When he said "CrEePy BasTards" you can hear the fear and the panic in his voice.

Or when he says "tHiS dAmN SwAmP" makes Arthur feel like a well-realized person who actually reacts to the world around him rather than just a silent badass.
Another reason why it make you feel like arthur is an actual human and not just a video game character

During the skinner brothers encounter, if you shoot the last survivor you can earn good honor for putting him out of his misery

The only time I’ve been genuinely terrified while playing a video game was riding through Lakay at night. I didn’t even die or take hardly any damage but those night folk and the whole atmosphere made my heart race, serious kudos to the developers for that

dude there are places in the game i straight up refuse to go after nightfall. bayou nwa and bluewater marsh are two of them, just because of the night folk... i'm getting better about roanoke ridge and the murfrees

It’s the way the fog rolls in. It suffocates and before you know it you can’t see. You want to pull out the lantern but you also want the hand free for a gun just in case you need it. Besides, the lantern doesn’t help that much anyway.
Then your horse gets spooks…just a snake this time. But you remember how helpless you are when you get thrown off it…should you go on foot so you’re ready? No. The speed of getting out is worth the risk.
Was that a twig or was it the night folk clicking at each other? At least Raiders come out loud and with guns. The night folk run you down and if they get to you, it’s a guaranteed death. You won’t know where they’re coming from or how many…and don’t think going into the water will hell because there’s gators here.
This is one of the best environments in all of gaming and I usually hate open world games
8:30 One interesting fact is that if you shoot the man to end his suffering you actually gain honor, I did it in my playthrough but didn't expect the game to understand I was doing it to end his misery and it actually quite surprised me, lol.
It is brought up in the epilogue, when Charles talks to the player advising it may be better to put a certain soul out of their misery rather than that the person suffer.
@@missymarzipan I think there's an event where you find a man getting mauled by a wolf and it's scripted that he'll die whatever you do or don't. If I recall correctly killing him quickly also gained me honor for putting him out of his misery.

@@enrique6335 yep. I am doing another play through currently and I had the option to give him health cure or whiskey. Apparently the only way to gain honor is just kill him. So you’re correct.
@@enrique6335 and you lose honor by ending him with a shotgun (or any gun that can blow his head off i believe)
RDR2 has me convinced that Rockstar could make a straight-up new horror IP in the future, some of the encounters here tell me Rockstar has a team capable of successfully doing so.
I really wish for a horror game with the style of gameplay they do; in third person and all that, you know what I mean. But also set in some pintoresque time, as the present or future is the common nowadays, but imagine a horror game set in the wild west, or in the mobsters' era, or during a world war! It could be so interesting and rockstar could mix their shooting mechanics with horror themes.
They could even do an dlc for rdr2 similar to the last one but maybe with vampires instead or something like that
@@VersedFlame Agreed, even better if it's an open-world where every inch of the game's map is cursed and you have to fend off if you want to live, they could incorporate RDR2's survival mechanics like hunting and gathering supplies and making sure you don't camp alone in the night.

@@krustedkody8254 Yep, exactly what I was thinking I want an Undead Nightmare 2 where we get to face the mysteries from the main game head on as in they're actually part of story like the vampire, or the pig creature, etc...
Still so bummed we never got an Undead Nightmare for this game. So much you could do with the landscape. Vampires, werewolves, goblins, ghouls, ghost stories -- real southern gothic stuff.
Not to mention stuff like Wendigo/skinwalkers/goatmen.
Monster hunting? Damn you know I'd be down for that.
U and me both, I honestly thought they were secretly making an undead nightmare dlc, cuz Saint Denis would've been an awesome place to fight zombies or vampires, or anything of that nature, especially that spooky ass cemetery in town, really any setting in the game would've been perfect for horror missions, they need to make the shit already! Lol
@@frankomatic2000 I'm hoping with the new gen of consoles maybe we'll get something. But it's also Rockstar, who haven't been that dependable as of late. Which is a shame. They really made something special with Rdr2, it's a bummer that so many "see ya next Tuesdays" keep buying into GTA Online and Red Dead Online. I would pay $100 for a remake of Red Dead 1 and I feel like most people would.
Haitian zombies? Many slaves Haitian slaves believed that their masters would condemn their peers into a zombie like state. This could live on considering that lemoyne is still deeply rooted to slavery.

