  • An American Werewolf in Paris is one of the most hated horror sequels ever made. Despite its many glaring flaws, I've always gotten some guilty pleasure out of this one.

Claude does say his motivation. It's to cleanse the world of disease make a superior race.
It's brief but he tells Andy when he wants to know if he'll join them and kill his friend
Also, I'm super glad this finally got a review and one that didn't torch it either. Such a fun nostalgia movie.

AWIP doesn’t deserve the hate. The only complaint is the CGI is outdated. I loved the soundtrack.

Yeah, we pretty much knew it was bad when we were filming...🤣
BTW, your assessment of the CGI werewolves was spot on. At the time, it was total cutting edge. It was the first time you saw hair move on CGI animal.
GREAT PICKUP on how my character was pretty much forgotten about. I actually wasn't in the original ending. When they showed the film to test audiences, EVERYONE said, Where the hell is Chris???" So they added, and shot the wedding "Statue of Liberty" scene a full year later, which is why Tom, and I had different haircuts. You were right. It WAS an afterthought.🤣

I’m excited to hear Cody’s opinion on the wolfman from 2010. That movie came out everyone bashed it and I still to this day don’t understand why. I thought it was the best werewolf movie they ever made. Next to wolf with Jack Nicholson

      @Kurtsg10 ปีที่แล้ว

I will respectively disagree. Any serious horror movie that has a laughably bad CGI rampage scene like the wolfman 2010's in London is not the best werewolf movie ever made. However, Wolf with Jack Nicholson is certainly underrated. Personally, I love Silver Bullet, the Howling, Late Phases, Ginger Snaps, Dog Soldiers, Bad Moon, and an American Werewolf in London.

Watching this movie without worrying about the London tie in makes it a truly great horror comedy
I hate the CGI and as you said tie in London and this movie goes off the rails just because the CGI does not hold a candle to the impact of the practical effects of London. As a story it’s fantastic. The effects and werewolf visuals completely fail.

I'm watching it on TV again after not having seen it in twenty years, and I'm having fun with it. Yes most of the CGI is bad, even for 97', and some of the scenarios aren't the best, but it's a fun watch and kind of hilarious at times. I also think the practical FX are excellent! Hope we get a 3rd film soon! The opening bungy scene was clever too.

    Cody,
Really balance and fair review on the movie. I’m an 80s kid so the original movie was part of my childhood. This sequel does have some good comedic moments (the condom joke) but the cgi special effects are awful and take me out of the movie to include the bungee jump scene at the end.

It would've been a cool continuation if they mention the events of the 1st film. Plus the character of Sérafine could've been the daughter of David Kessler & Nurse Alexandra Price & the werewolf the was shot in the beginning of the original film was a member of the werewolf society. That would've been a great idea. Plus would've mention after David was shot & killed, a month later Nurse Price finds out that she's pregnant with David's child then afterwards raised her daughter & got married to a scientist who could help cure the werewolf gene that Sérafine inherited. Also we could've seen ghost versions of Alexandra Price & David Kessler seeing they're daughter finally defeating the curse & saying they're goodbyes until going to the afterlife.

While I enjoyed both American werewolf in London, and in Paris one Werewolf film that never gets it’s due is Hammer’s Curse of the Werewolf, an absolutely brilliant film from 1961 it stars a very young Oliver Reed, only in his early 20’s. The film not only looks fabulous but the make up for the time is especially good. Unfortunately the BBFC at the time, took a pair of scissors to it just to remove some of the gore. Great thing is it’s still has enough to keep the interest. The Werewolf transformations are well handled, worth a look as it’s a slightly different take on the well trod story.

Agree wholeheartedly. I don’t love this movie but I have always liked it since I saw it in the theatre as well.
Things I liked about it the most are some of its creepy atmospheric shots like the werewolf slowly coming around the corner in the sewers, the glowing eyes in the dark before it attacks, those are the kind of shots I always visualised in my head and when I saw the movie there they were!
Paris is not a great movie but it’s decent and definitely not worth the total put downs it gets.

I actually saw this one before London, and have to say even though it was a cheeseburger with extra cheese, I liked it. But once you see London you have to ask yourself wow how did we ho from this to Paris, but if they unhinged it and let it stand on it's own it would have been a great popcorn horror/comedy movie. I don't know how it would do at the time with general public but just in my opinion seems like the thing to do, as the contrast was so much, don't get me wrong I love the Evil Dead Series, from dead serious to cheeseburger extra cheese please 😂
I don't know for some reason I just think this shouldn't have been the follow up to London. Perhaps uf it was a bit more serious I could see it. Ethier way though I like the movie.

I agree with you, Cody. I enjoy this movie. I think the CGI isn't bad, especially considering it's 90's CGI. I've seen movies with high budgets made after this that had far worse CGI. Of course, when you compare to the original, it's not going to be anywhere near as good, but were people really expecting it to be? I enjoy it for what it is, a fun 90's werewolf movie. Great review!

Um, it's not Delpy, it's... OMD her name IS Julie Delpy! I've always called her Julie Deply!

I almost grew up on this movie, but even as a kid, I couldn't get through it. I've loved 'London' since I was about 7 years old and 'Paris' just seemed so lame. Maybe I'll try again!

Though I wouldn't call it a Werewolf movie; I think Wolfen was a good one as well. I was born in the 70s so I was a kid in the 80s. My favorite 80s horror movies is C.H.U.D. I absolutely hate CGI..

Never could get into this one. I'm a big Tom Everett Scott fan ( That Thing You Do is still one of my top movies ) and that couldn't even save this one for me.
