    Should have cleaned and lubed shims & slide pins as well, this is not a very good example and may leave people with uneven wear or other failures from lack of lube.

    I only recently came across the rotors with a screw holding them (2000 Jetta). Fortunately, I had just bought a DeWalt 20V 1/4" Square Impact Driver and found it the easiest and fastest way to loosen and tighten the screw that holds the rotor on for assembly.

    My fishing partner. Who 80 year old and life time Mechanic. Has told me to use the break fluid bleeder if possible. When compressing piston. Stops any crap in the fluid being pushed back into reservoir.

      Yes that a way to do it as well. normally i use a old pad when pressing the cylinder in but i didnt have a large enough adjustable at the time so i was just as careful as i could be.

    1. You should always lubricate all MTM (metal to metal) surfaces I.e. the hub the back of the pads the pad ears caliper piston to help with chatter and any brake noise as well as lubricate the slides with high temp grease 2. You need to use brake clean on the rotors and a terry cloth to remove the rust inhibitor from the rotor or you will ruin your pads 3. Always always always replace all hardware rubber boots metal clips period end of story at the very least take the clips out hit them with a wire brush and the caliper bracket where the hardware sits to help prevent any binding.... you also should take a wire brush to the hub surfaces to help prevent any lateral runout causing irregular wear of the brake pads i should know i went to college for auto tech and worked as a tech for some years 4. If you aren’t gonna do the job correctly don’t post videos so other people half ass fix their brakes....

    What happened if you scar the brake pistons ?

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you scar the pistons on the outside not much would change but if you hit the rubber seal it could leak brake fluid

    If no one else said: Place an old brake pad against the piston and use a C clamp from back side to push the piston. This absolutely will not damage the piston. A very common trick. I would not use Channel Locks as on the video.

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i only used them because the C clamp i had was too small but if your careful the cylinder and seals will be fine.

  • @rikkufinalfantasyx293
    @rikkufinalfantasyx293 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should replace brake pads and rotors at the same time, clean the rotors with brake cleaner, so they last longer than 40k you should have a warranty on them, as well replace with hardware kit make sure you use a break caliper tool kit instead of a wrench you can damage the caliper by using channel
    Locks. My 2015 Chevy sonic has 47k and never had to replace the brake pads or
    rotors! It’s called brake pad grease so the position of the piston doesn’t squeal, you should clean everything before you put it on. 😖

    The torx bolt doesn't need to be installed with the new rotor the five lug nuts will hold the rotor and wheel in place

    Your rotor wore down so fast because it's on the wrong side of the car.

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  ปีที่แล้ว

      The slotted and drilled were installed prior to me owning it but they were installed correctly. The slot lines point back towards the car not forward.

    Always put new hardware on when you live in the rust belt and clean the caliper bracket but it don't lookik u do

  • @CriticalThinker08
    @CriticalThinker08 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    you have to clean the new rotors with brake clean 1st or this whole job is fail. they come oiled so they don't rust & if you don't clean it off the oil will make the pads useless

    • @RspecNick
      @RspecNick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should clean the rotors but a high percentage of people don't.

    You have to replace the nut with a new one, I keep running into issues with customers complaining of brake issues with out replacing that large bolt all Chevys are like that, I would deliver them to customers all the time.

      I delt with that on a Subaru STI a couple months ago. Had to use bolts in the drill holes to free the rotor from the hub.