With the night folk, you saw it, and whatever it was ran at you with a machete, and took multiple bullets to the chest to take down.
That’s why Arthur is terrified of the night folk but puts the other stuff out of his mind. The rest of it is pure fantasy to him. The night folk? They’re real as can be.
I think the scariest one I’ve encountered, was when walking in the woods and there was a person hanging from a tree. I looked around to see if there was anyone there. Then three guys came out of the bushes and started attacking me.
That one freaked me out was my first encounter with the night people one dragged me right off my horse!

I actually had that encounter in the daylight, and I can say the bastards are just as freaky in the light

Dear God the bear attack at the beginning was brutal as hell
Edit: John telling the man who was attacked by the skinner to "just go to sleep now" was so sad to hear. Of course there was nothing he could do, that was his best way to sooth him.
the bear attack shocked the hell out of me. The only time I did that mission I ended up lying to the guy saying I couldn't find him. Guess it was lucky for that guy lol

The most cringeworthy part of the Lost Friend (near Cairn Lake) for me was when Arthur first finds the guy stretched out on the boulder. The sound of crackling ice as Arthur turns him over...
Gavin's friend is one of the most creepy encounters in my opinion. When you meet him as Arthur it's kinda funny, but when you see him turned insane when you're playing with John it gets really sad and kinda creepy

Actually I was just too immersed in the whole madness that didnt even think about anything. As soon as John said that, it seemed the only reasonable thing to do.
The crying woman was the scariest, it's also the only one that scares Arthur
There's another encounter I believe its a Stranger quest where Arthur sounds genuinely unnerved during the whole thing. I believe its one where you're killing off the Night Folk in order to reclaim someone's house and Arthur keeps yelling at them to say something or make some sort of noise. He is super uncomfortable about the Night Folk.

@@danktempsey6110 it can happen while you going throw the swamps at night. I had this encounter. As I can remember, there will be a guy who will ask you to help him (don't remember why exactly). You will get off your horse and go with this guy. There will be haze everywhere so you won't be able to see a thing, only the guy has a torch. You need to keep this guy safe by killing these night folk. Excuse me if I made some grammar mistakes. I'm Russian

I wish there would be a sidemission with Gavin or some leads who show where he is. Maybe... Maybe you find an arm, in this arm is an destroyed letter: „...to my best friend” and you find arms and legs with this letters and in the end you get a big letter and it will show you, that Gavin got killed (Murfees, Nightfolk, Skinners or an new character/gang) and his bodypieces got all around the map and there you go, another hell of an secret
It trips me out when the name Gavin pops up, not many people are named Gavin so I always think they're talking of me 😅😂

i love how seriously disturbed Arthur seems every time he encounters the night folk. The shake in his voice when he says "this damn swamp" or "creepy bastards!" gets me
They really are terrifying, I can feel badass around murfrees skinners etc knowing they're just hillbillies
(especially skinners, after the epilogue)
But the night folk are pretty much animals
We should bring Trevor from GTA 5 infront of the night folks, mufrees and skinners he would desimate them all

