I enjoy your video as always. Petchaboon is one of my top fav province. I've been to Wat Pha Sorn Kaew Temple 4 times and still blown me away every time. The sunrise with the sea of fog at the temple is amazingl as well. Hope you visit Phu Tab Berk and Khao Kho National Park in the next episode.

The Five precepts or five rules of training is the most important system of morality for Buddhist lay people. They constitute the basic code of ethics to be respected by lay followers of Buddhism. The precepts are commitments to abstain from killing living beings, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying and intoxication.

14:00 the meaning of five Buddha statues is from the tale of Buddha and his prophecy of the next Buddha
This tale began with, throughout human race history, now we live in the latest 29 Kalpa periods (Kalpa in english called "Aeon"). In this latest 29 Kalpa period, there are five Buddhas who would be born, found the enlightenment and became the Lord Buddha. The current Buddha in our human race history was the forth Buddha named Gotama who once was a prince in Shakya clan (a northern India kingdom) before becoming the Buddha. Before passing away to final Nirvana, he gave the prophecy about the last Buddha in our 29 Kalpa periods. He told his disciples that in the future (might be the next million years from now on) there will be the next Buddha who will be born and become the fifth Buddha and his name is Metteyya or Maitreya (in Sanskrit), his height will be 40 meters tall (which is the tallest Buddha of these five Buddhas) and his lifetime will be 80,000 years old (our current Buddha was only 80 years). This is the reason why the fifth Buddha statue was built in the biggest size and wearing the golden high crown on top (in Thai called Chada) means he will be the next Buddha.
The meaning of the golden armband on the third Buddha means "The Middle Way Practice", it is the key every Buddha used to find the enlightenment. The gold color represents the most valuable thing we wants, for buddhists is to escape a cycle of suffering and rebirth (attaining Nirvana). Hence, the third statue represents to being in the middle ,not too much and not too little (the third one is in the middle of five statues). When you combine these two meanings it means
"To achieve the release from the round of phenomenal existence with its inherent suffering (The endless cycle of reincarnation), you have to hold to the Middle Way principles."

Honestly, Paddy, your videos become better and better every week. You really seem to have found your personal tone lately, and it's beautiful. I also really appreciated that you took some time to share some in-depth information about that incredible temple! It made the video even more enjoyable and added another level of professionalism.
The five Buddha statue represents the five different Buddhas that will appear in our current aeon, according to Buddhist cosmology. Four of them have already appeared, and the one we know as the historical Buddha was number four. The longer ago they lived on Earth the smaller they are in the statue. The fifth one is currently a _bodhisattva_ that's waiting in the _Tusita_ heaven (or _Tushita_ in Sanskrit) for the right time to be reborn one final time on Earth to become an enlightened being. His name is Metteyya (or _Maitreya_ in Sanskrit) and in the statue he's depicted with the intricate crown that _devas_ (heavenly beings) have in Buddhist art, rather than as a Buddha. That's because he is currently a deva and isn't enlightened yet.
The third Buddha was named Kassapa. I'm not sure why he's depicted with a golden stripe, but it could be because there's a Buddhist legend about a man who donated a golden brick for the construction of Kassapa's shrine after he passed from this Earth. For his deed the man was rewarded with a beautiful golden complexion when he was reborn. Perhaps the artist wanted to replicate the effect with this statue and add a golden detail to get beautiful bright skin in their next life?
Love your videos, Paddy! Keep up the good work! 💕

You are the star for vlogs. Stunning videography, witty comments, humoresque, lots of learning offered, and always making appetite for more. I don't think you ever want to go back to your teaching job. Plan how to continue this epic way of bringing endless joy to us. As you said, Thai are inventive in the small things as well and once you covered the big things you see, you can continue to offer the "In Thailand only" things and you will never be out of new material. I'm so much looking forward to come back to Thailand early next year and be together again with my Thai friend and help her on the farm but also do trips to enjoy life. When I see your vlogs, I miss it and Thailand feels like home to me already. I'm German, living in Ireland, but homesick for Thailand.

What are the 5 Buddhist values? I found this relating to the number 5.
    The Five Precepts
Refrain from taking life. Not killing any living being. ...
Refrain from taking what is not given. Not stealing from anyone.
Refrain from the misuse of the senses. Not having too much sensual pleasure. ...
    Refrain from wrong speech. ...
Refrain from intoxicants that cloud the mind.

I know you don't care Paddy but they do have some very good coffee farms in Phetchabun. What a beautiful temple wat! The Five Buddhas are aspects of the dharmakaya "dharma-body", which embodies the principle of enlightenment in Buddhism.

The large Buddha with the crown represents ordinary consciousness, within this Buddha a new more refined consciousness arises, shielded from outer distractions by the larger Buddha. With each arising, consciousness becomes cumulatively more profound. This is a typical meditation technique.

The best time to visit phetchabun is Oct-Jan. On march it maybe hot, dry with some smokey air. Don't won't to make you disappoint but just give you some info.

That's the five Buddhas of this eternity period..
The biggest one is the final, the grandest of the five, Metrai Buddha who'll enlighten in the future, next to our era.
The 2nd biggest is the first, the progenitor of all Buddhas in this eternity, Kakusandh Buddha.
The middle one is Konagaman Buddha, the successor.
The 2nd one from the front is Kassap Budha. The previously enlightened one.
The one in front is Gotam Buddha or Angiras, the current Buddha, our teacher.
The sizes of each Buddha image reflect how extensive the time they've used to fulfill their merits to become a Buddha.
Note that there's no ranking between Buddhas. The one taken the most of time to fulfill Buddhaship reflects his greatness in perserverance. And the one taken the least of time reflect his greatness in wisdom. Gotam Buddha also named the next ten Buddhas to come after this eternity ends in Tipitaka.

Paddy I to tried finding out more information, I have sent out feelers to my yoga friends..I spent a year getting my certification in yoga..From what I can tell it has something to do with the subtle versions of oneself..Buddhism is unorthodox versus Hinduism beliefs system is orthodox..
If I find out more I'll share..
Thanks for sharing this gem..so gorgeous..

Wat Pha Sorn Khao is 20 minutes from my home. So pleased to see you enjoying this amazing temple. There are some parts that are only accessible if accompanied by one of the head monks that are quite spectacular, if you are still in the area reach out to us as we have contact with the temples head monk.

    I smile when I heard "Temple-Fatigue".
    >>> On the hilltop, there is a cave where many of the Thang Daeng villagers used to see a flying marble in the sky that flies to this cave. The villagers believed it to be the Buddha's spirit.

The fact that there are five Buddhas here is that in this era called "kup" (a very long period of time) contains 5 Buddhas. And they take turn coming into being, one at a time. The smallest one is the first which was long gone. Now we are in the period of the 4th Buddha. All temples, all things about Buddhism we have seen in this world now are mostly of the 4th Buddha. The 5th Buddha is the next in line. He will come to this world long after the religion of the now Buddha disappear. Now he is staying in the heaven waiting for the right time to be born, maybe million and million of years after this.
