- Our Ex pro downhill racer turned GMBN presenter Neil Donoghue is back in the race paddock to take on his first proper DH race in 12 years! He grew up racing downhill with people such as Steve Peat, Josh Bryceland, and Brendan Fairclough, and made a living as a pro for many years! Let's see how Neil does back between the race tape! 🏁

Have you ever entered a Downhill bike race? Would you?
No but I'm too old now lol
Nope, I find I go down hill faster off of the bike than on it so try to stick to slowly jumpy fun rather than this sort of stuff. If you fancy training up a noob with cajones bigger than his skill set then by all means!
Todays practice day on my first enduro but I havent gotten into DH racing yet
Yes back when we were riding bonified city bikes with plastic dampers and toys R us brakes... Fun
would love to but i dont know where to find them
Neil is my favourite GMBN guy
@@Paososh and scotty if you remember him…
12 years away from the game and you got a podium spot ...well in Neil your giving inspiration to an old dog here in Ireland
Thanks, I loved being back out there trying to find a fast run, but not being quite as reckless as a younger me.
THE DON! Rock on, Neil, rock on bud. I gotta live a bit vicariously here, it's awesome you got to show your family 'what you do'. That's awesome man. I wish you the best on your journey as a veteran DHer.
Thank you 🙏
Neil this was great to watch. You can really see how much racing is a part of you. Third place first time out in 12 years seems really awesome to me! Love this content
And who else was in his category 🤦🏼♂️
Yes Neil smash it mate! Always think you are the best rider on the GMBN staff (don't tell the others)
His career results overall are nothing to sneeze at, he's a very fast and competent pro level rider 🤘
12 year layoff and you came third?! Amazing
It’s amazing after that 12 year hiatus.
Spoiler alert in the first comment 🤦♂️
12 years off? Except for all that riding his bike for GMBN that he does, it's not like he's been working in Tesco since then is it?
@@alexpeartree2019 Big difference between presenting and racing surely? If you think its easy you know what you need to do.
@@linea2000 You might need to brush up on your comprehension skills there. At no point did I say it was easy, my point was at least some of the skills the Don possesses to perform the way he did, and continues to do, will have been at least to some extent kept honed by constant riding that he does now. I'm sure that if I had been a very successful rider, then had a period off competing whilst showing other people how to ride on some of the best riding the world has to offer, I'd probably do OK when I went back as a veteran. Since I spend most of my life commenting on youtube and sleeping, if I took 12 years off from that, worked for a channel that tested many types of bed, I reckon I'd still be here, telling you that you'd missed the point.
Much love Neil. Glad to see you still have that drive 😁 not easy with a full time job and mini-you to care for!
Congrats on the podium 👌
Awesome! Love to see you back between the tape Neil!
Neil that's awesome!! Looking good!! Even better now your kids are able to watch you send it🤙🏻
Great episode Neil!! Happy Fathers Day to you and all the Dads at GMBN!
Well done Neil! Fantastic to see The Don back in racing action! I have to say though, I was half expecting to see Owen help you out with your bike set-up! Looking forward to the next vid!
Fantastic content. We want to see more DH racing from Neil on the channel. I've never seen the Don look happier on a video!!
🏆🎉Fantastic Neil that is awesome! Keep racing and making videos of it please.
The Don is back! Well done,Neil! Hope to see you racing more.
Great stuff mate, just over the border in Gobowen here...was trying to point out One Giant Leap when my wife and I went to the Eisteddfod in Llan a few weeks back...
👍
Having ur kids see u doing what u love is always precious❤
Great job Neil .. total respect .. keep up the great work both racing and on the channel .. 👏
I’ve been waiting a long time to see this. I always thought you should do some these vids, you’re a legend. And it just goes to show… you can’t teach an old don new tricks…😂
Wish you all the luck, Neil!
Yes Neil!!! Excited for this and looking forward to seeing your passion for racing come back to life. Sweet bike to be riding for this project ; )
Thank u Neal " the Don" waitin for more of ur races😊😊
Awesome result, you still got it! 😎
Awesome video, man. really good to see people keeping with the spprt
Fantastic vid. Congratulations on father's day and your podium 👍
Awesome video, that bike storage thing is awesome, I could use one for my house as well. Now someone needs to help me what it is 😂
I think it's a SpaceRail. Does look tempting.
Stashed Spacerail, it is very handy
Amazing stuff! And very excited to see how you compare to the current pros :D
nice, great to see, follow your passion
We done Neil, and on flats 😅 would like to see more racing from you guys
It seems wrong for me to ride a DH bike with clips
Good morning Niel! good job man that was a great video. One of my favorite creators
Well done Neil...do it for the old boys !!!😁
Thank you for taking us through this Neil and GMBN. Excellent video!
The Don is back 👊 Great film
Get in there Don, first race back, top
effort 👌
at 1:56 you can see scratches on the paint already. Was this bike used? How is the paint so fragile if it's a new bike? Welcome back to racing, cannot wait to follow your videos from events. Record everything! Logistics, food, training, mindset - everything!