I look at it as the guy knew the end was inevitable, and rather than perform a mercy killing, I would allow this pour soul one final moment of peace. After all he had been through, it would be a very small victory, but a victory all the same.
ETA: And yes, it’s a testament to the quality of the game and its magnificent world that people like me take to heart the conditions of computer-generated characters and creatures. I can’t not hunt animals without a need for food and/or skins and whatnot, and I don’t care that it’s just a game. Just had to add that.
For the first one, you can actually save the man from getting killed by the bear. But you have to wait until the bear first starts attacking him and do a headshot on the bear. I managed to save him using my Springfield rifle. The hunter after you save him goes running off into the wilderness treating you as though you were actually shooting at him (non-hostile running NPC).
I commented the same thing. Told the guy the truth, saved him from the bear, and then he just takes off. I tried to track him but ended up losing him, and never saw him again.
Okay. I came here exactly for this comment because I did the same exact thing by chance. I stood by the guy but I was in an angle where I actually spotted the bear before it charged. By the time he was being mauled I had done enough damage.
A shame he walks away. I was hoping there was an option to take him to a doctor or something.
Its probably a bug. I tried recreating it but it only worked with Springfield and Bolt Actions and no other guns, even some that did more damage. And the hunter running off seems a lot like a bug rather than intentional.
Interesting. I recently came across this encounter, but by the time I found the guy, he was already dead. I had no idea you could save him and now I feel bad 😅
I did the same thing, just took out the pump shotgun woth slugs when it was attacking the man, though even if i saved him he just ran away and didnt do anything
The fact that these random encounters have this great level of voice acting blows my mind
I think that Rockstar should add a town in the snow, that would be nice to visit during a storm, a little saloon with a chimney, some hot rooms of an hotel with an hot bath, a gunsmith and a general store and a post office, i'd stay only there
I guess they didn't do that because they wanna make you feel lonely up there...

10:16 Roger Clarke’s acting skills in this one simple line are quite impressive
Dude you ain’t lying. Roger Clark’s ability to seemingly express the full of range of human emotions as a voice actor is one thing but when taking into consideration he had virtually no context for the scene he would be recording on any given day yet he still conveyed the appropriate emotion to the nth degree, delivering it with every bit of nuance characteristic of Arthur, and with such dead-on accuracy every single time, is an absolute testament to that man’s skill.
His voice sounded really scared with that one. Amazing acting skills indeed!

@TheRealistCee Dude wouldn't you? I mean think about the situation he (and by extension, you) were in. You stumble across this woman sobbing by herself in the middle of the swamp, in the middle of the night and she doesn't respond to anything you say. You go to help her and take her to a safe place and this woman suddenly lands a near fatal blow on you with a knife.
Then all of a sudden a bunch of these silent, murderous lunatics ambush you while you're still reeling from the earlier blow and after all is said and done, you barely get out alive.
If Arthur were any less strong willed, I would not have blamed him if he had collapsed and had a panic attack right then and there.
I had an encounter with the Night Folk similar to the spooked horse, there was a wagon with absolutely gruesome and gory corpses of something and I got off to investigate and they made a noise that scared my horse. Had me chasing it through the swamp before two attacked me, my horse ran again and when I got to it one was holding it and three more attacked me. They were stalking me the entire time clicking and hissing while I went after my horse. It was terrifying

They'll kill your horse if you aren't quick enough
I also had this encounter but the most terrifying part was that i could loose my horse or it will be killed by predators. I did not know of night folks back then, so i thought i got attacked by "zombie looking creatures".

The most messed up thing is that none of these are supernatural (well-the Night Folk MIGHT be…but we can’t be sure). All of this stuff could potentially happen in the real world.

Strange Man uploading while you just decided to rewatch some of his older videos
I’m jot even kidding, I have not watched him for almost a year and thought, “What was that channels name” and finally found it. I was watching his videos for the last hour and he just uploaded. Creepy
Stuff like that happens to me at least 5 times a week. It can get real weird sometimes, it’s a strange world.

I kinda saved him, i just waited bear attacks him, and killed the bear with bow with improved arrows or another powerful gun with high damage, then he run aways
@@labelnine wrong, you can't kill the bear until hes finished ripping the guys guts out. He was using explosive rounds from the bolt action and the bear wasn't fazed until the encounter is over.
I avoided the night in the swamp the entire first play through because of it's vibe. Now I go looking for trouble. The Night Folk tell the legend of Arthur Morgan.

When I did this mission it was in the middle of a blizzard so you could imagine how high my adrenaline was when the bear came out. Game was just too real and I loved it

The one where some Murfree brothers approach you while you are setting up a camp at night is also super creepy in my opinion. It's very unexpected and you wouldn't expect the game to allow that to happen. Great video as always!!

