door or through the outgoing door. Here's our strategy which, when executed once, is good for the entire summer:
Fill a bucket with about 5 liters (depending on the size of the marching legion) of hot water with a good all-purpose cleaner and make it slightly foam.
Clean the ant-street and some of its surroundings with it.
Be certain to stamp, push and crush some of the ants in the process.
Mop and dry, but not extremely dry.
Swipe the dead ants towards the entrance of the ant-street.
This works, also for a longer period because:
    * Ant behavior is guided by chemist signals provided to them by the other ants. The all-purpose cleaner gets them confused for a long time.
    * When ants on the march encounter multiple dead ants, they will return and tell their buddies the road is unsafe.
    * A little while later the surviving ants will start cleaning up the dead ones and in the process of doing so learn that road is unsafe.
To avoid occasionally roaming ants to call out the army again put your sugar, flour, bread, and any other edible stuff in sealed containers (thank Heaven for Tupperware) or in the fridge.

Then took a craft syringe and lined the floor with soap. Sprayed the floor with the bottle. No ants the concoction will kill them when wet and once dry leaves a slight film (apparently ants don't like sticky feet). But somehow the ants seem so less offensive than roaches and centipedes. Seem cleaner than other bugs and so much more well disciplined. They take the little stuff back to their colony. Still, I bait them. This is still survival of the fittest.

I made the mistake a few years ago, I tried to buy a Hershey bar in the summertime during daylight hours. I made it from the store door about 5 feet before it melted. We had a first parking spot, two rows over from the door. My chocolate 🍫 bar was a puddle when I got to the car. I had to put it in the freezer overnight so it would turn into a bar again. Worst part of Southern summers, you can't buy chocolate, or icecream during the day, they melt before you get to the car. Coworker of mine said they just take a cooler with ice packs in it into the store and load the cold stuff in it right there in the store at the register. Smartest thing I've heard of in years.
Don't worry, summer will be over by Thanksgiving, or Christmas. You can buy icecream by January without having to worry about it melting, much. Florida did have a couple weeks in the 90°s last January. Climate change is real.
Thank you for the video, greatly appreciated.

      @@latina2673 Hi,
Not the calendar summer, the temperature summer. Florida has summer 9 to 10 months out of the year. There's 1 to 2 months of not summer, our version of winter. Sometimes we get 1 to 2 weeks of spring, and 1 to 3 weeks of autumn. But the leaves don't change color much, not until January or February, they turn brown and drop. Life in paradise ain't as good as it sounds.
      👵✌️🖖

Ants aren't usually a problem, but we regularly have Texas riding roaches aka palmetto bugs sneak in off the live oak just outside the back door. Doesn't do them any good, 'cause they're always dying by the time they make it in, but at least it keeps the cat amused.

Try a little bit of Dawn in a spray bottle mixed with water spray on counter tops let set 5 minutes wipe up . Her and the other little critters won't be back for a while ! This is changing the subject but do people in Alabama call coca-cola co cola sometimes like they do in N. C. ?

We’ve been dealing with ants in our camper all summer. Doesn’t matter what we use or what traps we have placed around. One day we moved the seats near the window and there was an ENTIRE COLONY MAKING A GROUP HOME ON THE CABINET. All over my hats and my duffel bag of clothes. But they weren’t coming form the window, oh no! They broke the seal in between the wall and the cabinet and found some entry way that we can’t find! We lost two Dr Pepper 2 liters because those boogers found a way in and one was unopened! So many great soldiers of deliciousness were lost that day. Rest In Peace 😭

Don’t do it. I was kind to my sugar ants , then one season they started biting me (or stinging). I developed an allergy and it took quite a lot of Benadryl and Claritin to bring my reactions under control. And feeding the pets is trickier, I can’t keep houseplants because the ants set up housekeeping in the pots.