I signed up to my first enduro in October, France, afraid and excited :D
Well done Neil 👏
Wait until you graduate from veteran to vintage!
Seriously, I love the 1st person POV; I love seeing how a pro chooses their line. Sometimes it's apparent to me and other times, it's a head scratcher; but always fun to learn!
Funny when i watched it I started to question a couple of my lines
Well done Neil 👍 Sounds like you had a great couple of days!
Bad ass! Happy fathers day indeed 🎉🎉 i attended my very first enduro race this year at 42. So fun ! Third one coming up, mens masters 40-44 - all at ride rock creek. Good luck in your next one, following 🎉🎉
Nice one Neil. More please!
Dude well done!!
Such a clean bike
Awesome video & race result mate! ❤
Smashed it man!! Wow!
What a great video Neil, excellent to watch and seemed very much like a VLOG we get from the other TH-camrs.
I would like to see the full race runs like in Deaks or Jono's video's but I guess the GMBN editors have to hack it up and put the music on top.
I was wondering as I was watching if there was going to be a chance Neil would ride in the World Cup as, of course, GMBN being owned now by the main broadcaster! And it would appear this may be the case?
Maybe this could lead to a GMBN team with management etc from Neil or someone similar to what Ben Cathro did with PinkBike!?
Looking forward to the future vids, hopefully with greater length!
Neil's new bike is sick as
Nice one Neil. Enjoy your racing, can't wait to see more.
Needs to be a series.
Great run
Good to see you back getting after it!
You gave me some Gee Atherton vibes when commenting next to the track
wee Neil the pocket rocket!
great video thanks
Good luck competing again!
Pretty damned impressive! 🔥👊🏻
really enterntaining to watch :D
still can't get myself to ever use anything with newman written on it again
also a little piece of constructive criticism if i may:
pls use windcovers on the gorpo, the wind and the breathing in the garage were really offputting
We need more dh content guysss
#AskGMBN Really enjoyed this episode particularly as Neil is the same age and height as me, but with 99.9% more skills and experience. However....@6:01 Donoghue!!! Where the hell do you think you get off! Why has that gorgeous creature not been featured on any videos?! Blake and Rich have had their beauties ;- ) on screen... At least can we have her name please?
He is Paddington, new edition to the family. He's a 3 month old Labradoodle (Labrador with style)
That was fun to watch. The first bloke didn’t get any faster you gained 2+ seconds 👍
Beautiful bike.
i want more details on that sliding bike hanger!
Very impressive.
Looks like fun 👍🏻
Spring chicken done well!!! I am really interested in what vehicle you drive there and that set up…
Yes the Don, more age group racing ❤ more relatable for us.
Great content, look forward to more.
Shout out to the star of the show: the fluffy doggo! Doggo is love, doggo is life!
That bike hanger system you have at home is very cool that brand is it? or where can you get the parts to make one?
I wanna give downhill racing a go when do the sessions start and where does one enter to race ?
Great vid 👍
I defo need go there n Dyfi tho Neil bro n ye I do own a dh rig lol. Did u meet our lil pal Skelly lol she's a belta
Go Neil!!!
Good thing it isn't a Canyon. If a proprietary part broke you would be left with thousands of dollars worth of paperweight since Canyon doesn't keep spares of their own proprietary parts leaving their customers stranded without bikes indefinitely
Honest question, why not leave the addis ultra soft Magic marry and the big betty on??
I know this Channel has a preference for the Mazas
but shoudnt they perform as good?
What’s that bike hanger in the garage?
Need one.
neil is rapid!!!
So awesome bike
Third? Doing us old timers proud. Well done!
RESPECT
Neil on Propain. What a great reason to head to Squamish for a ride with @remymetalier
yes please
Where did you get that bike rack???? Need it 😬😬😬
I take it that 8th place Steve Jones was not the EMBN steve Jones?
Are Propaine Bikes made by the same company that produces Nukeproof? The font looks the same to me. Pardon my ignorance ;).
No, they are different. Propain is German brand. Nukeproof was a founded in USA brand bought by Irish and produced in Ireland till the beginning of this year.
Oh this is wild!
What's the pups name!?
Paddington
sick bike
Neil you've really impressed these women 😂🎉 don't let the Mrs see the comments😅
nothing like a dog in the bike garage keeping one company
Do a video? Can I qualify for a World Cup ?
It's 2024 and you don't support 4K really!!
That camera angle is terrible. It does no justice to the amount of work you’re doing or how chunky the trail is.
Suspect limited by race rules on camera location
Wtf is the add on screen casting you can't get rid of..grr.
not running clips for a race is diabolical
Flat pedal, win medals 🥉
Disc brakes on kids bikes? Do these people even have kids?! I'm sure they can find another spot on the bike to put sharp metal blades on that would make more sense... get a clue!
Disc brakes have been widely accepted to prevent considerably more accidents than they cause. 'Decent stopping power when it's needed > a slim chance of cutting yourself on a rotor' seems to be the direction the industry have taken!
Can I have your old bike ?? Plssss
I’m a big fan