I had that happen after I got Mary beths fountain pen. I saw all the bodies in the house but it was dark and I wanted to see it in the morning. I set up camp as it’s starting to storm and then two Murfree brothers came out. And this was in chapter 2 of the game way before I should have encountered them. But an absolutely stunning and creepy encounter!
In my first playthrough where I encountered that, I kinda just let it play out. "Ohh. Real tough dudes. Fuck 'em I got some meat to cook."
In my second playthrough, I got up and just blasted them. I wasn't expecting Arthur to yell at them, tho. "I'll camp where I damn well please!" or something to that effect. I love the little details in this game.
Even worse, they have a trap where they shoot at you, spook your horse to buck you off and if you chase them you'll fall into a ditch with like 5 murfrees surrounding you. Scared the living shit outta me

During the clip of the Skinner Brothers massacre, you can even hear that creepy sound that some say is a woman screaming in the distance, and others say it's an animal. Either way, it adds to the creepiness.
During the skinner encounter, if you look around you will see more bodies either laying around or strung up on trees. I found 6 or 7 bodies tied around trees leading down a road. It was absolutely terrifying. I never want to go into the tall trees again after that.
its crazy that this game is 2 years old and you can still crank out videos with thousands of people watching...this game will never die in my opinion.

I'm on the second run-through but coasting it through and there is shit i miss during the first playthrough
@@Jesus_Zendejas well at least you know you can replay it. i focused my first playthrough only on the story, then for my second playthrough, i did A LOT of the side missions, strangers and stuff like that way more than the story.
I love games that seemingly have endless amounts of content to discover. It's one of the reasons I love this game.
@@DARKENINGTIMES oh yea. I didnt know there were random corpses on the map. So i saw the killer clue. I didnt know there were random rock carvings. I mean there is a lot so far i didnt notice the first time around. That was like stuff around Valentine and Strawberry. I was mostly on Chapter 2.
I remember after I encountered the Night Folk the first time, I refused to ride around the swamps at night for a while. It was just too creepy 😂 The swamps are already creepy enough without them. Rockstar did an excellent job with the sound design and the atmosphere.
I avoid going to Saint Denis at night if i dont have to, only for missions wise. Gives me the creeps that place.
Dude I stumbled upon them and I was like WTF IS THIS and then the mfers almost one stab killed me and HELL NO. I destroyed them all.

8:40 this whole encounter was really sad, but at this part it can give you chills, the way he says "you there?" you can tell he's no longer talking to Arther, perhaps he sees the spirits of his camp members and they are asking him to join them, it would explain why his last words are "I'm coming", he's telling his friends that he'll join them, and that's really sad.
I think GTA 23 will be out before all secrets have been discovered in Red dead Redemption 2

the one random (?) encounter that really scared me happened near fishing spot in the swamps. there was a wagon with a horse skeleton in it, and vulture sitting on the side of the wagon. i shot the vulture and the screen flashed. nothing else really happened, but i read somewhere that you're supposed to follow your horse when it runs off from it. i didn't, so nothing came of it.
Now that's curious.
In my experience with the Night Folk in the swamp, I saw a hanging dead man on a noose on a tree. I shot him down to try to loot him which I can't. But then just as I turned my camera around, that's when I saw the Night Folk for the first time. I screamed and panicked because I thought they were ghosts or zombies from Undead Nightmare! As I was still a beginning player at that time, I almost forgot how to equip and aim my gun. But I did managed to kill them all.
On my first playthrough, I was learning the game controller and keeping up as best I could with the demands of the game until I ran into the night folk and I just lost it.
In terms of night folk all I've found so far is a note from a victim mentioning how he saw them in his nightmares before they appeared to hunt him
I was running around Butcher creek at night, and something invisible shoved me over. Like I was walking with my lantern, and even though there wasn't any obstacles in the middle of the road, or any NPC's around, I kept getting pushed over. Something kept knocking me over. This ties in well with the rumors of a demon lurking in Butcher creek
Plus there’s also that pentagram under that building in the area
Maybe a goat they attack you for no reason

