- Professional chef Saúl Montiel from Cantina Rooftop and home cook Emily are swapping ingredients and hitting the kitchen to make their best ravioli. We set our home cook Emily up with $170 worth of supplies - everything she’d need to make Saúl’s recipe. Meanwhile, a modest $15 worth of ingredients was sent back the other way for chef Saúl to elevate into something gourmet. As is customary, food scientist Rose dialed in to assist our dear Emily with a few questions she had along the way. Which of these ravioli would you pick?

I love this pairing because they just meld together so well! Saul is so good at not only staying to the ingredients he gets, but also making it a challenge to do so. He's so supportive of Emily in each episode they're together, and takes the time to praise her when she does something right and offer supportive advice when she has trouble with something. And Emily is so eager to learn! No matter how intimidating the dish, she still tries her hardest and learns from her experience! It's such a joy to watch these two together!!!

Wish I remembered the episode, but she has stated that she's really more of a level 2 when she WANTS to be, she just rarely wants to be. The recipes she shows us are her "It's tuesday after work" recipes.

Both did a superb job, I love how Saúl reused the ingredients and Emily did marvelous in both going way out of her comfort zone and achieving a runny egg.

this was such a good episode! Emily is endearingly charming as always, and Saúl (my first time seeing him, I'm a relatively new watcher) is one of my new favourites! They both hit it off really well, and both dishes looked amazing, and Saúl's sauce choice to make the Italian/Mexican flag was genius! Hope to see more of these two together!
Saul seemed a bit shy in his first appearance and quickly became one of my faves, it’s always such a treat when he’s on!
Saúl is my second favorite chef from Epicurious. I really love Frank, he has his own channel Proto Cooks. But Saúl is fun to watch too. He's the same on his TH-cam channel as well. What we see on Epicurious is who he really is

I love how normally the pro chef is ok with the cheap ingredients and is seeing where they can be creative, but Saul is too caught up from his lost truffle
I mean, compared to the rest of ingredients, the truffle costs a damn eye, it would hurt anyone seeing it gone like that.

I'm just waiting for someone to eventually guess the cost of the Pro Chef's ingredients as "way too much".
First episode: "It's a few hundred dollars... that I don't have."
Looking at the price list, some of it seems a bit... inflated. I can get some of those same organic ingredients at my local grocer and they don't cost quite as much. That's not to say that I can go pick up a summer truffle, but the rest seems over by 15-20%. Then again, I suspect that this is filmed in New York where everything is cost prohibitive so maybe the price list really does match.
