I love that Shirley was giving truly constructive criticism, and actually helped make the meals better. Something that I didn’t realize no one else has really done on this show
Honestly, the mark of a truly good chef. It's not "Ah, this is broken.". It's "Oh, you're 95% of the way there. How can we make this 100?%?". Teamwork makes the dream work.

@@thomgizziz okay, you're either someone who really struggles with the idea of being a part of a team/needs to feel in control to get things done, or just truly an internet troll looking to create some rage (if it's the latter, you clearly have already gotten that reaction from a couple people.) this thought isn't totally flawed, but it depends on the context. in this context, she is a renowned chef who is giving Josh really helpful feedback while telling him what she likes and doesn't like. that's how you *learn*. i'm an artist, if i didn't have people to critique my work who are more technically skilled than me to tell me what's looking right, and give me feedback as to what can make it better, i would never really improve because i'd never figure out what i'm doing that's not working.
in a situation where you are told you cannot speak up, where the critique is actually flat out criticism, and they are taking credit for your work while forcing you to do it their way, which i would say is a common situation in a lot of creative field workplaces, complementing the manager on their good work is just bullshit and giving them credit where credit is not due. (same goes the other way when people criticize creators of something as if they were given a choice instead of just being told to do it by their boss.) you're not wrong in general but in this situation i think you're looking at it much too cynically.
Such an awesome guest she seems so friendly and funny. Her ability to fix the final dish so quickly also shows how good of a chef she really is. You can tell she's worked hard to where she is at and she's not stuck up about it.
Yeah. The final dish was a great display of skill. Its a simple fix, but she honed in on all the flavors and almost instantly knew what it was missing to make it perfect
She is weird and full of herself when she obviously is insecure.

i commented, the guest should also cook using the ingredient, then there is a blind taste test to see which is better.
I would be VERY interested in how the Chopped editors would choose to portray Josh, as well as how Josh would choose to portray himself
I think Josh is far too nice for Chopped.
They really should do a chopped episode with the top TH-cam chefs it would certainly be creative and get a ton of views

I havent seen anyone else say this so I'll say it. The respect Josh has for her is palpable. He is not acting nearly as wild. For as large of a personality as Josh has it speaks volumes that he's toned himself down for this chef. It's just awesome witnessing it.
It shows that he really cares about her opinion and feedback.
Actually, I think a Master Chef - TH-camr's edition can be a very entertaining idea. Josh vs Babish vs Joshua Weissman and many others? I'd definitely watch that. Hope the producers see this.

The only thing about ideas like this is that they’d be incredibly hard to organize. Babish lives in New York, Joshua in Texas, and Josh in California
Shirley is one of my favorite guests that has been on this series. She's so honest and funny.
She's immediately and immensely likeable. As soon as she walked in at the beginning I knew I would enjoy her personality.
Josh with the giant cheesy grin as she gushed over the entree was awesome, you could see how proud he was! Please, please, please invite Shirley back, she was such a great guest and judge. This was top 3 of this series easily for me.
She's such a good sport, she lets Josh taste the dessert she fixed and then Josh just shoves duck bill Pringles into her mouth and she just goes along with it, best part of the episode! 🤣
You guys should get the chef guests to compete with you using the ingredient.

Watching this series has made me realize that Josh really enjoys French cooking techniques.
I'd guess it's less about being super into French cookery and more that the French basically pioneered the art of being a chef and most formal cooking techniques are probably French.
The thing about cooking is that people have been doing it for very long time. I wouldn't necessarily say the techniques are originally french but they and the Chinese really need to be thanked for documenting them
At this point, if Ramsey can do Hot Ones, he can do Mythical Kitchen. Josh and crew are right there IMHO.
Only if Josh actually rips him apart/gets into a serious conversation about various things. I have no interest in seeing Josh kowtow to him just to have a celebrity guest.

I really love the Energy that Shirley Chung brought to this episode! It was more like a collaboration on the dishes at the tasting point instead of "I would write this" or "Keep on truckin" like some of the others. Honestly, really cool vibe.
This series is incredible, these guests are absolute home runs. Super comfortable in front of the camera, able to play off Kitchen Man Jorsh's insanity, I love it! MK on FIRE as of late.
That whole thing was cringe... do you all just applaud like trained seals on command? You probably went to "Latest MCU thing" and clapped and cried because it was expected of you.
OK last episode I said I wanted to hang out with Mitchell... and this time I am equally enamored with Shirley. I need a casual conversational podcast with these guests!! like no agenda of this vs that like on A Hotdog is a Sandwich... but like just getting Josh and Nicole to have on guests like Shirley Chng or Mitch and just talk to them about life and food for like 2 hours
Shirley was so FUN! You can tell she had a blast doing this, loved her.
Josh is just a solid chef, he's putting out these dishes with weird ingredients that have top tier chefs and food critics taking a pause and actually saying that they're pretty decent, and the catch is, it's not like he's making the same dish over and over to perfect it which shows you his skill level. If he had time to do so he could hone the flavors, and put out high quality food out of some nonsense.
Yes and all TV shows are 100% real...

Shirley was a great guest! And I'm 100% for getting Josh on Chopped. Seriously I want to see what he'd do in that setting. Pure chaos but I think he'd make it through to the entree and maybe even the dessert round based on ideas alone. He's so inventive and then just leans in hard to the dish every time and that would suit him well on Chopped; plus he seems like he has a super wide base of food knowledge and could pull from various cultures with ease.
I actually thought you would only crumble Pringles into the dough of the Tarte Tatin. Cookies with potato crisp pieces (plain salted) are amazing. But that would have been too safe, of course. 😄

Josh I still feel like you should do an episode with Gordon Ramsay. He has made a statement that anytime he goes to a restaurant that serves a wellington he orders it. You should do a "Will it Wellington" episode where you make the usual one but then also may some not so common ones and see how he feels about them.