The corpse cart was my first introduction to the Murfree Brood when I was just exploring the map during my first playthrough. It was also my introduction to their horses, which I found to be the ugliest creatures ever...anyway I took her home, named her Dot and she was my Horse until the very end. I loved that ugly horse 😭
It’s a good thing you did cause looking at those horses they were probably abused, underfed, and god knows what so you taking it in was probably the best thing to ever happen to it

My introduction to them was when I set up a campfire on a hill near their mountain. 2 ugly fella's threatened they'd kill me if they saw me again. Cool experience.
The way Arthur says “creepy bastards” at the end 🥺 he’s never scared, but you can tell he was genuinely TERRIFIED there.
I wasn’t too scared by the night folk in my game because I actually encountered them in the middle of the day. The only thing that scared me in this game is when you have to go to the slaver man’s house to get his things. Just the general vibe of the place scared me and I could tell there was gonna be someone there. Still scared me on my second play through too.
In tall trees sometimes you meet dead people riding horse with multiple arrows,quite intimidating i have to say.
That happens near beachers hope too a little far from blackwater

I think a great encounter is when you fall into a Murfree brood pit. I was genuinely surprised when I ran after them and got stuck in a hole

According to the wikia, there's one where you can find a man slowly riding his horse before he falls off dead. Inspecting his corpse shows that his eyes are gouged out and the left side of his face has no skin.
Edit: It can happen in different locations across the map, but I found him on the bridge near Caliga Hall.

In my first playthrough I was walking in the swamp, a guy ran from right to the left behind a tree. Only a few meters from me, I ran there to look but there was nobody. That really spooked me out
looking at the crying girl encounter they seem to be good in getting into trees, imagine if he was right above you and looking up would've triggered him to jump on you

A group of them attacked when I was just having Arther travel at night. My horse ran off and I was shooting them all one by one. What I'll never forget that almost haunts me is that there was a single fat guy with an ax walking towards Arther as I was shooting the other people. Not running, just walking with his ax out unblinking and he fucking one shotted me because I thought I could get him last. That damn slow unblinking walk fucking terrified me.
I was thinking that I've never come across the night folk before, but my horse was spooked one time in the middle of the night out there, and I was confused as to what happened. I've been super oblivious when playing this game.
Night folk are the creepiest! One encounter they scared my horse and held him so he wouldn't come to me when I whistled then they actually lured me to a trap...a hole in the ground covered with branches and leaves. That was my favorite creepiest encounter! I wish they would have kept some of the gang encounters in after you complete the game. I know that by then you have beaten all the gangs and basically get rid of them, but still....would be cool to still have those encounters continue.

I’m surprised campsite that looked like it was ambushed by The Skinners didn’t make this list or part 2’s. I came across a campsite (I believe was in tall trees) and there were decapitated heads and bodies with blood and guts every where. It was quite disturbing.

I rode into an area, I think in Skinner territory, where bodies were hanging from trees and I noped out of there because it was likely a trap. The interesting part was a rider who passed me as I retreated. He was headed where I was fleeing so I decided to follow to see how an NPC would react to the carnage. He noped out too! With dialog I hadn't heard before! The attention to detail, in this game, is incredible.

From what I remember there is a hanging body in the swamp with a note attached to it and if you free the body the Nightfolk hiding nearby ambush you.

Mine was the hanging corpse in the tree, literally detailing that he was being watched by them. Then they come out of no where. Survived, but I don't go there at night no more. Its "Just a game" but I feel the way the NPC's and Characters do about the swamps.
My first encounter with them was a corpse hanging On a tree i wanted to take a good look at it and then i heared this typical "sssss" thought it was a Snake so i didnt Care about it then i saw on minimap 5 (i think) red dots and that was the moment when i realized that its not snakes and second after that saw 3 guys running in my way i got so fucking scared that i missed "esc" button 2 Times to pause the game
I got my controls all muffled and got stabbed 🤣 it shit me up though. The bayou was all foggy as hell aswell.
Also the first time i encountered the ghost i was fishing and suddenly there was some crazed womens voice in yhe back ground but i couldnt see her. Ended up googling it ACE GAME
I love the swamps and the fact they surround the biggest safe haven in the game. Civilisation surrounded by nothingness and death. Really cool idea and shows the danger of travelling in those times

When you think about it, you can't really save anyone. The man is mauled by the bear, and when you mislead him he still rides into the bear's direction. The women you help in the cart runs right back into the forest, most likely back to the Murfees and the guy shot whose had been shot with the arrow was too far gone so john could only comfort him.

Why I love this damn game so much! Its a vibrant and living world. You always feel like there's something new over the next hill and more times than not there is. 140+hrs and I still feel like I'm not even close to exploring it.

During the part of the game where the gang is hanging out at Lakay, I was thrown from my horse. When I tried whistling for it to come back, it would not obey and just stood in the middle of the swamp. I had another horse with me and just used that one instead. So then I came back to Lakay after free roaming and found my main horse dead at the entrance of the camp...
I would have burned everyone in that swamp alive after spending over 1k on my horse plus all the upgrades and time needed to get it to rank 4
The night folk got your horse if you walked towards it they wouldve attacked you

I’m sorry for your loss. If that’d happened to my horse Monster, I would of been devastated.
In the bear mission I managed to save the guy. I put myself right where I should have the bear's head in front of me.
This way, the bear came from another direction and the guy got on his horse and ran away. However, the dialogue breaks down and the quest ends there.
I saved him as well. It's possible to kill the bear if you start early, you gotta get shots in long before it reaches the guy.
I had to follow you just based on the amazing work you do editing your videos. You make it so high quality and very intense. Amazing work.
Fun fact: During the Marko Dragic mission where you implant the electrical conductors you can spot two wolves howling at the top of the cliff to the east
They also get struck by lightning.
I love al these small details they put in. I think there's also a time/place you ca find a wolf howling over it's dead mate. It's sad, but really nice when playing the game!

One of the scariest Night Folk-related encounters to me was the one where you find a mutilated horse in a cart and you’ll hear a distant scream if you shoot the vulture next to it.
Once when the gang's camp was in Lagras,while i walking in the swamps back to camp,i saw that chart,when i came close,my horse was scared,and run into the swamps,so i check the minimap,and i whistle to call my horse but i see only my saddle,and no alligator around my horse,weird as hell

@@micahbelllll8030 It's a night folk encounter. When your horse runs into the trees, night folk will try to kill him. Idk if you, but I had also night folk creeping on me and running from tree to tree during that encounter.
Strange I have the legendary Arabian and it got scared and ran into the swamp. I chased after it immediately and had my pump shotty out whistling. I could hear my horse screaming like something was attacking it and when I got up to it there was nothing there. Just my horse freaking out. I used tracking mode to try to find any trace of an alligator or people and nothing. I do think I remember my horse health being very low but I might be wrong. If it was an animal there would have been a trail.
Watching these always makes me wanna hop back on RDR2 to get these encounters.

@NerfBeard ' exactly. after 100% completion the game is dead. Of course you can always start playing story again but it can also get quite boring after awhile since you already know whats going to happen etc. Hoping for some new content even if it probably will never happen, because after all this game is my all time favorite. :/

The weeping woman scared the shit outta me boi. I didn't see the nightfolk and even didn't know that they exist. I just saw a little man running towards me and murdered me. I was so scared.
I had never encountered the night folk until this. I went out to check on the crying woman. She cut me and as I started shooting, one of them was behind me and hacked me in the neck with a cleaver and killed me.
After killing every night folk, I captured the "woman"... Turned out that he was a male hahahaha

It still scared the crap outta me
I was genuinely terrified at the crying woman. Especially when the caption said she was inspired by la llorona. I literally expected Arthur to get drowned by a ghost. She is i do believe that and she terrifies me.
